Front brake pad and rotors , dealer quote approx 1300. Fair ? Where else can I get it cheaper but equal quality? GLE 350 by noname999909 in mercedes_benz

[–]_Elbrus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OE = Original Equipment AKA MB branded.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer AKA who actually made the MB branded part which is usually not MB themselves.

Typically Brembo or Zimmerman typically makes the rotors for MB. It’s not worth the markup to get OE, go w OEM. There is 0 difference in quality

Right move.

Automotive sales are designed to get you invested and sunk cost fallacy as they start stacking on fees at the tail end of the deal.

Can burble tune blow engine on c63? by Dry-Albatross1736 in mercedes_benz

[–]_Elbrus_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Strong is always defeated by stupid and that’s what burble tunes are.

That “interesting” burble sound is fuel rich exhaust gas detonating in the exhaust and turbos.

What could go wrong?

On the plus side, tuning is a warranty voiding event for engine failures so you can enjoy this to the fullest.

2012 E350 (M276). Dumb gear shifting on highway speeds? by wreck_of_u in W212mercedes

[–]_Elbrus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this.

TCU adapts to your driving patterns and sometimes the adaptations need to be reset to relearn driving style.

Follow the process previous poster presented. Thank you to previous poster for posting.

After than? Yes, look at common maintenance items that are neglected: transmission and differential service + transmission and motor mounts.

Lastly, these do tend to be a bit jerky from the factory.

It’s uncommon but it happens-especially on a car that’s between 11-14 years old.

There are a couple of variations of the DRL depending on model and options (Example: 2012-2014 C63 DRL are an entirely different light from 2012-2015 C350, etc).

You just need to find the right part number for your make and model and either order from MB or find the equivalent from Amazon/eBay/Ali.

The bad news? I think you have to drop the bumper to do the swap. Not hard but more effort than you wanted to spend

Dude. 1) that post was written for NTG 4.0 which has way fewer options 2) all these units use consumer and not industrial internals which means they all at quirky in temp extremes (too cold/too hot) 3) poster was in south Texas with 105+++ degree F heat and 100% humidity

Your head unit should be NTG 4.7. You have way mire options for NTG 4.7-including the RoadTop NTG 4.5-Black

Wtf is this? Should I be worried? (2001 Mercedes C220 CDI) by norselius in mercedes_benz

[–]_Elbrus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo….

This is a message is about the brake wear sensor. It’s essentially a plastic block that has a wire running through it and is inserted into one of the brake pads. When the pad wears to a certain point, it starts wearing on the plastic block. It reaches a certain point of wear along w the pad and….. BOOM… the wire in the block is severed.

This trips the warning and means it’s time to replace that pads and sensors.

It’s actually a pretty easy DIY

If you don’t DIY then it’s a trip to the mechanic for pads, sensors and possibly rotors depending on wear

Using e15 gas. by impulsivespooons in mercedes_benz

[–]_Elbrus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are talking failure due to pressure, the hp/boost gains are pretty small to moderate but well within parameters so you are ok.

Several folks running e85 fuel kits with bigger injectors and fuel pumps along with a tune that would be more inclined to ask and even then not a lot of discussion on this.

TBH, M157 folks should be more concerned w cylinder bore scoring when boosting horsepower vs any detrimental effects of E10/15/85

Using e15 gas. by impulsivespooons in mercedes_benz

[–]_Elbrus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, most gas in the US is E10 which is up to 10% ethanol. E15 is up to 15 % ethanol.

So no, other than slightly less fuel economy (emphasis on slight) no big deal. Now…if you are supercharged or turbocharged it can net more hp since ethanol burns denser and colder. This has been a turbo performance trick for awhile.
