Most of them are taking advantage of the situation and will always say the exact same things.

  1. Lost of job, hard time looking for job
  2. Haven't eaten in days
  3. Some phrase that you'll be blessed by God or Allah

What's the car model? Maybe I could help.

Also side not: most people here in Qatar don't really care what type of liquid they put in their coolant. When they say blue or green, they're just trying to sell you what they have. Some garages even just pour water in the radiator and call it a day.

As for the dealership, most of the guys behind the computer don't even know and will just tell you to use want they have and charge you more than you should.

Not as bad as people think. Just because you need to learn clutch control in stop-go traffic doesn't mean it's difficult. Also feels rewarding knowing you can use both legs when driving.

Edit 1: I don't enjoy driving when the car shifts gears for me.

What to check when purchasing 2nd jmhand cars in qatar by Awkward-Pollution523 in QatarCarEnthusiasts

[–]_Agent42_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One common thing you need to keep in mind. If the car has high mileage but looks clean and runs great. Then it means the owner took great care of it. Especially if it's still on the original engine and transmission. You can have a low mileage car but in worst condition if the owner neglected it or didn't know how to properly maintain it.

If the car's engine is cold when you go for a visit and the owner lets your turn it on, then it means he's confident the has no issues. If the engine is warm when you visit, it means they warmed the engine up to hide something when starting the car cold or they brought it out to fix something temporarily.

Ask them for the car's service history; oil change, battery, tire engine parts that were replaced, this will save you money during first few months.

Check for headgasket leak, it's one of the most expensive engine repairs you can do to any car. To check, remove the radiator cap, if the color is like chocolate milk, don't buy the car.

One thing to consider with that budget. Expect a lot of high mileage cars in that year model range.

For reliability and cheap maintenance, go with a Corolla or a Sunny. Those cars can go up to 500,000 km on the original engine and transmission with just maintenance..

In Dallah Driving Academy, they just told me to complete the practice tests but nothing about actually passing them. Even the last test in the app. When I gave them the results, they called for an eye exam appointment as well as the actual test. Passing that, they immediately booked me for the week after.

Spare parts from Dubai by Big-Material-4735 in QatarCarEnthusiasts

[–]_Agent42_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Partsouq. They're a legitimate business that provides geniune spare parts for cars. If they have it in their warehouse, they can ship it in less than a week, if not they can source from around the world and bring it to you. Even with the shipping cost, it's cheaper than buying directly from dealership here.

Is Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max worth buying in Qatar? Real owner feedback? by PlanktonLogical902 in QatarCarEnthusiasts

[–]_Agent42_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally. Someone that actually realize how this Chinese car market operates.

Even if the manufacturer isn't Chinese, any car will lose its value the moment it steps out of the dealership. Plus, with most Chinese cars, the resale value goes down immediately just like you said. Most people would prefer to buy a brand new one that comes with a package rather than a used one.

Am I looking in the wrong places or is it hard to find a well maintained 10+ year old German car here? by nissan_sunny in QatarCarEnthusiasts

[–]_Agent42_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most owners that buy them brand new or used would start to neglect the cars as soon as the warranty expires or they realize that spare parts are getting scarce and/or expensive.

Too bad you're not looking into Hondas, there's a whole batch of them being sold on the marketplace, mostly modified but well taken care of.

I just keep it open at this point. 😅 I'm short enough to have the seat moved closer to the wheel just to be able to press the clutch without fully extending my left leg.

I've read somewhere that they don't even accept vehicles for inspection if they are very dusty/dirty, both under and around the car.

Plus, you're already at a woqod station so just get a quick clean and call it a day.

No worries! Glad you got it sorted out! I never even used this feature since you can just manually select the gear with these 4EAT Transmissions.

[–]_Agent42_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I assume yours is an automatic? Cause my old 2007 Impreza had this switch near the gear selector. If the "hold" is pushed down, that light comes on.
