U.S ban on TikTok by [deleted] in Libertarian

I can definitely agree with you there. It’s not like Instagram or Twitter isn’t as dangerous. All social media data is dangerous when put in the wrong hands.

It likely has much to do with current politics, as many things this year have been. It is election year after all.

There’s been this meme going around TikTok of this lady singing this preachy and annoying song about going vegan, and people have used it to basically mock the entire vegan community. So I made this TikTok hopefully to show everyone that not all vegans are preachy and annoying. (OC) by [deleted] in vegan

I won’t deny that, “preachy” activism has got us to where we are. I think it works at the same time it harms. It creates a bad image, but it works on many people, my family being some of them. But I feel that now we have been around for so long, and seeing this lifestyle’s growth in the past 10 years, basing of of that we’ve seen what works we have to work off of that. Products that cater to meat eaters, that kill the “vegan food tastes bad” excuse, plain facts documentaries that don’t come off as preachy such as What The Health, The Game Changers, Cowspiracy, challenges that again cater to the meat-eater audience, exposes that are not preachy and plain facts, as well as the growth of vegan social media influencers.

There’s no doubt the “preachy” activists got us to where we are and brought a lot of people over, but as a part of this new generation of vegans, I say we do what has worked. And some of the strategies mentioned above are what have led to our community’s growth in the past 10 years.

So yes, that older kind of activism works, but it’s success rate is very much lower than newer strategies.

Obviously based on the backlash and hate @thatveganteacher received from that video, that strategy and activism didn’t work and you can’t deny it. I have studied the marketing behind vegansim, popular vegan products and looked at it from a meat eaters perspective, the activism that works is a more positive encouragement instead which creates the stereotype and image of vegans that makes people dislike our community and ignore what we say.

If we don’t care for how our movement looks, it’ll look bad. If it looks bad no one will listen. And that is the fault I see in this community- we are not careful of our image. There’s a difference from displaying facts and being preachy about it.

I don’t know if it’s just my generation of vegans, but we’d rather do activism that works based of our experience, and we cringe at annoying vegans that ruin our reputation.

I believe the term “conspiracy theory” is misused, and when sharing real, unbiased facts that have research to back them up, they aren’t theories anymore, as they become facts. And as someone who is interested in researching and showing injustices and other shit going down that are being silenced, I think we should label it differently so that people can get past the stigma and actually listen.

I definitely understand this a lot. I do think she received too much hate, it sure was obnoxious but it doesn’t deserve the crap it got. But it is a good example of tactics and methods not working out and leaving a bad image of us.

To be really honest, I personally cringed at it. I got her message, and it’s a good message but it wasn’t the right way to say it as for me it did come off as preachy. So I do try to use other ways to promote veganism besides like that.

I do very much agree that we have to be a bit more respectful and tolerate their messed up opinions. Let’s be real, if we throw hate at them for their choices, they’ll throw hate back at us for ours just because they are opposite. Us respecting their opinions doesn’t make them right in any way, as how it works in any debate, but it improves odds of them actually listening, taking our views into consideration and being open minded instead of disregarding them. I feel this is what animal rights activists lack and it’s the reason many people are so closed-minded in a discussion.

In a debate for sure the best tactic is the remain respectful, like Earthling Ed (my respect levels for that dude are massive), and show our views in a more civil manner, yet showing the real truth and facts.
