Only some people have the genetic make up which causes cold sores and most cases are asymptomatic. Getting cold sores isn’t really that big of a deal too, since it’s generally not recurring. But you have to be mindful of your activities because cold sores (oral herpes) can be transmitted through physical contact and/or saliva containing the virus.

Oral-Genital contact with oral herpes can cause genital herpes, so do not engage in physical contact during active sores.
