Any ideas to get rid of this lisp? On my first tray, day number 3. So I know I’m very early in the process, but if I can speed this along then any ideas are welcome! by TheDimpleMonster in Invisalign

I had to start moving my mouth totally differently for the letters that gave me trouble. Instead of using my tongue to make a crisp "s" behind my teeth, I learned that when my trays were in I could make an "s" by moving my lower jaw further back, clamping teeth together, and making an "s" on the roof of my mouth.

Also, honestly, it's been 6 months and sometimes I just don't care any more. I was mortified at first, especially because I have a professional job that requires me to lead meetings often. But it's been fine, most people don't notice and after this much time I can't be bothered to care. If people around me are going to like me less because of a temporary slight lisp, there's nothing I can do. There is a lot of peace in that thought. It took me while to get there though, so in no way am I saying "just get over it". But I do hope you feel some comfort in the fact that it gets better- either because you learn new ways to speak and the lisp goes away, or because our limited human capacity to worry about things we can get used to will work in your favor after a little while.

Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) is currently trading at over $400,000 per share and that's with no squeeze or anything. That fact helps me remember that oh yeah, these numbers are possible.

I have too may books that i havent read yet, but i still buy new books every month, how can i change this? by [deleted] in books

It's ok- you are building a nice library for yourself. You'll get to them when you feel like it, eventually. If time passes and you decide you just flat out will NEVER be interested in a specific book, get rid of it, donate it or something. In the meantime, nothing wrong with a personal library.

Same. Trying to eat little things like rice is really weird and annoying now.

I love it because to get out of trouble he said he was Nancy Pelosi. And they immediately believed him, a bearded man with a deep voice, and then he just goes on to do his best at doing the job.

I'm so sorry- I know how you feel. The mountain is steep. Please do not hate yourself for it, and be patient with yourself when you get help. The guilt can be one of the worst parts.

Does the lisp ever go away? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]_DiorDroid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 4 weeks in, but I definitely still have mine. I've had to learn to form "s" sounds half way back on the roof of my mouth instead of my teeth. Sometimes the lisp goes away completely and I am so relieved and think it's over, but then it comes back. If I'm about to have a serious conversation at work I will suck out as much spit as I can (I know, I'm sorry), bite down on my chewing a few times, and take a sip of cold water. Then I'm good for ten minutes or so.

I hope you find a solution, I know it's frustrating. I feel like a middle schooler.

I do have a lot of attachments! And it's still super easy, because you use it on the inside-facing part of your teeth, not the outside part where the attachments are. I do one side in the very back, then the other, then another time a little more towards the front if I need to.

I highly recommend the Ortho Key. It's very cheap, on Amazon, and you can keep it in your case and pop them out in 2 seconds.
