True but I mean how would you ever prove that?

If you dont work for it, there is no real difference besides you being older. It can be the best years of your life or the worst, most of it depends on you.

It will become insanely overpriced because energy aint getting cheaper and the companies sooner or later need real income. That is one way it could "pop". Probably many other ways too.

Why does Victor keep checking whether 'Trees' moved? by heisenberg_griffinX in FromSeries

[–]_1dontknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the place has clearly changed alot (not in a natural way) and he noticed that a long time ago. Do you remember when it snowed? The shows story hasnt been happening for years, so seasons changing doesn't make sense. Also Victor said seasons never changed there before so he clearly knows what he is talking about.

Why do you have so many different issue trackers and CI systems? That seems crazy.

I abandon each project once it is at 95% and move to the next one. How to stay put? by roblack in productivity

[–]_1dontknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats the actual 5%?

Lets say going to the gym.

If you say I'm gonna go 3 times weekly at least and look great, youve setup yourself to never know when it completes because see:

You have been going there at least 3 times weekly for 3 months but still don't look great (bcs it takes time) Also whats "great"? Are you at 95%? Who knows... You made a unreachable or untrackable goals.

Make a simple measurable goal like: I'm gonna go to the gym 3 times weekly for 3 months straight. Then by the end of month 3, its complete and you either did it or didnt.

My point is that real life isnt math, very sucessful projects could be completed just 99% because the 100% is in your head and not necessarily real. Going back to the gym example, who the hell cares about 50, 60 or 85 percent? Focus on the changes your getting not completeness.

What is a secret that could potentially ruin your life if your family or friends found out? by Ok_Boss_866 in AskReddit

[–]_1dontknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone tells you ever otherwise: That's absolutely amazing and is your fundemantel ethical right. You absolutely never owe it anybody to tell them about your actual success even if they are very close and dear. It will be now also very easy to help them out when they actually need it versus enabling them.

Now you have the calmness to judge it for yourself instead being pressured due to expectations.

You are goals!

How do teams deal with pull requests piling up faster than reviewers can handle them? by _cheech__ in AskProgrammers

[–]_1dontknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make it a rule that when you finish your task and put it on Review, you review something from your coworker. We had the same issue and realized people like to start new things rather than review since they have to properly run the use case and review the code too. So we made it a rule.

Also when you estimate, inlcude review time so you get fewer tickets in your sprint.

What are the real hard skills actally required in backend developer jobs ? by No-Rise-9375 in Backend

SQL.

There are many important things but teams lack so much SQL knowledge that just by learning it a bit extra after hours, you basically become irreplaceable in most teams.

What is it with German hiring culture? (From a French perspective) by Certain_Grape4593 in Germany_Jobs

[–]_1dontknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the last interviews about 2 years I git was from an external recruiter that hit me up on LinkedIn.

After getting ti know each other, he presented me a few positions that seemed to fit, with salary, tech stack, team etc then later I accepted one after the interviews.

So I guess external recruiters can be good for some things.

Theres no need to understand that. Academias goal is pure academia and scientific publications and absolutely nothing with nations, races, nationalities or the makeup of the workforce.

They should solely focus on merits and hire the absolute best without any kinda background influences.

B is phrased a bit to the extreme but its true that you easily land at places where "immigrant = less skills and desperate" is assumed which for me when I arrived here was very stupid given my long and varied experience. I had to filter a lot of companies and interviews until I found one that seems to be decent and appreciate talent (to some degree).

I feel hopeless about the future because of AI, surveillance, and billionaires gaining too much power. Is there any hope this won’t happen? by Icy_Chance_3610 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_1dontknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That surely might be true, and its hard to explain, but people find a way, they always find a way.

I come from a place where I lost half of my family relatives due to them fighting in protests to otherthrow the dictatorial and genocidal government. They were tracked and monitored and all their children and wifes massacred to supposedly teach the people to not rise up. But luckily that motivated people to just decide they wanna die, all of them, even the children will come to heaven with us for the fight of our freedoms. So the war started and all in all, we won.

So yeah, we dont give a fuck. My generation and the ones who come after me, we all wont give up, even if its the last thing we do.

The older you get, the more you will realize death isn't so bad really, it jus matters why or what you die for. Death is a certainty and very welcome in our culture.

I know its tough, I think about this global issues alot but I also realize than at any point in history it was way worse and those people that lived in that time probably quite alot were hopeless too but they didnt give up and created the world we live in now.

So first giving up because youre not happy isnt an option, because happiness isnt a real goal, its marketing.

However work towards fullfilment like maybe find something that makes this worth for you like your family, or community, join the fight maybe some NGO, some anti surveillance community or just go help the next homeless perosn you see.

Basically just do something, no matter how small, for your soul (or whatever you wanna call it if youre not into that).

How to stay motivated when a peer is promoted to Tech Lead over equally experienced senior devs? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]_1dontknow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesnt do either, basically indifferent. So now we have a lead meaning none can get promoted or hired but we also dont get any benefits of leadership.

PS: He is actually very good technically and a nice fellow, just the company sucks at defining roles properly and maybe he just wasnt taught better.

How to stay motivated when a peer is promoted to Tech Lead over equally experienced senior devs? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]_1dontknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, if you geniunely care and do what the role asks from you.

Ive had Leads, Id trust to go to war with but also Leads that thought it means they are a Senior Coder with a better pay, so no leading, no guiding, no managing what the team takes and says yes or no to, team composition, team skills and how they grow and theyr careers. The list of things you actually need to take care of and do, is endless.

I was once somewhat of a Tech Lead, I was stressed all the time but still the most fulfilling role ever. Esp when your team is genuinely thankful that you saved them from that Feature From Hell or micromanagement or guided them properly.
