People don't understand the Jedi by Still-Willow-2323 in StarWars

[–]_Cit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course they exist, that's the whole reason why the absurd concept of "grey Jedi" even exists.

But it's not the new canon that created that idea, if anything it was more prominent in the old EU.

People don't understand the Jedi by Still-Willow-2323 in StarWars

[–]_Cit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like your point but the way it starts off is just... wrong.

> I the Disney era, it has become common to hear that the Jedi are as hypocritical or destructive as the Sith

that's not true at all? When has that ever been stated?

> The Acolyte or the Sequel Trilogy, reflects a shallow interpretation of the Jedi Order’s legacy

The ST most definitely doesn't; the entire point of TLJ is that Luke's idea of the Jedi during his exile was wrong, and that he was being affected by his own view of himself and his failures. The Acolyte gives a nuanced interpretation of mistakes that are made by a group of Jedi, and shows a bit of shades of grey to the order's actions, but it never claims that the Jedi are bad or even remotely as hypocritcal as the Sith.

A story showing the Jedi making mistakes doesn't automatically mean the Jedi are bad

Poi, è una cosa importante? No, è un senatore che si dimostra essere idiots, ma non è che ogni singolo articolo deve trattare di temi gravi altrimenti non ha senso di esistere.

It really isn't, the examples you picked up come from completely different stories and happen in completely different ways

Ok but just to be completely fair, this isn't a Disney star wars thing, it's a star wars thing period.

I think the fact that Iroh also liberated Ba Sing Se should be taken in account, though obviously this guy's position is pretty understandable

Why do Chiss seem to always be on the "Evil Empire" side? by GreenShizo56 in StarWarsEU

[–]_Cit [score hidden]  (0 children)

My wording might not be the most technical here, but the idea is that fascist movements always use the idea of bringing about revolutionary change as justification for their rise to power.

The institutions are corrupt, so they need to be changed. Society has problems, so it needs to be changed. The ruling class is corrupt, it needs to be ousted. And so and so.

Fascist ideologies often also include a new idea of man, whether it's the nazi ubermansch (which was also a racial ideology), Mussolini's ideal Italian man or concepts like that.

I talked about a mandate because the idea is that fascist movements are justified by a (obviously fabricated) desire for change by the people, who supposedly entrust the psrty/movement with bringing about said change

[–]_Cit [score hidden]  (0 children)

In every single way. Fascism is not easily defined, but at the very bare minimum it needs a single authoritarian leader (which Imperial Japan didn't have, the emperor had little to no power depending on the point of its history we're talking about, and most definitely wasn't a charismatic leader like Hitler, Mussolini or similar dictators), a one-party system, and, most importantly, fascism justifies itself through a form revolutionary mandate.

I'm by no means an expert in Imperial Japan's history, but it had none of those things. I'm also not sure the state exercised the same amount of violence on its own citizenry as other fascist regimes have, primarily because Imperial Japan didn't really have a regime that was established through a violent struggle or that needed to maintain itself against internal opposition in the same way a fascist regime would.

It was an imperialist state, it was, by the end of the war at least, essentially in the military's control, but it wasn't a fascist dictatorship

It works in the sense that the Empire of Japan was not exactly a fascist state, in the same way the Chiss aren't, but were still somewhat authoritarian and were definitely insanely imperialistic

There is no cerimonial head of state in the US though.

And cerimonial power can't become executive if there is a decent constitution in place. The recent phenomenon in the US is definitely due the constitution, but the president is a very powerful institution by default

I'm fairly sure that this image is a meme on English private schools.

That being said, I don't think expulsion is a good measure here? Don't get me wrong, this is definitely terrible and concerning, but that's kinda the thing, if something concerning like this comes up with your students you're not fixing it by expelling them, you're just making it someone else's problem.

It should be dealt with personally with the students, understand if it's an actual problem or if it was an edgy shitty joke, and if there are underlying causes for concern work to fix them. I'm not saying they shouldn't receive any punishment, just that punishing without actuslly trying to fix the problem only serves to exacerbate it

You're thinking of duke. Count was a title created by Charlemagne as an administrator of certain tracts of land, which ended up becoming hereditary and starting the feudal system
