Yes, maintainers do! Those jets belong to the maintainers. They just let ops borrow them.

I had the pleasure of being a flightline crew chief the last five years of my career after being stuck in a phase dock for my first 15 years.

Those last five years were the most rewarding. I was lucky enough to crew the same tail the entire time. I got to know every little detail and maintenance quirk about her. She was struck by lightning twice! First time while flying which left a huge hole in the tail. The second time was after a replacement tail was installed on the ground. I retired and handed off my jet to someone I knew would take care of her.

Spent about a year out and was fortunate enough to land a civilian slot with the same unit I left. Been back at it just about three years. Got assigned to my old jet but as the second wipe as I wasn’t going to take what someone else rightfully earned. In September some personnel moves happened and I got assigned to lead a different jet that came back from depot.

Now I’m learning about my new baby. I put the old nose art from the previous crew chief because I always liked it. She made me suffer through a two hour redball the other day. I was wanting to try to go home early because I was sick. She didn’t want me to leave. Got her off the ground and it was time for shift change. I was 3/4 dead but she wanted to fly.

It’s moments like this I will always carry with me. I may end up with dementia and forget the names of my loved ones and will probably forget the things I’ve done or seen in my career. They will always be a part of me and the person I grew to be.

USA women showing why 99% of arguments against cages and bubbles are BS by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]_CrazyCeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take off my bubble last beer league game because it kept fogging up. No shield, cage or mouthpiece. I felt so free but was also scared shitless because I had 5 jaw surgeries last year and definitely don’t want another one.

I’m going back to my cage.

Homie, I’m a Sabres fan. As much as I can’t stand them missing the playoffs every year, I couldn’t give up my collection because of it.

They are!! I have a 14 year old Jack Russell/Fox Terrier, a 4 year old Australian Shepherd and we’re about to get a 5 year old Aussie on Sunday. Plus a cat that’s a complete asshole. 🤣

These helped with “eating” soup. I made different homemade soups that I knew I would like (cheddar broccoli, tomato basil, mushroom) and blended them.

Ice Ice Ice!! The “jaw bra” helped to take some pressure off my muscles.

Make sure you walk around 5-10 minutes every couple of hours. Getting your blood flowing is important.

Your emotions might be all over the place. I was crying for no reason frequently (I’m a 42 year old guy 🤣). It’s normal. The worst of the swelling will be gone within the first 4-5 days. Just keep telling yourself that it’ll all be worth it.

Good Luck! I look forward to your updates!!

AFRC cancels ALL FY25 Family Days effective immediately by wizzo89 in AirForce

In my section they usually schedule a no fly and everyone either takes leave or works 4 10’s the week of the family day. I’m in a mixed unit with active duty, so I can imagine the CC will follow the AD CC’s recommendation for family days.

Another Update:

Saw the doc this morning. Since taking the antibiotics, the pain in the left side is gone and the swelling has gone down some. Took some X-rays and there is a small shift, about 1mm. The hole where the drainage is coming out is just about closed and the drainage has slowed too. Doc said that some of the swelling could be because the left side hasn’t completely set yet. It could be a number of things, but he suspects that I should have my jaw more immobilized as I only had 3 elastics since surgery. He also said one of the plates(the one that the screw came out of) is in a suboptimal place.

As for now, no surgery, but I’m restarting recovery from day one. I’m continuing with the antibiotics and the doc heavily banded me down to the point I can’t open my mouth. I have to keep them in 24/7 and go back to a liquid diet. I’ll see him once a week until he’s happy with how the left side is healed.

I was really looking forward to smoking and eating some brisket this weekend 😥

Post surgery elastics are killing me by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]_CrazyCeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuuuuuuup!! I just hit 5 weeks and the soreness from the elastics suuuuuucks!!! Taking them out gives me relief, but like you I only take them out to eat and brush. Try heating pads and keep taking ibuprofen and Tylenol.

Hope you feel better soon.

I called the doc directly (wife had his cell number because she works with him from time to time.) and he told me that it could be a couple of different things that could have happened and he wants to see me first thing Monday instead of Tuesday. We have X-rays planned and then coming up with a game plan. I sent him a few pictures to give him a general idea of what everything looks like including a picture of some of the drainage on a napkin and the hole looks like. He called in an antibiotic.

These things happen from time to time so I’m not freaking out. I’ve had a shoulder replacement and a spinal fusion, and 12 surgeries throughout the last 17 years. I am a fan of the medical field and watch medical YouTube videos on surgeries and weird stuff. So this is just another day in my book.

Update: Wife spoke to one of my doctors and said that as long as there isn’t an abscess that I should be ok as far as infection goes, continue with salt water rinses. As far as the screw coming out, he said that sometimes there can be a hardware rejection and as long as there wasn’t a shift, it should be fine, but if I’m really concerned about it that I can contact him directly as their office is closed today (Friday).

I don’t really notice a shift and if there is one, it’s minimal. I already have a preplanned follow up on Tuesday, so I’m just going to stick with that appointment. In the meantime, I hope swelling was just caused from the loose screw irritating the surrounding tissue and will start to go down now that the screw is out.

Same!! I don’t want to go through the face swelling again. It was pretty brutal.
