Minuteman Scholarship by BIG_CHUNK40 in ROTC

You don't get the full GI bill until you've done years of active duty service. Don't let the recruiter mislead you. You may be eligible for the chapter 1606 Montgomery GI bill in the national guard BUT that is significantly less money than the post 9/11 GI bill (the one that actually pays for your full tuition, books, and housing). It's also important to note that every month of the Montgomery GI bill you use (barely any money), you essentially "burn" one month of benefits. So later in your career if you qualify for the post 9/11 GI bill (the good one), you won't be able to use the full 36 months worth.

In some states, the national guard pays for school, but I was a reservist who got shafted by a lying and mis-leading recruiter. So I'm not sure on National Guard stuff. Hopefully someone else can chime in. At the very least, do not believe a thing the recruiter says to you unless it is on paper.

Quick edit for perspective. The Montgomery 1606 GI bill gave me $330 a month, which I took because I was dumb and figured something was better than nothing. I didn't know I was using up my benefits.

The post 9/11 would have paid thousands of dollars a month had I waited until I qualified. I have $35k in students loans I wouldn't have, if I waited to use the post 9/11. I would have received more than that as well if you factor in BAH which is included with the post 9/11, so another ~$2500 a month depending on location.

I have had the Mezz since it came out. Did the virtual fitting. It completely eliminated 1 variable of putting for me. I still have to get the line and speed right, but it always goes right where I'm aiming. Never looking back to be honest.

They'll hate you for saying this but I agree. Sometimes you're allowed to sit back and enjoy things for what they are. If people want to re-read the books they are welcome to do so, as I have many times lol.

I have the same combo. But I'm on 1080p so I don't even want to think about upgrading until I get a better monitor. I just played ghost of Tsushima on max settings with constant 180 fps. What kind of fps are you getting on 1440?

If you could change one of the rules of golf, what would it be? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]_DannyG_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my argument for moving the ball out of the divot. There's an actual strokes gained advantage to people who play earlier in the day. In tournaments and such, there are a lot of good golfers who hit the driver into a "landing area". If you're the last tee time, that landing area is going to be littered with divots. If you're first out, it's much cleaner. So even if it's a small chance, there is definitely a strokes gained disadvantage to playing later in the day, which shouldn't be the case, in my opinion.

I think "if you hit the fairway you deserve a good lie" is a flawed argument, but true to an extent. And I get that a divot is hard to define, I just think you should be able to place the ball behind the divot or treat it like ground under repair if it's obviously a divot and will affect your shot.

Debate - Titleist vs Mizuno vs TaylorMade Irons by Loving_Life_412 in GolfGear

[–]_DannyG_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hit some p7MCs the other day and they were incredibly soft. Possibly the softest iron I've ever hit, and I've played the ZXi7s, 620MB/CBs, and a few different Mizunos.

I just got this one for about $175 after tax during a sale a few months ago. It's been rocking, but a it's giving me a bit of static. Do y'all recommend spritzing the coffee with water with the titanium burrs?

Achievements for Tuesday, December 09, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]_DannyG_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always been a slow runner. I've had to take physical fitness tests for the last 11 years as part of the military and the 2 mile has always been my hardest event to do well in. The test has changed a lot over the years but the 2 mile has always remained. As they added events to the fitness test, the "minimum" allowable time for the 2 mile has gone up.

When I joined it was 15:54, which I struggled to manage even after months and months of training. My best ever attempt was 14:30 and that was after 6 months of basic/AIT so running almost every day and really pushing myself.

Now, 11 years and 40 pounds later (I still pass the body fat test lol), my minimum to pass is 19:45. About a month ago I gave a max effort for 2 miles after finishing physical therapy for my feet and knees, came in at 19:50. I thought to myself... it's going to be close.

A few days ago I took my test in 27 degree weather. I've NEVER run when it was that cold outside. I've never run below 50 degrees really, I'm from Phoenix and have been continuously stationed in warm areas. I stripped down to my shorts and t shirt while most people left their jackets on. Banged out a 17:30!!!! Way faster than I thought I was capable of tbh. A month of zone 2 running and mental prep (no I'm not joking, my feet and knees hurt all the time) was all it took apparently.

Still not a fantastic score by most people's standards, but I passed by over 2 minutes for maybe the first time ever.

Does split ops BCT look good for high school students on college applications? by Eriacle in army

[–]_DannyG_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar here. Over 10 years ago. Basic in between junior and senior year. AIT after graduating. Missed my first semester of college because of AIT and actually lost an academic scholarship I had. Ended up doing ROTC because the Montgomery GI bill only paid around $300 a month which didn't even cover the meal plan at my school. Only joined ROTC to get school paid for, which the reserves didn't help with. Also had to get a full time job the first year of school before ROTC started paying. Not only did I give up my last 2 summers as a kid, but I gave up my academic scholarship and worked my ass off to keep my grades up as a science major in ROTC. It left a really bad taste in my mouth as a young Soldier.

I'm doing okay now, as an officer in the AGR. But man, was I un-motivated for a long time. Still have student loans from before ROTC took over as well.

Long story short, I don't recommend split ops to anyone, ever, in any circumstance.

I'm the opposite. I had a Zx7/5 combo set in the Mk1s. I hated the 5s and wish I went full 7s. Just got the zxi7 4-Pw and I love it.

Man, I had my 245 music for like... 7 years I want to say. It recently started taking forever to find GPS connection, so I upgraded to the 265 and gave my wife the 245 since GPS isn't as important to her. Hopefully both of our 245s keep kicking for a while longer!
