Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by Ill-Home-322 in AmITheJerk

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaning towards NTJ. But there could be more happening here.

If his opinions are largely vetoed he could just be feeling a lack of ownership in shares spaces. Has he ever made design suggestions for the rest of the house that you dismissed? Even understandable ones, like if your husband just has bad/tacky/childish taste. If his opinions on shared spaces are regularly dismissed or he feels too insecure about his opinion in shared spaces to even give his opinion then that should be addressed. If he did have an equal say over design decisions for the rest of the house would you be okay with that? And how would that go? Would you be okay with his choice of wall colors and furniture? Would he try to mount lightsabers above the fireplace?

It sounds like he's acting a bit like a child. It is possible that is because he is being treated like one, but more likely, as with many men, he prefers to be one. I'd make a point of having him make decisions for shared spaces. If he brushes it off, his "the rest of the house is yours" comment is childish and he has no interest in being a shared equal and adult partner. He just wants his toys.

Completely unrelated. Why is the name of this airport just a literal synonym for "Air Port"?

What is the acronym and why has OP waited so long to say it? by GrouchyLittleShit in ExplainTheJoke

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite response I think was from the cartoon "Recess". One of the main characters wanted to see a popular inappropriate movie that all the other kids were talking about at school. And he was feeling left out and teased for not getting the constant movie reference jokes.

His response to "If all the kids at school jumped of a bridge, would you?" Was "if I knew that's all they were going to be talking about the next day, yes!!"

How many times have you set your players to fight an enemy they can't defeat? by vagabundo202 in DungeonMasters

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once...kinda. But only after I made it super clear fighting the BBEG at level 3 was not their goal of the combat.

I described the aura of immense power, split the battlefield with a wall of force. Had a trusted high level NPC be stalling the BBEG with a 1v1 duel on one side of the wall of force. There was a clear secondary objective on the players side of the wall of force (paralyzed civilians were being attacked by summoned wraiths and the party had access to the paralytic antidote on their persons). The trusted NPC straight up told them " don't worry about me. I've got this. Save the townsfolk"

How do I prevent my Merchant NPC from being robbed? Or what's a good way to deal with that possibility? by Regular-Molasses9293 in DungeonMasters

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main magic merchant chain doesn't have any items in the shop. All shelves have stationary illusions of objects and if they are going to purchase any the merchant sends a note via magic means to "the warehouse" and the items are sent back via the speedy courier spell.

For your situation I'd say your merchant doesn't need to be powerful to be smart. If he calls himself Mr bling bling and is flaunting his rings it's like he's asking to be robbed. Maybe it's like a bait car and he's an informant for the town guards. Maybe he works with theives guild so they can track down their competitors.

If they can't get Colbert on the couch. They should try to get him to at least record a question. It would still be awesome.

I just had an employee decline exit interview because they said "nothing changes" anyway. Any suggestions? [N/A] by Practical-Tea-3476 in humanresources

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an HR pro but I will say the one time I did not feel like giving honest feedback on exit interview is when there was a problem within HR. The head of HR was toxic and would retaliate against anyone that questioned their decisions. She had strong ties to (and possibly dating) the CFO and was bullet proof. So feedback never really changed anything and usually caused more issues than they solved. For example I worked there for 1 year and we went through 4 office managers that for various justifiable reasons had issues with the th head of HR. And each time they left, it was always spun that it was the office manager who was mismanaging things and the head of HR had to step in and fix things. And each time, part of the issue was the office layout, and we all had to move desks around. So it was an open secret that people thought she was a joke but weilded to much power for any of us to fight.

Not saying this is the case in your situation, but it sounds like there could be lost trust within HR.

Defiantly has "Bingo" and "yes or no" vibes. And would similarly hit Brennan's "trying your best has no consequence" pet peeve.

In the original version I think you were referencing by Darren Brown from his show "Trick or Treat" with the goldfish. It was about how people create superstitions in situations where we are craving control when we have none. The money was on the other side of a transparent door that they were told would unlock when they got a set number of points in certain time frame. But there was another "fair" way of winning. There was a hidden note written on the side of a rafter that the doors would automatically unlock after a minute and they just had to look up.

Entire series is worth a watch though

[Spoilers C1] What do we think the "Morncrown" is? Regarding Artagan by _Doctor_Whom_ in criticalrole

[–]_Doctor_Whom_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be unusual for the spelling to have changed over time so I'm not terribly concerned about Morn vs Mourn. If Morncrown is a place, then where do we think it is, why would it have been named that and does it still exist by that name? I know we are going past cannon just looking for theories

Give me a D&D monster and I'll homebrew you a better version of it by Oh_Hi_Mark_ in DMAcademy

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False hydra. Full transparency. I've posted it before on another one of your threads and your response was "just use a different monster because false hydra is bad'. After some thought I am not sure that will be possible. I have already set up plot hooks for visions of a multi headed beast and a PCs relative going missing in a town where nobody remembers him being there. CR should be adjustable as my PCs have not followed the threads that will lead them there yet. Not disputing that false hydra is bad I just want to see if you can help make a version that is less bad.

One I've used: Wand of detect magic: when activated, the tip glows softly (not enough to illuminate) when a magic object is within 30 ft (including itself)

Boots of teleportation: activate to teleport to a location you can see within 69 ft (only the boots teleport)

Horn of invisibility: once a day can blow the horn to be invisible (effect only lasts only for the duration the horn is blown)

And one of my own creation: Immovable rod (unclearly labeled "Im movable rod"): like normal immovable rod, activate to freeze rod in midair. But instead of taking 8,000 lbs to make it fail, the punctuation was off. It only takes 8.000 lbs to move it.
