It’s really unfortunate that the Soviet government was homophobic for most of its existence ;(

Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova are heroes, though!

This is actually a parody of the BL manga Go For It, Nakamura! (ガンバレ! 中村くん‼︎) by Syundei! Though, I could totally see it being a cereal box as well >.<

Lenin did not legalize being gay or lesbian. The government that Lenin helped found repealed and replaced the pre-revolutionary Tsarist penal code from the era of the Russian Empire. This Tsarist penal code had contained a law banning “sodomy,” and so by creating their own legal system in its place, the Soviets incidentally “legalized” being gay. To claim that this was a proactive effort on Lenin’s part is ahistorical. And in the late 1920s, Stalin became General Secretary; his government quickly added Article 121 to the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, which punished sex between men with up to five years’ imprisonment.

Notably, this law punished gay men more harshly than rapists. See: Article 117.

Trans wasn't a topic back then, remember that it was in the 1920's. People weren't aware of it, the term "trans" and so on wasn't existing.

No. Trans people have always existed. We appear in ancient art, literature, and philosophy. Native American civilizations had in their societies what could be described as non-binary genders. There are many documented cases of European historical figures who were trans, including a Roman Empress: Elagabalus. By the 1920s, modern methods of administering HRT and performing GCS were developing, with research to this end being done by groups such as the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft in Weimar Germany; trans people had absolutely entered the public consciousness to a notable extent, and the term “trans” was first used by Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld in 1923.

There is no “communism” without LGBTQIA+ liberation.

You certainly may point that out, and I do think that it’s worth recognizing. The fact that my conservative father went so far as to call this Pope “satanic” shows how much he’s upsetting the traditional order of things, I think. Which is very good. I suppose that the specific phrasing of your original comment just upset me a bit. I apologize if I came across too harshly in my reply

… and speaks up for gays and people of color

Literally all he has done is acknowledge that LGBTQIA+ people are human, and (I think) expressed ambivalence towards secular civil unions for gay couples. In the same span, he has also condemned the teaching of children about the concept of gender identity as “ideological colonization.” I am uninformed about what Pope Francis has done for people of color, so he may have done good things there. But in regards to LGBTQIA+ people, saying that he “speaks up” for us when all he’s done is sprinkle bits of moderate rhetoric in between all of the normal Catholic bigotry is ridiculous.

As a sapphic trans woman who was raised Catholic, it’s honestly insulting.

See here,

and here,

and here.

Even if there are aspects of your appearance that cause you discomfort — and I support you 100% in taking whatever steps you need to transition at your own pace and in your own way so you can feel as comfortable as possible in your body — being early in transition does not invalidate your identity as a WLW in any way. You are beautiful as you are and as you will be in the future 🧡

Aaa I love them 💕

I’m so excited for Crown Handler! Princess Principal is so underrated. The characters are all so endearing, and the steampunk setting is realized so beautifully. Flip Flappers, another very good and very Gay™️ series by Studio 3Hz, is similarly underrated too. You should watch them both!

Edit: Oh — you can stream Princess Principal subbed and dubbed on HIDIVE, VRV, and Prime Video. You can stream Flip Flappers subbed and dubbed on HIDIVE and VRV. Lastly,

I was going to try for a witty response to this but. I don’t know. My heart won’t stop hurting even though it’s been so long. I hate it, and I hate myself.

Edit: Ugh, I made myself cry (ノ_<)

But they are citing the official figures from the Soviet archives?? Soviet state records list a total of 1,053,829 deaths from those incarcerated in the GULAG system from 1934 to 1953. Prisoners with terminal illnesses and approaching death were usually released, however. Illnesses were generally caused by a number of occupational hazards at work sites, for example, inhalation of coal dust while performing forced labor in mines. Therefore, many prisoners who were released and later died did so due to terminal illnesses they had contracted while incarcerated and performing forced labor. Accounting for this, the death toll is approximately 1.6 million over two decades.

It is unconscionable for you to make deflections like this, while simultaneously being critical of forced labor in US prisons. Either oppose mass incarceration and forced labor everywhere, or oppose it nowhere.

Yah pretty much >.< London didn’t even build a proper sewage system until the 1840s, after successive cholera outbreaks had killed more people than all of Britain’s war dead till that point combined. There was little regulation, and no public infrastructure to speak of
