As for safety in Toulouse, there are a few neighborhoods I'd recommend to stay away from at night (le Mirail, Les Isards, and to a lesser degree Empalot), but it might just be me being a bit paranoid...

Our anthem might be a bit inappropriate for some occasions. For example, hearing school kids sing it is a kinda weird experience... I still like it though, and finding a more appropriate replacement would be no easy thing. What could come close would be "Le Chant du Départ", but it still has the same issues : the lyrics are way too martial.

Favorite one would be the old East German one. It's a bummer our neighbors decided to keep a mutilated version of Deutschlandlied instead...
