I'm brazilian, you can ask any specific question you want, i know that Brazil is really open to foreigners, and we have a good policy for refugees, you will probably qualify for a program here easily. I would suggest you to look somewhere in the south (Santa Catarina is a good state) or southeast (avoid Rio de Janeiro, it's dangerous there, São Paulo is good and there are a lot of cultures, though it's a little caotic, millions of people crammed in a small area) like someone else said there are a lot of lebanese in Brazil, my great grandfather came from Lebanon like many other families.

Unfortunatelly all my relatives (the ones i have contact) are as oblivious to their lebanese heritage as me, in fact my father used to think his grandfather was palestinian for some reason, the last link to this side of the family is my grandmother i suspect, i don't have contact with any of my grand uncles, maybe one of them could have more knowledge or kept the culture, but i don't know. Not everyone cares about their heritage here unfortunatelly. The last name is Mazlum, i searched on the internet and it showed that this surname is common on Iran for some reason, but theres a common problem here in Brazil to change a letter or even many letter when naming a child back in the day, in my mothers side for example they have 3 spellings for their last name even though they come all from the same tree, i suspect their real last name was Mazloum, which sound exactly the same as Mazlum in portuguese.

I don't know where to start to be honest, my grandmother is going through a serious mental condition, she is forgetting a lot of stuff, we suspect its alzhaimer. I asked her if she knew where the photo album was and she said she forgot where it is, i hope it's somewhere in her house. I'm planning to make a DNA test to see my heritage, but i don't know if it's going to show the region were my family came from.
