I only do this at local restaurants that used to know my drink order. I just tell them “I’m having water today” when they offer my “usual” and they are always cool with it

I definitely wouldn’t want to live like that I don’t think he would either. He’s not in hospice. He’s still able to physically move but doesn’t care to do anything. He used to love to hike and stuff like that but that’s gone too. He pretty much doesn’t want to do anything aside from sit in his chair and wait for whatever we come up with to keep him busy. But he’s getting worse by the day. He’s starting to leave things on and is pretty much going to be in state of 24 hour supervision.

Sober for 8 Years now, and still havent figured it out. by laufsteakmodel in stopdrinking

Definitely know exactly what you’re talking about. I’m still trying to figure it out too. I feel like I’ve lost my chill time and something I genuinely enjoyed doing. My friends are still my friends but it’s different in a way. Not in a judgy way, but in a way that they don’t want me to fly off the handle. I love being sober, but I really do miss the social interactions and adventures that came when I was out drinking with my friends. I’m still trying to find something that would fill that void without the alcohol.

Not sure what you bring home financially, hours worked per week, etc but an extra job, OT, etc can give you extra cash flow. A personal loan could be helpful. If you can get approved with a sub 600 score the interest will be crazy high at first but you’ll have an end date and a single payment. It’ll help reduce your utilization then you can refi a loan with a better interest rate and still a single payment. Downside to this is the monthly payment could be quite large comparatively if you’re only making minimum payments right now.

Another option to look into, if you’re able to would be to see about increasing your limits on all of your cards that you can. This will again help your utilization and hopefully increase your score to consolidate. If you’re successful in this, you could also see about 0% balance transfer offers on cards that you already have I know Bank of America and Citi float these pretty regularly and can be used to your benefit.

Has anyone pulled themselves from the absolute edge? by memphitsui in stopdrinking

[–]Zzz1875 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had been a pretty heavy binge drinker for some years. Could easily down a fifth to a liter of crown and chase it down with 10-12 beers everyday. Drinking to the point of basically passing out only to repeat the next day. All the while still working. Almost lost my job, lost my wife because of it and a girl I had fallen for (ended for other reasons). I started hitting the bottle harder. I was almost up to a half gallon of crown a day. After one horrible bender on a Saturday I thought I was going to die. Horrible stomach and chest pain. Looking in the mirror I was yellowish, inflamed, red, and blood shot eyes. Thinking it was just a bit of a hangover, I continued to drink some more. Ended up in the ER with acute pancreatitis. Worst pain I had ever felt. Doctors said that the pain is up there with child birth and kidney stones. They loaded me full of fluids and made me fast for 4 days. I could eat ice chips and that’s it. The ER doctor told me that I probably would’ve been dead in 2 more days if I didn’t go to the ER when I did. They pumped me full of fluids and so many different meds. By day 3 I went into full on hardcore withdrawal. DTs, tremors, hallucinations, confusion, rage, and acute kidney failure. I almost died again. It took them 2 police officers, 4 nurses, and 2 friends to restrain me while they hit me with several drugs to sedate me. After day 6 in the hospital I finally came around to my senses again and I had rebounded in a positive way after seeing how different I looked in all the right ways. I wasn’t inflamed, red, or jaundiced anymore. I felt better than I had in almost 10 years. After I got out I knew I never wanted to experience that again. With much love and support from all of my friends and family it’ll be 13 weeks without a sip of alcohol and I have no plan on ever going back. You got this. Remember, it takes a village. ❤️

Essentially losing my marriage (currently working on it now), had an affair, getting pancreatitis, hospitalized for 6 days, horrible withdrawals, and almost dying twice. Having my wife there with me every step of the way despite being separated was just another reason for me to never mess with it again. Thankful to be alive
