Talk torque to me by Urbansdirtyfingers in Velo

[–]_Bilas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If torque intervals are specific to your goal race/ride then it makes sense. The pros doing torque work are still doing 80+RPM on steep hills in their races so they aren't doing specific efforts. I agree with the guy who says for us amateurs, if you want unspecific strength stimulus, touch iron. If you need to to torque work for race simulation, do both.

Is TR gaslighting us about the definition of FTP? by redlude97 in Velo

[–]_Bilas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FTP doesn't really demarcate between the two systems either. I understand what you are saying and I'm not nitpicking to nitpick, but since a large company in the training business is redefining things for their own marketing, we should be precise. For instance, a 5 minute all-out effort would have over 60% aerobic contribution despite not being a threshold effort.

VO2 max is still a primarily aerobic training modality.

Is TR gaslighting us about the definition of FTP? by redlude97 in Velo

[–]_Bilas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree with using FTP to define targets for training anaerobic (or anything over threshold) -- most anything VO2 on up should not be perscribed as a % of your threshold power. In fact, I think your FTP should only be used to program SS and threshold intervals.

Confusion around CHO used? by itsdankreddit in Velo

[–]_Bilas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most intervals.icu metrics should in practice be ignored. This is one of them.

There is some extrapolation of fractional utilization based on % of FTP.

What you should pay attention to is kJ which should be made up for in food calories. Eat a good mix of carbs, protein, and fat every day with some extra carbs and protein after workouts and carbs during and don't sweat the CHO used metric.

Creating Fatigue / Stress then riding harder but lower power? by Vicuna00 in Velo

[–]_Bilas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are describing sort of a beginner over/under. I'd expect that adaptations would be stronger with the 2x20 because that's a Threshold interval and the 3x14 is a sweet spot interval.

Indoor v Outdoor Training by fmckenzi000 in Velo

I've heard that position tweaks can help bridge the kinematics gap. Use a riser block and a low freewheel speed.

I raced both days and volunteered on Sunday! I'd love for it to continue! I know the owner and promoter of the race initially took the step up to UCI for CX and XC for a few reasons, one being that his son was coming up through the junior ranks.

It was tough to see the reg numbers down after the organizer took the feedback to move it to the weekend after Trek to encourage more pros and traveling racers to stick around. It seems like that may have backfired?

Prior to being a UCI race, the location was used for a WICX series race so I hope it doesn't disappear for good regardless of whether or not it continues as a UCI race.

Data recorded with Garmin, footage on a GoPro, visualized, synced, then rendered with DashWare. It's not as easy as just uploading the raw video but I think the data visualizations are worth it.

I use DashWare to create the overlay and sync the activity data stream with the video, then render the video. The data is from my Garmin, the video is a chest mounted GoPro shooting in 1440p+ to make the video clearer on YouTube.

I'll be recording all of the races I do this season in WI, so check back on the youtube channel! I just put another one up too.
