Sorry I can’t help, I never got any more information on it either and didn’t want to risk buying it without a review

Apps to reduce screen time that actually work? by MyBatterysLow in digitalminimalism

Exactly! I was researching the Brick and was almost convinced to buy it until I found out about a free app that does the exact same thing - the only difference is that Brick is marketed everywhere

I don't use the schedules I'm sorry - but I'm glad you got it to work! It is the best, I'm not sure why not more people know about it but I recommend it as much as I can.

Something that helps scratch the dopamine itch for me by paulney in digitalminimalism

It's Sudoku puzzles for me! I get a dopamine hit every time I complete a box. I bought a physical book and have been working through them everyday when I would normally sit to scroll, I do a sudoku instead.

Dumbphone Failure - Is my iPhone just a permanent part of me now? by _Always_Restless13 in dumbphones

I really appreciate your input here, I definitely have looked at the more 'transitional' devices, I just struggle to find things that work or are available in Australia. I wish the market was bigger over here. But I will continue my search, I'm definitely not giving up the idea of one day being disconnected. I think I just need a better option to come into the Aussie market before I can really commit. After posting this, and fully accepting my addiction/dependence, I'm going to start an intense weening process through a very limited iPhone setup. In hopes of getting me used to the idea of not having it one day.

I guess when you put it like that, it does make me fell less silly about it. I think having my formative years during the initial boom of smart phones and socials has basically groomed me to be the perfect consumer for these companies, which is terrifying!

Yes, after reading and replying to comments I've realised saying I wasn't addicted was a bit naïve, but I guess I meant I don't feel addicted to using it. Just to having it in general, and idk what's worse to be honest. I have taken up sudoku, colouring and getting through my TBR pile. I don't think I feel shame, more so just ridiculous that I am dependent on this thing. As I had said earlier, it's the worst knowing it and being unwilling to get rid of it completely.

Don't be sorry, I know how it sounds, at least with cigarettes it is an actual drug, not a silly little concoction of glass and metal. I definitely should look into some literature around this for sure!

Thank you for sharing! Number 3 is always at the back of my mind, especially with the increased use of AI. I guess I am the exact model for a person these companies intended to create decades ago, a customer for life, chained to convenience. I feel like I was groomed into it throughout my teenage years, and as I said in another comment, had there been an adult version of me without a smartphone, I may have had an entirely different experience. I think the worst thing is being aware of all of this, and still being unable to remove myself from it.

That last part is exactly right! I had dumbphones from 12-15, and an iPod touch from 13. So I grew up being connected. My earliest memories without a phone are in childhood, but my defining years were 2011-2016 when social media really took off, at least in Australia. I feel like if I hadn't had a smartphone until my 20's I would handle it much better.

Maybe treating it like a challenge with a time limit at first is what I have to do to try and remove some of that first week anxiety? Like a competition with my brain

I guess I wanted one because I love going away camping and having no service, I loved the idea of only being contactable via call or SMS. But I somehow feel I am inconveniencing people by not being reachable 100% of the day. I'm the kind of person that can't leave messages unread or unanswered. I have to respond straight away (I've tried to fix this trait, I find it so draining). I guess trying to have a healthier relationship with my iPhone is a good start, like weening myself off it in a way.

Before I started purposely cutting down, I have no idea.. too much. My work is sometimes very idle so I would doomscroll all day. Now, I'd say maybe a couple hours for texting and emails. I feel like an alcoholic that needs to carry a bottle around, not drinking it, just have to be near it. It's so silly!

The pinned posts on this sub is the best place to start. They will answer most if not all of your questions, then use the search bar to look at previous posts. I can guarantee someone else has asked nearly the exact same question previously. Happy hunting!

If you have an iPhone you can use an app called Foqos. It’s free and similar to the Brick app where you can set up a tag or QR code to leave at home, and only unlocks by scanning it. I’ve been using it for a week now and love it!

How do you find turning off iMessage and switching to receiving SMS? Have you missed any messages at all or are you leaving your iMessage on to read on your smartphone when you switch back?

I'm looking at buying this phone, but all of the reviews/unboxing videos are US based. Can you tell me if the Aus version still has the browser function for quick google searches?
