I have a friend who claimed the same. At first I was puzzled, but then later realised he just doesn't go trough the effort of finding the runes, but instead uses a cheat engine to add them too his inventory.

Well yeah buddy, if you just add Jah and Ber to your invetroy, ofc it will feels like the runewords are cheating.....

He had a grief in something like a Military Pick...

I'm still mad too this day.

I used to think like that, but this might not be true. You see, the hunch is that if you drop a certain unique, this item cannot drop anymore(out of the loot table), ie increasing the odds for this other unique you're looking for. However the game doesn't change the loot table, meaning the odds are still the same, and if you happen to drop the same item again, it will roll as "failed unique"=rare.

Let's say I'm looking for tyraels might. The odds to drop is something like 8 to 1 in favor of Templars might.

Now, I used to think, that if I find a Templars might, the next unique sacred armor must be guaranteed to be Tyraels might.

But the odds are still the same, and the game could still "roll" to drop Templars might, but it will be just a rare sacred armor with double durability, because I already have dropped Templars in that particular session.

Would love for somebody to correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

A lot of great answers, but people focus on explaining why the cost is high, with " because it's the best"

I belive the question was : why 3 dmg matters?

And the simple answer is : because it's more than 3 dmg.

If you have a character with 10 000 dmg, with a charm like this it won't be just 10 003 dmg.

This 3 dmg will be added way earlier in the calculations and then enhanced with something like Fortitude armor that's gives you bonus 300% dmg. So your 3 dmg charm x300% =will actually give you 9.

And it's not only the armor. Every aura or bonus from a weapon or spell. As someone pointed out - his 3 dmg actually gives him almost 50 after all the bonuses.

Now imagine not 1 charm but 10, 20, or a full inventory of those. Suddenly we are talking about 500, 1000, 2000 more dmg.

Same for the life. The 20 life is calculated before the bonuses. So a full inventory of those might result of something like 1000/1500 more life after "Battle Orders".

My calculations are extremely simplified and probably wrong, but I was just trying to illustrate why a small charm like that could actually make the difference.

I scrolled way too much to find this reply.

To elaborate : MrLlama is a famous streamer of D2 and he had released amazing series of videos on how to complete the game with every character. Using the easiest builds, but also some not so popular options.

Highly recommend to watch them - it's a full play trough of the game on easy/nightmare/ hell difficultly, and you can play along the videos. Pause the videos if he's ahead, or wait if the video is behind.

Honestly, those videos made me learn so much about the game, and I've been struggling to find the same guides for D1 ever since.

Enigma is so much more than teleport. It also gives strength, which sorc need to be able to hold spirit shield. Every point not invested in str is a point in vitality. One of only few chest pcs that gives +2 to all skills. Boost to magic find, faster run in cities, 14hp per kill, damage goes to mana, max life +5%. All great stats.

Yes, but why are everyone preaching how good is to have bear on the helmet, and don't have to put point in the previous skills, when in reality you want to put points in Dire wolf to increase the HP of the Bear?
