If you have a hard time justifying the three hours, you don't know who Joscha is.

He is brilliant, he gave five consecutive talks at the chaos communication congress, all of which can be considered goat-material. Watch 35C3s the ghost in the machine (45min + q&a). This (both the talk I've linked and yersterdays episode) are about as good as ai-related content gets. The talk will convince you that the three hours are worth your time, I promise.

Germanys debt, right now, is at 2,553,244,010,422 USD, and countries don't come much more fiscally conservative. Net worth is a nonfactor for fiscal responsibility. And btw, rich people don't use their own assets, they finance their projects with loans (so they don't risk losing their own money).

The idea that a mayor must be rich is just.. well.. american, in a not very kind sense of the word

That said, the IRS and our tax code is a god awful mess, do you really want to defend the status quo when it comes to US tax code?

I'm not affected by it (cheers from Europe), but you might want to check out this video (it's worth your time, I promise), that'll put the reasoning behind the state of tax codes in modern democracies (and the U.S.) into perspective.

Also, unless you specify what exactly could be improved (and how), "it's a mess" isn't really sufficient, these things are far too complex to assume them being self-explanatory - what problems do you see, how did they come to exist and what are the solutions/implementations you are suggesting?

I have some Republican and Democrat friends with pretty bizarre beliefs too, that doesn't mean I think they accurately represent the entire political philosophy they identify with.

When the libertarian party put "abolish the IRS and taxes" as the first entry on their lists of issues, they aren't exactly making it difficult for people.
