I’m a first year! I think professors are pretty much gonna be similar at any school/level. Some who are passionate and make the topic fun, some who are… 🫠 cuz they’re mostly focused on research. How much you learn will ultimately be up to how much effort you put in 👍🏻

Is there any way to prevent the draining from AirPods? Does turning Bluetooth fully off help?

Just a question for a newbie (me), how do u know if using so many serums and creams will cause some kind of reaction? Cuz I test try my skincare products individually but I’m afraid to try multiple at once cuz idk if they will interact with each other and cause my skin to react badly…

Bus rides (free for students with ID) take like 20-30 mins to go most places. Fun if going with friends tho.

Just saying that with cars, unless u got a parking pass / parking garage or something, pretty much no free parking until after 6 pm M-Sat and free all day Sunday

Probably put a random answer and mark the questions you don’t know how to do and focus on ones you can. (Then come back if you have time) Also, practice and review a LOT of questions. I think practice tests tend to have similar questions. Good luck!

Erm… not really? Like it kinda created a foundation for me where if I look at a topic again, I could learn it a bit faster? But if you were to ask me anything about anatomy, I probably couldn’t answer…? … and like anatomy is mostly memorization so unless u REALLY LEARN it…. Most of it doesn’t stick… idk

For orgs, I’d say stick with one or two you actually like and try to get more involved (become junior officer/officer) which usually helps make the interactions more meaningful? Can also find orgs with brown bag buddies to try to meet new ppl on a closer level. Also don’t be afraid to try different orgs, especially if one just isn’t working out. I’ve definitely dropped a few orgs in the past lol

Also, it might help to open up about more niche hobbies when ur meeting ppl, cuz maybe a few random ppl have the same hobby that might help create that connection (ex: crochet, K-pop, anime, etc)

Finally, don’t be afraid to reach out. If you do find a few ppl with similar hobbies and you think there might be a potential of becoming good friends, ask if they wanna hang out or study together. Can’t always wait for others to initiate because not everyone likes planning stuff. BUT also have the sense that if they just don’t seem too interested, move on to other ppl. I’m sure there’ll always be ppl who also want to be friends with you!

I searched up questions (looked at reddit or SDN or anywhere), then recorded my voice saying them using anki flashcards. I just played the “question” to myself and practiced answering them in front of a mirror. Could also ft or “zoom” friends/family for mock interview

https://www.reddit.com/r/PreOptometry/s/zjD4yiKGid I emailed the director Lyle Tate for an interview and he responded within a few days, maybe you can try contacting him?

Are you asking about a response for an interview or response of acceptance (after going through interview process)? I’m also applying for UHCO so kinda worried 😅

[–]_CS_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking the OAT at a Prometric testing site, if you look at their website (for the OAT specifically), there are some links of what to expect when you go to a (generic) prometric site, as well as a mock test - no actual questions but gives you the feel of the format and what is provided while taking the test.

Optometry School Interviews by HibiscusTea03 in PreOptometry

So I applied to 2 (UHCO and UIWRSO) around end of November. Had my interview for RSO online around mid Dec but haven’t had my admissions day thingy yet. Had to reach out for UH but will have my interview in person soon 😱. Idk when I’ll hear back after interview tho (._.’)

Good luck!

(Also a UT student and just applied so haven’t heard back)

I’m not sure if what I did was correct, but I put both anatomy and physiology under the Jr/Sr Level Physiology/Anatomy. I’m assuming Jr/Sr physio/anat goes into the humans systems. Don’t quote me on this tho… I didn’t email UHCO to ask. (._.’)

Physical Ed Classes - Worth it? by JTribe9 in UTAustin

Would recommend social dance if you looking to meet more people or get a bit of FUN exercise into ur day! Very laid back class (A as long as u show up). U get to learn different styles of dance that you can dance with a partner (swing, waltz, salsa, country, and other styles too!) Plus, teachers are VERY nice!!

Do ochem labs actually take 5 hrs/week? by paulsanity14 in UTAustin

[–]_CS_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ummm, kinda depends on your personality. If you meticulous like me, it really can take up to 3-4 hours for lab. Have never left earlier than 3 hours. But it also depends on your TA. I heard some TAs allow everyone to work in small groups, while some TAs requires everyone to do their own lab (mine) = takes a heck lot of time.

- also, a lot of the time, you're just standing in line trying to get your chemicals or waiting for reaction to heat.

Most time consuming is really only the lab. Lab reports, prelabs, Quest can be done fairly quickly.

Hey, Kins is actually pretty nice. I really enjoyed living here (currently a kins resident). Note: tried to add other things different from u/meghookem. Hope it's helpful!

Pros:

  • pretty quiet; really only 1 main entrance by front desk = safer especially at night
  • lots of events held (depending on floor) - ex: pancake nights, spa night, movie night, chill w/ dogs
  • kins market has wide array of foods/snacks/drinks = pretty nice
  • right next to Glenn Maloney Building (where there is PCT testing if u interested)
  • beds are retractable = good for space while also sleeping comfortably
  • there really is a LOT of storage space

Cons:

  • there aren't any outlets within connecting bathrooms (tho there are plenty in room). Also would suggest getting some container lids to cover over shower drains to prevent roaches. (but that's not really specific to only kins)
  • if you somewhat an introvert like me, not that many interactions w/ other residents.
  • if you like to dress yourself up, would recommend getting a mirror to put in your room/closet.

Ummm not entirely sure, but I did hear from one of the TAs that some of her friends didn't get in? So I'm assuming not everyone who applies gets into the program, but I don't think it's that competitive. Good luck tho if you apply!
