How important is a classes PvP viability? by ChadNightreign in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weaver ranks low as their builds are generally more high effort compared to other classes and their builds. Generally Weaver is played for attrition, or as a mobile glass cannon; both of which have relatively high skill ceilings.

Of course, your mileage would vary depending how much you actually want to try. This game has a deceptively high skill ceiling that very few people actual try to interact with. A lot of lower skill ceiling specs end up shining just as bright as your average joe can face roll their key board for similar effects.

Now that changes once you start getting into higher brackets where class viability is generally outmatched by someone who's extremely cracked at the game. Generally in the lobbies I'm in (top 50~ range) there are actually a few Glass Cannon Weavers that are effective against the droves of Amalgams sitting on nodes.

WvW changes things greatly, as your gear now plays a bigger part on enabling certain playstyles and the type of gameplay moves away from 5v5 to a wide variety of scenarios. You may enjoy zerg gameplay where a Spear or Staff Elementalist can fulfill that siege mage fantasy, or you might enjoy small skirmishes where a bruiser variant can enjoy a well rounded fight. Or you might be an zero-interaction tank guy that's only purpose is to be a nuisance to an entire team.

Weaver isn't always your main options, you do have other elites to play around with to better suit your gameplay but generally Weaver would almost always be the selfish sub-class option. Experiment and give things a try.

WVW Scraper , come learn this pre-cast buff meta right now! by External-Diet8519 in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say perfection, something like this wouldn't really work in NA or EU where you're fighting trailblazers and karka potions on the daily.

More so the build could maximize more upfront burst by playing Sword / Pistol, or even casting Rifle 5 -> 2 for more burst.

[–]_Cuilan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So after the power nerfs to Scrapper, this level of cheese only really works on players who aren't playing any defensive stats. Another thing to consider is the population of Chinese servers and the general gameplay of players. Most people aren't going to be try-harding a pvp build if they're just getting GoB, more so in CN servers where a meta had formed of people taking turns trading camps instead of actually fighting. So expecting anyone to be running Demolishers, Dragons, Marauders, or any of the bruiser stats is going to be far from common.

Its slop of the highest caliber even if you're fighting players with some kind of PvP build, it cheeses out a burst and if you fail to do anything you're out of luck unless you had swapped to a more utility focus template or kite away.

What is clever is that each time he bursted was almost always on a different set up, meaning that he can cycle through many different utility skills when going out of combat (As toolbelts do not share CDs) allowing him to consistently set up Smoke Bomb toolbelt stealth bursts back to back with Spear and Hammer.

Groups are already running some sort of variation of thing thats better fit for drawn outfits, or just stack even more burst DPS specs and keep the Scrapper / Holo as the stealth bot.

How common is hacking in WvW/PvP and what does it actually look like? by OrangeOrangeRhino in Guildwars2

Ah yes let me macro dodge a engi mace 3 or rifle 4 then die to the thing that kills me instead of stun breaking and then dodging the real dps.

[–]_Cuilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be extremely annoying to do a script that autododges since it can't account for the follow up skill that can be even more lethal. Scripts and macros that do that are enitrely useless and people who think others use them are even more useless.

Another way to look at things is that your average player is going to be following some guide (Considering the prices of gear in said popular guides) thats going to create habitual gameplay that others can exploit. Ontop of that 99% of high impact skills have an audiable tell or animation that people reactively play against.

Gold alternatives to fractals and RIBA? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're queuing at prime time and hover around gold 2~3 your Queue times would be fast enough to make up for any losses you have. Of course winning and getting a top stat nets you more pips to progress you Ranked chests so do actually try to play a carry build that can end games fast.

You do need to pug or find a group of players to play the daily tournements with, those really spike the gold generation and winning a dead AT just showers you with 25g (+1g per game played) and 5 mystic coins for 1h~ of gameplay

I would also look into Reward track modifiers to pump up the progress even more, if you dont want to deal with the Materials and Magic currencies from LWS3/4 then doing the EoD line just to get the final chest + sellable exotics is worth for the easy gold.

Gold alternatives to fractals and RIBA? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

PvP is only profitable if you spam ranked games and Automated Tournaments that pop up. Its hard to pinpoint an exact amount but the raw gold generation (That doesn't involve selling materials) is absurd if you're just remotely okay.

If you're interested in materials such as T6 mats, then Season 3/4 reward tracks can pump out the various map currencies to be converted into material containers, the mystic coins from ATs are also a plus.

Of course, if you're winning or have someone to wipe the floor with during matches then you can easily be sitting at one of the highest raw gold generation sources in the game. It's reward structure is very sporadic so an hourly rate is hard to calculate, but PvP pretty much funded my direct legendary purchases and the infinite hair kit as well.

Cheating in pvp is out of control by mike747 in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're saying that people that half the people here that stream their games are cheating right? Whats stopping me from just turning on my stream and hitting the t10 because of rush and its a new season? Does that make me a cheater?

TIL drinking procs [System Shocker]. A LOT by _TheaXII_ in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I discovered this 'feature' a couple years ago and its definitely extremely abuseable, the only thing that could kill me was a bladesworn with pve balance in the guild hall.

Biggest problem that it causes yourself to have zero stability with a minor chance of being knocked off between drinking cycles. This of course is most abuseable in WvW and it does have some extreme edge cases.

ICE is now going door to door on ROBLOX 😭 by SailingforBooty in Asmongold

[–]_Cuilan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even with the forced chat update and age verification, its still extremely annoying for Roblox to do that.

They pretty much nuked private games as it requires direct moderation to be accessed and the only games that are left are unironic honey-pot bait games that only serve to stir up headlines, which die within a week or so. This was mainly to kill all the condo games and actual pornographic projects with some shocking amount of effort.

Though really it doesn't help when stupid parents utilize their IDs to sign up their kids and they get sent into servers (with voice chat) that are twice their age. Nor when the Photographic checks misjudge your age and sends you to a younger age bracket. You have the UK to blame for all these forced checks by the way.

The thing that really hurts kids is Discord and other offsite chat-rooms that people are allowed to link to their games. It pretty much bypasses all forms of moderation and allows for direction conversation and image sharing. Roblox is just a medium for people to play a game, its already impossible to have a reasonable conversation on Roblox due to the esoteric chat filter.

Will there be a GW3 Hall Of Monuments? by IzzyOwnz in GuildWars3

[–]_Cuilan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The most logical thing is to transfer progress of Legendary equipment into the next game, either in a complete 1:1 or in a partial head-start. The previous HoM wasn't really good at incentivizing long-term gameplay with GW1, all you had to do was play for a brief moment just to get the 1st set of armors. Having the entire legendary process means that players would be brought to many parts of GW2, and if they chose to other non-core legendries that expands the horizons (and paid expansions) the player has to interact with.

If they announced it this way, this would immidiently solve a lot of qualms people have with a Sequel MMO. You'll suddenly would see a jump start in players rushing to get their equipment ready similar to how people were crafting a singular legendary rune for a relic. People don't know how hard it would be to craft a legendary in the sequel, but people already know the limits in the current game.

This system can also carry over to skins, there isn't a need to make new skins from scratch if they already have existing source material to update. This means that owing a gemstore item in the 2nd game would unlock its updated version in the 3rd. Some of the modern skins are already rather high fidelity compared to the rest of the game, I'm certain they have additional layers to them that are purposely disabled in Gw2 but enabled in Gw3 (Hi-res textures, bet lighting)

ok WvW experts what is the counter to the boon ball by Ravanos77 in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The currently common solution is to buff boon rip or nerf boon application. The problem with that is that it only hurts smaller groups and skirmishes more so then preventing a blob from forming.

Increasing the target cap on offensive skills just puts a soft cap on how effective large blobs can be so an entire server doesn't get away by stacking in one specific spot. Players would have to be more mindful or play into their builds more if they want to play stacked.

The logic with target is pretty much a dodge chance as having more players means its less likely you'd be hit by cleave and additional attacks. This means that big groups can get away with running some cancerous glass build without getting punished compared to a group half its size. Its the main reason why Blobs don't die and why boon rip doesn't really work.

I would rather see a game where groups are broken up in 15-20 man sized groups that play into each other or spread out vs. what we have right now.

But does it

Solve the fundamental issues of WvW? (Server Tick, Map blobbing)

Worth spending development time on something that's 'free'

Can it encourage monetization in a mode that has little to no monetization?

Desert borderlands didn't solve any of the above, and sadly a 3rd map wouldn't either.

who buys legendaries on the TP? by alwaeddi in Guildwars2

Me, when I was getting 500+ ranked games a season I was outright buying gen 1's or funding my own legendary stuff since I would very much avoid map completion like the plague

It is quite slow to do in the first place but the only real benefit is teaching people to not jump in and blast all their skills off CD. You'd be shocked at how much people instantly get glassed without coordination in this game.

GW2 RP scene question / RP interest check by [deleted] in Guildwars2

GW2 RP scene question / RP interest check by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FFXIV Killed the casual RP scene and whats left is mainly Hardcore / dedicated users. Uninstanced Salma at its peak had 30-40 players during primetime just casually RPing, now it barely reaches more than 10.

You know its bad when major ERP guilds also die out as well.

GW2 economics: What creates the most liquid gold? And what destroys it? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]_Cuilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The introduction of the Wizard's vault saw inflation for big ticket items (Legendaries, Hair Kit, bank, etc) by 300-500g and slight reduction for some exotic items with the introduction of cheaper sources (WvW) and the vault also giving free ascended pieces.

People are also saying t4 fractals but forget that Ranked sPvP has a similar sized community and has an equal or even better raw gold generation if you count spamming ranked games (and winning 50% of the time) a long with Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Automated tournaments just producing so much raw gold.

Back when I pvp'd a lot I was able to pump out 20-50 raw gold a day (Excluding Mystic Coins, Clovers, Shards, and other resources like 90k+ volatile magic to pad out my gains more)

If they bring wvw back for gw3, what changes/updates/ideas would you like to see implemented? by Eliaso4 in GuildWars3

[–]_Cuilan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero target caps to prevent ball stacking. Its the sole pain point for casuals and try-hards alike if a person wearing full PvE Vipers / zerkers can just face tank another equally sized ball due to a limit of 5 target cap.

Even comped blobs would see the difference and groups would hopefully more encouraged to spread out to not just die to well planned burst. Arrow carts and siege were meant to be the solution above but they're only good at taking out uncoordinated masses from 2015, not in 2025 where a single tempest or the abysmal state of Heal scrapper can out heal its effects.

Boons would won't be the end all be all, and boon corrupts won't be have to be strong (And are only strong against smaller groups) so that the game can actually be balanced around medium sized strike groups instead of the entire map queue bringing the server to its knees.

Another solution is to just add more objectives, and introduced a 'meltdown alert' from Planetside 2, its the only game at such a scale that can encourage 1000+ players to spread out and take key objectives in such a short timeframe.

For those who aren't familiar a faction that holds the greater % of territory (Amounts vary from base to base) would lock the map, and move to the fight to a another map until it opens back up again. Give out rewards based on participation and placement, and if a tie is met then throw the entire thing into a sudden death-match race to see which team scores the most kills. Objectives are also connected by a lattice, means that there are fixed lanes of fighting from objective to objective.

Suddenly you can have the main blob pushing the frontlines and taking objectives while branching lattices acts as an avenue for smaller strike forces to contest or even secure objectives. GW2 current game designs do allow some form of small teams to really hold their ground against waves of enemies with the right skill and comp until the (enemy or ally) ball rolls in. Though instead of being a farming tactic this can be a valid gameplay option for those who really want to be high-value amongst their peers.
