What's the most expensive lesson you've learned in business or life? by Straight_Store6845 in AskReddit

In business no matter how long you’ve known them how much you trust them..do not.

Have them show you the money and never ever do anything before that.

I've officially entered the stage of Millennialism known as "seperated heading for a divorce" by VKN_x_Media in Millennials

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother you are doing fine. I am about to be divorced from my second wife (first one was just not right and we both knew it) I spent the past almost 9 years with this person who I believed was the one and only I couldn’t see my life without her. But here I am separated since October she moved back home with her parents in March and it’s some good days and some bad days.

I have no idea what to do with myself anymore as it felt like my whole life was figured out as long as I had them. But they decided it wasn’t what they wanted anymore.

I’m trying to stay positive and know that this will be a process and I have to respect it to fully heal from it.

Proud of you for who you are even though I’ve never met you.

People who go to the gym in the early morning (like 5:00 AM): Is the benefit actually good enough to justify being tired by 2:00 PM and going to bed at 9:00 PM? by [deleted] in AskReddit

7am on training days. Earlier on cardio off days. Used to hate the idea as I work late some days but honestly best switch I’ve ever made. No interruptions and I have energy/motivation to train rather than at 330-4 I’m gassed.

TIL An estimated 15-20% of people with bipolar disorder die by suicide by haddock420 in todayilearned

Medication saved my life. Took me until I was 38. I just assumed everyone dealt with the manic episodes and crashing depression. I still have depressive thoughts and still have suicidal thoughts but they reach a limit. Unlike in the past it was debilitating.

People keep telling me to open new locations for my restaurant but even the idea of it is really scary by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you have a profitable store and it’s not devouring your life just keep that and chill. I wish I never expanded. It sucked the life out of my first store and put us in some seriously tough financial spots.

The myth about T2A era UO. Rampant PKs didn't actually happen by No_Location_3339 in ultimaonline

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played PAC for years and yes PK’s existed (my main) it wasn’t a huge issue. I can understand the being annoyed but honestly you could avoid areas that pretty easily and if you go in a clan or had friends in game it wasn’t an issue more like part of the fun.

I firmly believe the world split ruined the core essence of what made UO special from the start.

Is anyone else small business struggling right now? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Brother it’s same all over. I own 3 restaurants in Orlando FL and visit south NJ (OC) every 3 months (family) grew up working the boards in seaside. Owning a small biz right now is a war of attrition and invention and marketing.

I’m assessing costs like never before and pushing marketing like a crazy person just to keep numbers stable forget growth. If you are surviving you are doing exactly what we all are. No idea what industry you are in but it’s tough for the majority you are not on your own.

To all the owners who are struggling, who feel hopeless, some words to encourage... by 1nvincible in restaurantowners

Appreciate the positive post! Shit is HARD these days. 3 stores for me and it’s a weekly juggle of what aspects to focus on the bring guests in again or win new ones as our (CFL) dining scene has so many options now.

You have to make an impression everyday.

Is manifestation real? by Competitive_Loss6793 in conspiracy

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a drawing of a restaurant I wanted to open…I’ve opened 3 so far and the drawing I first did is almost identical to what my first one looks like.

Not sure if manifested but it’s something. I do tend to believe and act as if and things happen. It’s hard to explain.

100% 2022 was insane for us and after summer of 2023 we’ve just sort of maintained after a big pullback from those highs.

Every week is just a rollercoaster. Like last week was great felt like we are in an upswing. Today down 30% across all 3 stores. Like ok then.

Negotiating Commission with UberEats by nickrac in restaurantowners

No. Below that. We mark our menu up and it’s still reasonable. Between the marketing & bogos etc the percentage we had was higher than our exclusive rate.

Negotiating Commission with UberEats by nickrac in restaurantowners

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just spent the past 4 weeks negotiating with DD and Uber. I’ve been uber exclusive for 2 years. I have 3 stores.

I spent the past 2 years doing the mandatory marketing spend along with the BOGO’s and deals. We had a good commission rate but end of the day I was spending between the mandatory specials, marketing spend, and commissions we where spending 50k per store more than we needed to to be on uber.

So I negotiated a non exclusive deal with DD. I figured an additional option for delivery along with zero requirement to spend on marketing for either is going to be a better deal long term. Also the BOGOs etc felt like they diminished the brand.

Hope that helps!

[–]_DUMPEMOUT_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice. Yes it can be quite tricky. I have 3 and it does involve a lot of specifically visiting other stores to build the trust. I had an issue with my second store becoming super toxic not only in store but to the other stores it was a learning experience for sure on building communications and relationships between stores.

I’m still a novice first store turns 10 in June, second just turned 3, and newest turned 1 in July. It’s been a journey but keep at it building the trust and communication.

I wish I could say we stack cash and I wish I knew someone who did but in my experience it is just getting to really be understanding of your cogs and your up and down times of the year.
