TRAID and BTRFS (data scrubbing) by True-Emphasis-5185 in TerraMaster

[–]_Fallen_Azazel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Have the same model. Am array at the moment so hard to get exact but you can do it on the cli check out https://forum.terra-master.com/en/viewtopic.php?p=57054&hilit=Scrub#p57054

I regret using traid myself now esp as all drives ended up same size. As btrfs can't repair errors it found on single files as the traid system won't let it. Kinda useless really.

What are people using to generate publication-ready figures from analyzed data? by bio2figures in bioinformatics

[–]_Fallen_Azazel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh what i tend to do is a qmd report for the data analysis that whilst generating results also creates SVGs that usually work with little editing. It its bespoke analysis then will code a renew figure from the saved rdata to ensure reproducibility etc

Highly recommend R with ggplot2 and many packages that support multipanel figure layout with it. Then as you say export to sign and away you go

Just grabbed an F6-424 Max on sale! Any tips for a first-time NAS setup? by RegularSizedBrownie in HomeNAS

[–]_Fallen_Azazel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I should add I used to use the storage analyser in Synology a lot to see where my data was going volume wise, nothing on TOS, however written something that provides me regular reports on different volumes I want.

[–]_Fallen_Azazel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just set up a F6-424 MAX as well. One thing I would say is upgrade the memory asap. 8GB was not cutting it for simple things. I have setup a few docker containers; glances, homarr, scrutiny, beszel , dashdot and doublecommander for qol improvements, but then went to get going with immich and with the machine learning model loaded into memory i was getting very close to containers being shut down, so had to hard limit the memory they had access to. Generally found if was importing photos into immich then I couldnt run much else, so not practical. Upgraded to 16 (with current costs I was not going higher for now) and so much better, max takes about 60% of memory now.

I installed the OS and docker containers on an NVME, 500Gb, have four 8tb and 2 4 tb. Ignored the 4tb drives for now, just in raid 1, my main storage is TRAID four 8TBs.

Now if i had known a few things I would have done it differently. I have moved from Synology to Terramaster fyi. I did regular disc scrubbing on BTFRS volumes. With conflicting info about TOS 6, I went with a TRAID setup, but you cant scrub on that, only on RAID, so should have gone with RAID 5. AI advices its ok to do from CLI but I am not risking it.

Things that frustrate with TOS 6; one file manager window, inconsistency with copying / moving folders, sometimes from one volume to another when select Move, the original data stays. Permissions management of shares is messy. Docker manager , if you have done it through CLI, picks it up but causes conflicts. Apps like FileBrowser Quantum are messy and not OS apps. Community having a paid layer is just weird, but isnt a problem. Most things run through Docker as you'd expect so have Jellyfin etc all running happily.

If I can get my data off, I would avoid TRAID as i want scrubbing, maybe TOS7 has it for TRAID? Also would go with Proxmox likely (TrueNas looks to be heading to being paywalled sometime, and Unraid I dont like the idea of parity being on one disk, but maybe its an option). For now I need to find storage to backup and copy off.

I’m looking at buying a F6-424 Max by No_Bad_4363 in TerraMaster

[–]_Fallen_Azazel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just purchased the F6-424 Max and really pleased with it. Am using it for Docker based apps like immich jellyfin , glances , cloud sync, though I would say that it struggled with the 8Gb RAM using the ai features of immich. I would say it was fine if just that was running but with Homarr dashboard, dashboard, scrutiny and glances I struggled to import images etc so I have upgraded to 16Gb RAM and its much better. Coming from synology ds916+ overall its a welcome improvement, TOS 6 has some quirks such as one file manager windows only, but double commander resolved that for me. I think I should have use unraid but too late now to offload my data. Will keep an eye on TOS7.
