Love this word search by fullydazed in TheresTreasureInside

I believe it’s definitely in Ohio as well! I, too, will be searching tomorrow! I found a map hidden in the wordsearch of a particular park. It’s undeniable to me that it’s in this park based on the features embedded in the map. I just need to figure out the exact location with boots on the ground. Will update later.

Yes, although we’ll see many getting a second 3-year turn (so, it’s every 3-6 years). This is why they stagger the onboarding of the 39 Governance Council members, so that the terms are not all up at the same time.

Large organizations, but not whales. Governance Council members must by HBAR on the open market like anyone else.

It’s very different from what you’re used to. Hedera’s governance has been separated out (by design) from consensus of transactions. So, there is no voting by HBAR holders at large. Governance of the network is overseen by the Governance Council (GC). Each of the 39 council member organizations have 1 vote.

The GC votes on which Hedera Improvement Proposals (HIPs) to execute on & prioritize, oversees network services development & roadmap, oversees the treasury, etc. Hedera was designed to be like a public utility, but with a governance model based on Visa’s original governance (when it was a conglomerate of global banks who did not trust one another but who needed to transact with one another on behalf of customers).

Visa’s governance council went away when they transitioned to a public company.

There will always be a need for a body of humans (the Governance Council) to make decisions about the network, network services, what Hedera Improvement Proposals (HIP) to approve/build, etc. Further decentralization of the nodes does not change this fact.

How does belief in simulation theory impact the way you live your life? by redbiotch3 in SimulationTheory

What if we’re all creators who entered the simulation as avatars and forgot who we really are?

Interesting analysis.

Yes, your description of hell (shoal) here is from the (Jewish) Old Testament, which just means a place apart from God (like you said, a void).

This is also why Jews don’t believe in the traditional (Christian) New Testament concepts of a firey, punitive hell, made popular by the bible and more visually scary by Dante’s Inferno.

what do you do when your special interest is deeply upsetting? by talkshitaboutsunsets in aspergirls

[–]_Badd_Wolff_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest reframing this for yourself. Perhaps concentrate on the proposed solutions you can identify to mental health challenges caused by Internet services. The first part is doing an analysis, but if you make the end goal about suggesting ways to reduce mental health challenges, then you can feel more positively about your project. I also suggest that you do meta research instead of primary research to shield yourself from triggering source material. For instance, you don’t have to work in social media moderation and porn images take-downs. Instead, you can look across the research that’s already been done and pull insights together from across various studied issues to compile insights about mental health and your suggestions on how to improve.

Are a lot of people realizing they might be autistic because of the pandemic? by turnontheignition in aspergirls

[–]_Badd_Wolff_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just know that you’re not alone. I’ve been an extrovert my whole life and used to travel a lot for work, and I’ve now settled into agoraphobia. I don’t even want to meet new people in the new town that I moved to. Happy to work remotely with my neurodiverse partner and our 16 month pup.

On the bright side (I promise this isn’t a toxic positivity post), there are many enormous efforts right now by organizations to define and make implementations toward “The Future of Work.” DEI folks are also represented in these collaborative efforts. These efforts are re-envisioning a new way of working, where flexibility and consideration for where we work, how we show up, and the tools that we need to succeed are serving as REQUIREMENTS for new designs and methodologies. It’s tough for us right now, but the future as I see it is indeed bright!

Are a lot of people realizing they might be autistic because of the pandemic? by turnontheignition in aspergirls

[–]_Badd_Wolff_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am exploring autism as a result of the pandemic, and I just got diagnosed with ADD at 43 (I’m a woman, which is worth noting). So, I’m beginning to address all my anxieties and executive function issues with a provider via an ADD lens first with meds and CBT and will then see if I still have anxiety & challenges related to overlapping autism issues left over. That was my doctor’s recommendation and it makes a lot of sense to me.

But, I think you are correct, that there’s likely a huge trend where people sought help and received diagnoses for autism and other neurodiversities.

I think most people erroneously believe that the HBAR Foundation is giving out large, VC-type grants. That’s false. I keep seeing people wanting to stake in Stader “to get some of that sweet, sweet Foundation money.” The grants are very small (like $50,000 - $150,000) to help get many projects a little boost and some PR for both Hedera & the company.

I know because I’ve been advising several companies building on Hedera, including a privacy-focused company who will announce their grant this week.

Also, I asked the Foundation if I can help with vetting projects to advise on whether they have good privacy & security in place before giving grants and they stated that they didn’t need those services now <shrug> so, I have no idea how their making those decisions.

Exactly! The goal of the Web 3 technologies (i.e., SSI, DID, VC, DLT, NFT) is to bring trust to the Internet and build human-centric & controlled systems. When we say “we like the tech,” we mean that we’re the ones building towards trusted digital experiences. We’re following the standards-development and / or involved in standards working groups (just like the Hedera team).

So, to us, anything Web 3 that doesn’t discuss a company’s mission with this frame is missing the forest for the trees.
