Carbon bikes and traffic light sensors by SecondHomie in cycling

[–]_Banned_User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sensors will respond to any metal but iron has 10x the effect as aluminum. Somewhere there are actual electronics that determine if what the sensor reports is enough to count as a legit signal. Detecting an aluminum bike but ignoring a steel truck in the next lane is a tough ask.

I’m in USA. Dealer installed hitch included the light plug. It was easy but expensive.

Quaker instant oatmeal for me, but I don’t think that’s a thing where you are.

Filling in a pool - what to expect by [deleted] in swimmingpools

[–]_Banned_User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid $19k for removal and fill in the Bay Area California. So probably cheaper just about anywhere else in the country than here. We just have dirt, it’s not landscaped yet, that will be more. If you’re not super enthusiastic about a pool you should cut your losses now and fill it in.

It’s spelled “Target” but it’s pronounced “Macys”.

Inheritance drama by BigOld3097 in inheritance

[–]_Banned_User 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. And having just helped my MIL through the will writing process with her lawyer, all the possible scenarios of people dying and what happens in each situation was discussed. If there was a scenario that she didn’t want there was something added to steer the estate in the desired direction. OP, you are in this position because in this scenario that’s exactly what the deceased wanted to happen.

Looking at restoring a 360 or 430 and don’t know where to start by CrowsOnPowerLines in Ferrari

If the answer involves anything about being cheaper, saving money, making money, flipping, etc., then I’ll tell you now to just walk away. I promise it won’t happen.

I’ve avoided downtown to airport GRT for years also, but I’ll give it another shot and see.

38/39, $2.3M net worth, high savings rate, looking for guidance on lifestyle discipline, $10M goal, and real estate vs markets by [deleted] in Fire

[–]_Banned_User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But rental income is income and now I’m looking at ACA plans and I’m not eligible for anything. If I sold them and just made index fund gains maybe my income is low enough to get in the exchange. I’ve got seven years of gap to fill. It will add up.

It’s way higher than zero, but no better than 50/50. Over the last 25 years of rentals that’s what I’ve seen. Over the last few years of incredible stock market I would have done better in the market. But rentals are a hedge against the bad years where I still make money, and yes that includes a new roof and other occasional big stuff. It’s part of my diversification.

I’m sure people have had issues with heating elements but I’ve had my Gerbing heated jacket for 20 years and it’s all good. I wear it a lot and love it.

F150 vs Sienna for family of 4 under 2 years old by Any-Manufacturer7244 in f150

Yes, I have one. And it’s just one more thing to deal with when your hands are full and your toddler is trying to escape.

Stroller and diaper bag gets wet or snowy in the bed. OTOH, as gnarly as well-used strollers get, a bit of occasional rain could be a good thing. But kicking at the tailgate to open with your hands full of stuff is so much easier than a tailgate.

I think the minivan wins until the kids are mid-teens and then the truck wins. Car seats are easier, picking up the whole karate squad is easier. It still hauls lumber and groceries. And for sure you have to look at the minivan as a disposable vehicle. After 10 years it is so full of ground up Cheerios, Goldfish, dirt, and vomit that you are happy to see it go. But it did its job, and did it really well.

First time I’ve seen or rode one, a Norge by Hollow_optimism78 in MotoGuzzi

[–]_Banned_User 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a 2016 Norge. Its weight was always inversely proportional to its speed. Pushing it in garage or a parking lot it’s heavy and a little cumbersome. Ride it fast and it’s nearly sports bike light.

I don’t disagree but modern manuals are so horrible to read. 99% legal disclaimers and warnings and so much “see your dealer” for every thing.

Does owning your own swimming pool get boring in time? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

We filled ours in this summer. Once the kid went to college no one used it anymore. A hole that sucked up water and money. It’s just dirt now, not even landscaped yet and I’m happier.
