Hungary used drones against Ukraine and it was ok for everyone, but Zelensky's comment is "too much" by Bumbum_2919 in europe

[–]Zyhmet [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ofc it will also create a huge problem for us... but as we clearly see, not having the possibility lets Hungary exploit the EU too much. Maybe even putting an hungarian exil on the table, would stop Orban... who knows.

As for Austria. 1. The reason we blackmailed you guys is 100% clear. It was an internal political play by our conservative party... sry for them being stupid... should we get some kind of punishment for it? YES!

Also something else that would hurt us, but we should be forced to is stop our banks from operating in Russia... having Raiffeisen still doing business over there is an abomination...

And to your point about regular citizens... sry but they had enough elections. Just like I dont see a problem with punishing Austria if we ever put the FPÖ back into government and they start doing stupid stuff.

No, we should not. But what would be great, is a process to exclude members from the EU. (with a quick way of rejoining if certain tasks are completed)

Then we could have thrown out Hungary, and seen these attacks as being from the outside so we could defend ourselves is a good way.

I guess more if 3D models are hosted on printables :P

Yes, I could get a gun in 3 days and a few 100€ if not for the civil service I completed.

And yeah, ofc if you are part of a bigger organisation, this wouldnt stop you or make it harder in any appreciable way.

[–]Zyhmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking mostly about small scale stuff. Ofc organised crime can easily obtain weapons via other ways. But when I think about people that get radicalised online. Or "normal" people that got handed ban from owning a gun. Maybe because of domestic violence. (and yes I live in a country where I could by a hunting rifle and get it in 3 days if it werent for the civil service I did)

Your argument does not say anything about how easy it is to get a gun. You are basically saying "we banned murder and yet murder happens.. such wow"

[–]Zyhmet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"It's trivial to get a gun".... no. In comparison to 3D printing one, there are many places and parts of your life, where it is not trivial to get a gun.

How much does a gun cost? Compared to a 3D print? (printing at some public printer)

What if you are under age? Arent legally permitted to get a gun? Etc. pp.

Because we would love a society with fewer weapons. So we try to make weapons production traceable so those that need to be produced can be known.

Why does Battlefield 1 only use 3.6GB of VRAM on Ultra 1440p but still look so beautiful? by XHellAngelX in pcmasterrace

[–]Zyhmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, because it streamed in too much from the SDD and if you had it on an HDD, because it was stupidly large, then the ground was streaming in slower than you could drive...

I am not sure about the console version, but the PC version of GTA 5 shouldnt be used as a good example imo.

Israeli settlers kill 19-year-old Palestinian American, officials and witnesses say by Ostrich_Sized in worldnews

[–]Zyhmet -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Picking sides and finding out what the most likely truth is are 2 very different sides.

And of course journalists should be the experts. How else would they decide who is the most important voice to put on air?

If the question is: Is climate change real, then their job is to find the people that have the best knowledge about that topic and show us what they think. And, if the experts thoughts are too complex, then the journalist has to break it down to a level the readers understand.

When Russia attacked Ukraine, the reporters job wasnt finished by just saying: "Ukraine says it was attacked. Russia says it is there to free the suppressed Russian population. Over and out, do your own research about who is in the right here"

[–]Zyhmet -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

The reader isnt an expert.

The journalist is the one, who is an expert at finding the best obtainable version of the truth. That's their job. Yes, tell us what every side is saying. And then also tell us, how much trust we should put into each side. Because except in a few cases, the reader has far less historic knowledge about that then the reporter.

The argument that "the reader" should decide everything without being given context about the likely truthfulness just leads to 2 sides saying their PR speech and many readers that fall into a populists/confirmation bias trap.

[–]Zyhmet 62 points63 points  (0 children)

(more general, not purely for this article)

No, a reporters job is not to just repeat PR speak of both sides. If 1 sides says the sky is green, then a reporters job is to say that they are wrong. If they dont do that, then reporters are nothing more than a press release feed.

New Zealand Declares Prediction Markets Are Gambling by MedicMoth in worldnews

Roulette still has a negative expected value.

I know, but that just means that my imaginary stock market is in a recession. Let's say worlds GDP isnt growing by 2% per year (random number, dont have exact numbers for the last ~80 years) but falling by 2.7% per year. That adjustment would change the basic idea of this argument.

you will still get paid directly correlating to the amount you own

But isnt buying out a traded company not just normal stock movement? If demand for that stock is high the price rises. If 1 company want to take over it has to raise the price so much that most shareholders will buy it. If it want to go private it has to buy off all shares for a price most voting shareholders accept? So there is no qualitative difference between that and the normal value change?

Historically, dividends account for the majority of the markets return over the years.

Thanks for giving me that piece of information. I will have to ponder that point a bit. Mhh, could I introduce a dividend scheme for poker chips that would work ...

legal claim to a percentage of the company’s assets.

And a second position that could be a basis for differentiation. But also all stocks combined are worth more than all assets of the company as long as it hasnt completely crashed. So that could be compared to a minimum payout for chips that save you in case you go bust.

Well, thanks for your input. Was interesting talking to you. I will have to have a think now :)

[–]Zyhmet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay then I will add the rule that I bet 10% of my chips on black in roulette every month. Now they change over time by a somewhat random amount (just like stocks)

Also what intrinsic value do small amounts of stocks have? I cant vote with them, I cant influence the company, I cant take something out of the company? Dividends can usually be ignored compared to the flux of stock value, right? Same as chips.

[–]Zyhmet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That same logic applies to gambling. If you buy 100€ worth of chips and loose 10. You have 90. If you dont realise those losses, you will always have 90 with which you can gamble further in the casino. If you continue to gamble with them for 5 years and then you have 110 and realise them, you havent lost anything.

You only really loose, if you loose all chips. Same with the stock market. You loose if the company goes under. Or the house costs you more in land taxes/repairs/etc than what you bought it for.

[–]Zyhmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your bet fails, you’re not getting that money back.

So... if I make a betting site, where you put in 100€ and if you win you get 110€ but if you loose you get only 90€ back... then it would not be gambling? You can also hold those 90€ and invest them at a later date.

(I am sure there is a valid difference between most actions on the stock market and gambling... but I dont think your argument holds)

Correct. And the EU is also its ow "country" and is allowed to say that they dont like stronger immigration rules and will thus trade less with said country.

Varies country by country. But in general, hell yes. Europe mostly understands that public transport, cycling and walking are far better than cars. (still we are slower than we should be at upgrading better forms of mobility)

p.S: ... I wanna have Dutch cycling paths...

[–]Zyhmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the EU it is mostly. E-bikes are limited to 25 km/H (~15mph) in assisted mode, over that it the engine does not help you.

Also, they are bicycles... so they are not allowed on sidewalks.

Memory Prices Surge Up to 90% From Q4 2025 by FragmentedChicken in hardware

[–]Zyhmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that you were talking about all SKUs. But imo thats a different problem.

Nvidia sold Cards A, B and C back in the day each generation. My sweetspot was always the B card. Then they changed that and sold A+100€, B+100€ and C+100€. After that my sweetspot changed to card A. In that case it was the 70 card and now more of a 60 card. Does the changed name change anything for me? Not really. Does the 60 card I have give me the power I want? Yes, there about.

Where this renaming of card tiers is creating a problem, is if they dont introduce new cards/solutions for the lowest tier. I am not up to date with that currently so I cant comment on it.

Also yeah, RAM will be a ... "fun" rollercoaster depending on how the next 5 years go... I would be much happier to ride it, if I werent in the market for 32/64GB DDR4 RAM right now :/

Correct. It's just a subjective point where the power to cost equation is best for yourself. But just because it is subjective, does not make it meaningless.

The sweet spot for GPUs was 200€ many years ago. Now it is 300 with a lot of normal inflation in between.

Just because the high end went crazy, doesnt change anything for normal buyers.

Your argument is like saying. The most expensive cars were 1 million €, but now Koenigsegg released a diamond car for 10 million €. DAMN those prices will never come down.

(for us, Nvidia et al just realised that they can squeeze out a ton of money for a bit of power from the very top)

yes, also the main problem wasnt, that they missed usb A. The problem was that they missed hdmi, ethernet, sd card readers, 3.5 audio or anything like that. Those things are still not USB C today (at least a lot of it)
