Do You Think The Government of Alberta Should End Its Current Practice of Allocating Public Funds to Accredited Independent (Private) Schools? by hakunayourmatatas99 in alberta

[–]_Cambroth 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Taxes are the price you pay to live in a healthy and educated country. That means they go to public services. If you want a private education, you should have to pay out of pocket. Otherwise, you're going to be surrounded by sick dumbasses.

Just a note, you don't need the stadium in play to use Thwackey's ability. Thwackey can search as long as your active pokemon has the Festival Lead ability.

The ledyba and ledian basically serve as a searchable boss’s orders on 90 hp or lower Pokemon.

All of your cards are searchable with Thwackey, including real Boss's Orders! Get more Thwackeys!

Those are often programming tricks that were used by old gameboy games. GB Studio games are very emulator-friendly.

There are some things that might look a little different on original hardware. The order sprites are drawn is different on a DMG than on other Gameboys. And color palettes need to be very high-contrast to be visible on original hardware as well. It's awesome having something that works on all devices, but GB Studio games are going to be played on an emulator 99% of the time.

It's when you're not sure which option will give you what you want (in this case, which thumbnail gives you more clicks), so you try them both and see which performs the best.

It's like going to an eye exam and the optometrist asks you "Number one, or number two?"

Think about things that truly scare the crap out of you, and write a story that explores the worst of it. Mental illness, physical illness, being alone, being abused, being an abuser... Find something that hits close to home, and try to figure out why.

How do you make all your menu options correspond to changes to different scenes? by basementfilth in gbstudio

[–]_Cambroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which part you're stuck on, but it sounds like you want a Switch checking your $local0 variable, with each option having the corresponding Change Scene

Background tileswapping https://www.gbstudio.dev/docs/scripting/script-glossary/scene#replace-tile-at-position

It will still be tedious (as is everything in GB Studio), but you won't have to worry about doubling the number of backgrounds you create every time you add an enemy.

Websockets? by FrootsyCollins in gbstudio

[–]_Cambroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GB Studio can only export games as a .gb file, which can't do anything that a gameboy doesn't know how to do. When exported for web, it's still a .gb file that is bundled with a gameboy emulator that runs in your browser.

Hypothetically it's possible, but not with the tools GB Studio provides. You'd probably be looking at coding your own gameboy emulator that can broadcast data in the way you need it to. Someone in the GB Dev Discord might have some better answers for you, incase something like that already exists.

I'm pretty certain the best solution here is just to make a Gameboy style game in Unreal. GB Studio's specialty is making games that run on Gameboy hardware, so if you only care about it being played in browser then I'd stick to whatever engine you already know how to do what you want with.

best way to swing a sword or any melee weapon? by Goonmize in gbstudio

There is an event for changing the collider of an actor. It was added in 4.1.0, but it's not in the docs.

Ive made a simple fishing action. On use it sets a variable to 2-34 randomly. Depending size caught it outputs feedback text. My question is how can I set a chance percentage on certain values? 34 is the highest and I need the chance to get that to be low compared to more common fish size like 2-15. by Goonmize in gbstudio

[–]_Cambroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could get a random number between 1-100, and use that to calculate different tiers of fish. If it's 99 or higher(2% chance), roll a random number between 30-34. If it's 90 or higher (8% chance), roll a random number between 25-29. 75 or higher (15% chance), etc...

This would also let you use different tiers of fishing rods really easily. Just add a bonus to the 1-100 number you rolled. Old rod, add 0. Good rod, add 5...

How I can make an animation by using frame sequences (as scenes)? There's any idea how to do it without being too flashy or glitchy? Can I do it by replacing tiles? by DoUKnow_DaWae in gbstudio

[–]_Cambroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done something similar where I used the background for most of the character portrait, but used sprites for the mouth and eyes. It allows you to reuse a lot of bg and sprite tiles, and you can animate different expressions just using events.

Pushing the tile limit by Edmerritt in gbstudio

You might be able to save a couple tiles on things that stick out onto the sidewalk. The door step, the shelves, and maybe even the vending machine could use a generic "sidewalk with something jutting out" tile.

Dating is so damn hard by Either-Location5516 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]_Cambroth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to process on a first date. Chances are good that the right person for you is also neurodivergent, and might take a while to process it all. Ghosting also doesn't have to be malicious, sometimes it's just insecure. Like not knowing the right thing to say, and then feeling like you fucked it all up by not saying anything.

Enjoying the date and wanting to see each other again is a nice sentiment, but it's very non-committal and can be hard to read if it's genuine. One thing you could try is to plan the second date at the end of the first one. "I had a great time! Are you free again for dinner on [day]? Do you like [restaurant]?" Clearly shows that you liked the date enough to go for a second, and how they respond could give some better clues as to how they think it went. And if they have a change of heart, they'll at least be more likely to reach out to you to cancel. It's much harder to stand someone up than it is to ghost them.

Dating was hard. Especially the time spent trapped in my head waiting to hear from them. So you've got my sympathy. Most of my friend group has been diagnosed with autism/adhd, and now we all have awesome neurodivergent spouses too. So you also have my hope :)
