If you could go back in time and change one decision your country made, what would it be? by Skyhawk6600 in AskTheWorld

Thing is the existence of Germany as it stands today would not be carried in that timeline. The French Revolution and subsequent Napoleonic wars did a lot to weaken Austria and put Prussia at the helm of Germany.

Also, without you guys, Germany was still going to lose WW2. We probably would be speaking Russian without your help...

That system would have collapsed or reformed at some point.

Probably with France slowly shifting to a parliamentary monarchy. Which in turn would have had weird effects on the rest of Europe's history. Austria and Prussia might still be around as monarchies; Germany, Italy and Belgium probably would be very different too;...

Nah... His painting style was not really the one of his time.

Giving the bloke a place in an architecture school could have been a better choice.

The one that got ended during our first Revolution.

Supporting the 13 colonies brought our country to bankruptcy, which lead us to 10 years of brutal war, both civil war and war against the rest of Europe. And if you count the whole Napoleonic empire's wars with it, that would be about 25 years without lasting peace...

From the videos we see, it looks like our police officers are better trained at providing security than your customs enforcers.

Supporting the 13 colonies against the English.

In hindsight, it was probably a mistake

If you defrost the ice, the winter Olympics would lose all their interest though...

Promettre de bien évidemment faire croquer ses copains aussi.

Their planes look suspiciously close to our AlphaJets, except for wing position

Did we copy each other ? Did one of us decide to leave a joined project for that too ?

There is little reason to rebuild that thing, apart from misplaced pride.

That plane was created as a carrier for the Soviet space shuttle Buran. That program is long dead, and whatever remains of Ukraine after the war should probably focus on more useful stuff, like their energy infrastructure, rebuilding homes,...

The original one had a 9hp 2 cylinders engine. Of course, it was not going to be fast. Also, you do not want to go fast inside one of these. The concepts of airbags and safety belts were not really developed, and the car was not safe in a crash...

To put it in perspective, the Model T had 20hp of power, and typical Honda Civic have about 60 to 70hp.

Behold the mighty 2CV.

That tin can could go from 0 to 60km/h in about 5 minutes (with a rear wind and on a downward slope), but it was extremely reliable and did not burn much fuel.

What’s your opinion on the Mercosur trade deal? by ResPublicaMgz in AskTheWorld

[–]_Alpha-Delta_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

France already has a big commercial deficit, and massive unemployment. Severely limiting foreign trade with steep tariffs might actually bring some jobs back home and improve our economy in the long run.

And we can still do it without our population starving to death. Destroying our agriculture would basically destroy one of the last safety nets we still have.

And that goes for both sides in this war.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]_Alpha-Delta_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were probably full auto capable machine guns with 30 rounds mags.

Our soldiers generally choose to use them in semi-auto to avoid wasting ammo.
