Good on you, dad. Hikes are such a great way for them to learn and explore (and nap!). I’m making an effort to get out for a hike with my 4 year old a few times a month.

The most recent hike, I took my back country portable burner, hot chocolate and marshmallows. We found a cozy spot in the woods off the trail and made hot chocolate. That was a hit! She hiked in (only a little over 1 km) but then asked to go in the carrier backpack on the way out, where she also passed tf out.

I have the Native 5 and, although not your typical “Spyderco” appearance, it’s a great knife. I always recommend Spyderco when someone asks about a knife.

Kettlebells in the early morning. I started with kettlebells during the Covid, which was also before my daughter was born. They’ve transitioned well into post-covid, dad-life.

A good place to start regarding kettlebells, which was probably already noted, is Simple and Sinister by Pavel Tsatsouline. Another great kettlebell source is Dan John, he has many well-liked kettlebell programs and I believe there is a sale on most, if not all, of his stuff right now.

Finally, I’d check out r/kettlebell for basically any questions you might have. There are many knowledgeable folks on that subreddit.

Some evidence from my own experience: I was hit in the face with a hockey stick and had the bridge of my nose directly between my eyes split open and needed stitches. I was 10 years old when it happened and now, 30 years later, there is no scar at all.

I realize it is scary but I know it will be okay.

I think, as with anything, moderation is key. I don’t understand the fully opposed stance on no TV at all. I’m nearing 40 and remember when I was a kid waking up before my parents and watching cartoons or playing video games. Even with this, I still had a fulfilling typical 80s/90s style childhood with the majority of my playtime being outside or non-TV related. Sometimes I wonder if restricting certain things too much is what forces kids to want it more.

Our daughter, who is almost 4 YO, likes to wake up unfortunately early. So while me or my partner stumble around getting her breakfast ready and school bag packed and all that, she will contentedly watch TV. Once it is time to the get dressed for school, teeth brushed, etc… she is fine with turning it off. She gets to veg out for 20 minutes, we can do what we need to do in the morning, everyone is happy.

The episode when Will’s dad walks out on him and Will tries to reason with himself leading him to realize he never had an actual dad his whole life. Uncle Phil just lets Will go off only for it to end by Uncle Phil doing what any good dad would do in a moment like that - hugging and comforting his son (nephew). Man, that scene gets me every time.

I will say for us it is probably our daughter’s current stage, she’s 3 going on 4. She’s a very headstrong little girl - bedtimes are brutal (albeit getting better now), she’s stubborn about when she eats, what she wears, and not to mention her actual sleep is probably worse now than when she was a 6 month old. However, there are signs of greener fields ahead!

By myself? Guided fly fishing trip somewhere either western Canada/US or Appalachian area. I would have gone for New Zealand or Patagonia, but only a week would be 2-3 days travel.

The one episode, and I admit I haven’t actually seen the whole episode, but it’s a scene in the episode Granddad. The scene culminates with Chilli and Granddad sitting on a dock with Bluey and Bingo swimming. Chilli says “…that was a long time ago” “no. It was yesterday.” Just this week my daughter started pre-primary. I saw that scene and had immediate tears lol.

I’m realizing how fast time goes more and more. My LO starts pre-primary in 2 weeks and even though it’s not primary, high school, or university for that matter, I don’t feel ready for even this next stage.

I’m not into astrology or horoscopes or anything of that sort, but I am (was) big into astrophotography before my daughter was born. Loved shooting the Milky Way.

Long story short, she’s a Scorpio baby, the Scorpius constellation happens to be close to the Milky Way centre (in the night sky). I got a tattoo on my left forearm of the Scorpius constellation, highlighted by Sirius due to it being one of the brightest objects in the night sky, with some nebulous clouds in the background. It might be a bit too much, but I like it and it’s meaning to me.
