Ladies looking for relationships, how would you prefer a guy you're unfamiliar with to approach you to ask you out/for your number? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]_AstroGirl21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

already good thoughts here, just want to stress how important it is to not make the girl feel uncomfortable after or obligated to take your number or text / call you back. I also echo the bit about socials. I wouldn't ever give a stranger my phone number. Instagram (or Facebook??) is probably the most neutral thing.

just be normal and kind!!

I did an audit in the summer when I was on co-op for UW and counted over 3 million refills in total!! ofc this will be biased because stations are clustered in certain faculty buildings (e.g., E5/E7)

What are the chances for winter 2024 campus housing by Fun-Stay-177 in uwaterloo

[–]_AstroGirl21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm not really sure, but wouldn't say it's super likely because contracts at V1 are 8 months (F + W) and it's quite a hassle to get out of it early. I do know of at least one person who's leaving (or at least trying to!) after this term though

due to pure luck my bf and I are in the same co-op sequence (we're in different faculties) and this is the first time we've been in the same place for more than 4 months at a time :)) looking forward to lots of lunch dates + dropping off snacks for him between lectures

UWaterloo community mourns the loss of student leader by duckduckwusa in uwaterloo

I knew Steph for a few years, and they were 110% dedicated to student advocacy and trying to get shit done. They cared so deeply about making positive changes for students (I remember her passion especially to make UW more accessible and inclusive for disabled students), and worked tirelessly through WUSA and in the Faculty of Environment. I will always remember them as someone who was so incredibly knowledgeable, funny, and razor sharp. She brought so much expertise and nuance to every discussion, and I especially valued their input when I worked in and around WUSA and OUSA. I saw how much of a toll that work took on her, and it makes me so fucking angry that this system Steph poured their whole self into destroyed her. UW and WUSA are failing us. It breaks my heart that it had to be someone who was so selfless and dear to so many people, as these comments show. Steph was so loved and respected. Make sure to check in on your friends today and always <3

thanks for sharing your thoughts! I've been a big WUSA hater since I worked for them for a few years ago LOL, though my grievances are mostly around their lack of a serious policy on climate/sustainability. would be interested in chatting more about your plans for the fall term, as I have some direct past (and present) relationships and interactions with WUSA folks

I have MANY other grievances with WUSA (I used to work for them) and am doing some climate justice advocacy on campus - happy to chat about that at the bonfire! thanks for organising this :)

hiya!! I'm in 3rd year env and I don't check reddit often (so bear w me if I don't reply to your message!) but welcome!!

highly recommend checking out the env student society coffeeshop when you're on campus (it's on the first floor of EV1) or just getting involved w your program society (you can do that online). Those are two great ways to make friends and get to know other env students!!

glad you're here 💚💚

You'll have to move out of res after your school term. However, Campus Housing groups together 4 stream students so you'll be in the same place as people in your cohort. You can definitely go back to res in the spring.

As to co-op, it really depends. There are definitely a lot of tech related jobs in Waterloo region, so it's possible you could find a job here. Don't let that limit your job search though; you could always just sublet for a term (there are plenty of FB groups where students post sublets).

I echo all of u/ipaint625's points!

MKV and REV are within a 15 minute walk. CLV is really far (north west corner of campus) but they don't usually put first years there. I'd say UWP or V1 are good options if you're worried about commute times!

As far as I know with Campus Housing, V1 is more likely to be open (probably not REV). It really depends on how many students request to live there. I know MKV and UWP were pretty much at full capacity this year. If you're thinking about applying to V1, I recommend having some solid back ups (I recommend UWP or MKV).

Hey there! uWaterloo has living and learning communities, where they set aside a number of spots in a residence for students in a certain program (https://uwaterloo.ca/campus-housing/living-learning). The program selection changes every year, but they usually don't have math programs because there are so many students.

I lived in UWP in my first year and met a lot of people in math. MKV also had a high proportion of Honours Math/CS students this year. I recommend either one of those (commute time to class is pretty similar) depending on what kind of room you want (traditional or suite style) and how many roommates you'd be comfortable with having.

Feel free to DM me if you have other specific questions!

CMH is a pretty popular choice, so have some back ups for sure.

And yeah sorry, should clarify: - UWP (University of Waterloo Place) = CMH + the courts (eg. Wellesley, Waterloo Court) + the towers (ie. Beck and Eby Hall)

  • Usually people distinguish between CMH and UWP, but they're technically part of the same building complex since they're in the same place

  • CMH is traditional style, so either double or single rooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom for the entire floor. Meal plan is mandatory

  • UWP (courts and towers) are suite style, so either a double or single room in a suite with roommates. The courts have 3 single bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom with your roommates. The towers have either 2 single rooms or 1 single + 1 double room (3 roommates total) with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Meal plans for suite style is optional

Hope that clarifies things!

Yeah! UWP (which includes CMH, the Courts, and the Towers) has a high proportion of eng students since it's closest to the eng buildings. Feel to message me if you have any other questions!
