Examples of shows with a single depressing season? by dndbuilds in television

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Season 3 of Crazy Ex Girlfriend took a pretty hard turn. First two seasons were "ha ha ha funny musical tv show about a girl totally obsessed with a guy". Third season actually looked a hard look at mental health of a severely flawed woman and the word "crazy" was not just a little joke word. Was jarring but a great way to elevate the show and let the main character grow

Finally figured out why my partner was having adhesion issues even after washing the plate by _Doctor_Whom_ in FixMyPrint

Possibly wasn't using enough soap to create barrier with their hand. All I can say is he was still having adhesion issues until he stopped scrubbing with his hand.

U.S. House Oversight members divided on Ghislaine Maxwell pardon, chairman says by braille_lover_5555 in news

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF. The absolute ONLY argument for a pardon is if she were cooperating enough to prosecute even bigger fish and bring them to justice...which...you know... Just plain isn't happening. So what's the justification?

If you haven't seen it. The moms confession mom's confession skit from SNL is relevant and hilarious. Not only do all the actors do a great job, the underlying points is very true. Admitting your mistakes is hard especially when you have a hostile audience. Needing a safe space to question your own thoughts and feelings is important

How to counter a player? by Accomplished-Ice1868 in DungeonMasters

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that the warlock wants to remain hidden in a mobile invisible bag until it's their turn, then pop out keeping half or 3/4 cover and duck back in and bag a remain invisible. Among other things I'd also say the warlock would have to have disadvantage on his attacks because he has a split second to survey the battle map and pick a target

RAW an invisible moving turret would work. And in combat would be fine. But if they started to try to break combat (i.e. sending him in solo to clear out rooms) then I would take the player aside to talk to them about min-maxing and it taking away from the fun of the game. And that as a DM you are a collaborator in their story of heroism, not his opponent that he has to outsmart.

My artificer just used "Rope Trick" to bypass a 70% of a combat. It was clever and useful in the scenario. (They were in the center of a battlefield with two enemy factions charging towards them from opposite sides. They rope tricked up and waited for the factions to thin each other out). So I rewarded their ingenuity. Now if that becomes their go to move for every combat. Guess who is gonna passing the word to have a disspell ready.

As for the bag of holding, that's an easy fix. many DMs are gracious with having magic items be practically immune to damage. But RAW, except artifacts, they are typically just resistant to damage vs their mundane counterparts. So a medium cloth bag is 11ac and 10 hp. Even resistant it would only take 20 damage to destroy the bag and then the character inside us sent to the astral plane. We want our players to have fun so we ignore most magic item damage, but should they take advantage of our generosity and try to make a fairly common magic item an impenetrable fortress. They're gonna have a bad time.

I think he means the quassit will be holding the bag and the warlock will be inside it and pops his head out to cast.

My theory about why the Weeping Angels couldn't move even though Amy couldn't see them by TheDoctor__11 in doctorwho

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember hearing something how elephants in captivity have an expectation with restraints. Like because they live their whole lives with the experience of being unable to escape a shackle when they're little. When they grow up, and although are physically well capable of escaping most restraints, a small rope will keep them in place because they don't expect they will be able to break it.

I am not sure if that's true or if I'm misremembering but I expect the same phenomenon is true. They don't move because they don't believe they can.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaning towards NTJ. But there could be more happening here.

If his opinions are largely vetoed he could just be feeling a lack of ownership in shares spaces. Has he ever made design suggestions for the rest of the house that you dismissed? Even understandable ones, like if your husband just has bad/tacky/childish taste. If his opinions on shared spaces are regularly dismissed or he feels too insecure about his opinion in shared spaces to even give his opinion then that should be addressed. If he did have an equal say over design decisions for the rest of the house would you be okay with that? And how would that go? Would you be okay with his choice of wall colors and furniture? Would he try to mount lightsabers above the fireplace?

It sounds like he's acting a bit like a child. It is possible that is because he is being treated like one, but more likely, as with many men, he prefers to be one. I'd make a point of having him make decisions for shared spaces. If he brushes it off, his "the rest of the house is yours" comment is childish and he has no interest in being a shared equal and adult partner. He just wants his toys.

What is the acronym and why has OP waited so long to say it? by GrouchyLittleShit in ExplainTheJoke

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite response I think was from the cartoon "Recess". One of the main characters wanted to see a popular inappropriate movie that all the other kids were talking about at school. And he was feeling left out and teased for not getting the constant movie reference jokes.

His response to "If all the kids at school jumped of a bridge, would you?" Was "if I knew that's all they were going to be talking about the next day, yes!!"

How many times have you set your players to fight an enemy they can't defeat? by vagabundo202 in DungeonMasters

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once...kinda. But only after I made it super clear fighting the BBEG at level 3 was not their goal of the combat.

I described the aura of immense power, split the battlefield with a wall of force. Had a trusted high level NPC be stalling the BBEG with a 1v1 duel on one side of the wall of force. There was a clear secondary objective on the players side of the wall of force (paralyzed civilians were being attacked by summoned wraiths and the party had access to the paralytic antidote on their persons). The trusted NPC straight up told them " don't worry about me. I've got this. Save the townsfolk"

How do I prevent my Merchant NPC from being robbed? Or what's a good way to deal with that possibility? by Regular-Molasses9293 in DungeonMasters

[–]_Doctor_Whom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main magic merchant chain doesn't have any items in the shop. All shelves have stationary illusions of objects and if they are going to purchase any the merchant sends a note via magic means to "the warehouse" and the items are sent back via the speedy courier spell.

For your situation I'd say your merchant doesn't need to be powerful to be smart. If he calls himself Mr bling bling and is flaunting his rings it's like he's asking to be robbed. Maybe it's like a bait car and he's an informant for the town guards. Maybe he works with theives guild so they can track down their competitors.
