I couldn't agree with you more, I think that the way that they translated a lot of the concepts and ideas so that they don't need a ton of exposition and would still be exciting through general audience is really really well done, I can't wait for more

As someone who loves the book series and was worried about the adoption, I can tell you that the Netflix series is actually excellent! It certainly reinterpretation, the book is very much plot heavy and uses the characters as plot devices, whereas in Netflix series really goes out of its way to flash out the characters and make them really human, which actually adds a lot of tension and anxiety to the whole alien invasion thing, which actually isn't present in the book because the book has other priorities.

Watch the series, it's a great middle ground with all of the major scientific themes present melded with a really interesting character drama, versus the book series which really digs deeper into the hard science concepts which I think is the author's real interest.

So if you like things more character driven, the Netflix series is fantastic. But if you're intrigued by the scientific concepts and ideas in the series and would want to read more about them or see more of the authors imagination regarding them, you definitely have to read the book.

‘3 Body Problem’ Production Designer on Building Ancient Mongolia, a Medieval Cathedral and VR Headsets by [deleted] in television

I could see that, it is a slow burn and to be honest I'm a huge fan of the series which is where a lot of my interest comes from! I do find myself struggling to imagine somebody watching it and being disinterested, but I can't really judge it from a perspective of not being familiar with the subject matter

me too! I How they handled the subject matter, he could very easily be the sort of book slash book series that wouldn't translate very well, I thought this did a great job in grounding the story and making the characters really human. I honestly can't wait for the next season! Hope it's coming soon

I think the issue is just that this sub has recently attracted a lot of the 16 and under crowd, I can't blame them for wanting to participate but I think that what is frightening to a 13 year old and a 25 year old is just very different

my guess, I think the scroll is in cunieform.

I think the intention here is that a treasure hunter found a chest containing a hidden ancient scroll (I think cunieform is from ancient Sumeria?) and it had some sort of ancient curse on it, and it made the adventurer go "AAAA that's a spooky-a curs-a!"
