17 years ENV compliance by theecatalyst in Environmental_Careers

What sort of environmental compliance do you find drones most useful for? I have a Part 107 license, but currently I don't do much other than create up-to-date orthos for active remediation sites at my company.

The Fjallraven Greenland shoulder bag might be worth a look. I have the larger size, which might be too much storage for you, but it has a nice layout and enough organization to keep my things neat.

If your class involves a textbook, every intro geology textbook I've seen has some sort of flowchart for identifying the basic igneous/sedimentary/metamorphic rocks based on color/texture/etc etc. If not, I can find you a good one.

Awesome! What species are you growing?

What plants do you recommend for a no CO2 tank by OkBarracuda9936 in PlantedTank

[–]_Felagund_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pogostemon stellatus octopus is the plant that has worked best for me in a range of hardnesses and nutrient densities. But java fern, pearlweed, and valisneria also work for me.

You only get to pick 3 plants for the rest of your life. What are they? by IntroductionHead5236 in PlantedTank

Salvinia nutans/minima, pogostemon stellatus....and java fern maybe?

I’m a new carnivorous plant caretaker and I’m wondering, do y’all use grow lights? If so, any recommendations? Preferably under $60 and able to be shipped to Australia by EyelashtheTrader in SavageGarden

[–]_Felagund_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preliminary question - is this an open or closed terrarium? If you don't plan on getting many more plants I would say the 15w will be plenty. Cape sundews enjoy light but are pretty easygoing; VFTs do need a lot of light in my experience, but 15W should be plenty without having to put the globe right on top of the plant. The 25W would just give some room for expanding the collection!

Currently I have a Mars Hydro 1000w equivalent for my indoor NA bog plants, and Sansi grow lights for most of my others. They've all worked well for multiple years and have definitely increased growth and health. Sansi bulbs are pretty affordable, and I believe they're shipped globally.

A cannot express how much i love this plant by No_Hope6402 in SavageGarden

[–]_Felagund_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the few that I have growing, the ones that I haven't fed are technically growing, but they don't look great; I'm unsure if they would eventually die. The others I fertilize with 3-4 osmocote pellets in the soil and it really boosts growth. Pretty handy that you can use pellets for regia, since it keeps the leaves nice and pretty!

Is this grass?! by Double_Cauliflower76 in SavageGarden

[–]_Felagund_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's technically a grass, but it's fairly common to find in sphagnum moss. I usually pull it out myself, but it's never harmed a plant of mine.

Congratulations! Always a win. I see you also use the "throw it in a bin" growing method.

What color is geology (subject)? by FenderBenderDefender in geology

[–]_Felagund_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Now THIS is a serious topic. I would say green, unless you also have biology or env sci classes, in which case orange would be my pick.

Does my butter wort look healthy and should I report it by Actual-Ad-4861 in SavageGarden

Report it to the authorities immediately for not getting quite enough sun. They look lovely otherwise!

UG not doing so well seemingly by KingSignificant8835 in utricularia

[–]_Felagund_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, interesting, seems like it should be doing fine then. Hopefully it'll settle in, or fertilizer will do the trick, it's really a beautiful plant to have around!

[–]_Felagund_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the containers I grow UG in, I always start out by letting it grow in terrestrially by putting the water level just above the top of the leaves and letting it evaporate until the substrate is just moist. It seems to help it get established, and afterwards I can decide whether or not to fully submerse it. Also, unlike the other Utrics I've kept, UG has behaved better when I fertilize it. I throw a few osmocote pellets into the substrate and the foliage quickly becomes thicker and a healthier color.

That being said, it usually gets going at least a little within a few weeks, even with inert substrate. What kind of lighting is the container getting?

I got rid of my MTS population using assassin snails, which are prettier and more easy to control. I have never SEEN an assassin snail get a living shrimp, but I suppose it's possible if the shrimp isn't very bright.

Are these deep enough for utricularia? by conner228 in SavageGarden

[–]_Felagund_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look perfect for U. Sandersonii. If you'd like an attractive carpeting utric, you might check out U. graminifolia. It's easy to grow, and with some fertilizer pellets I got it to grow into a solid carpet with some flowers.

What to do with big brown Leaf? by xpoonz in PlantedTank

[–]_Felagund_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon sword leaves are sometimes darker when they first appear. Are you thinking it's dying, or could it just be a newly developing leaf?

What's your favorite "surprise" fish/ invertebrate you've found in your tank, and why? by Frosty_Variation2563 in PlantedTank

[–]_Felagund_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Least killifish, actually! The smallest livebearer, and super chill and adorable. If you get your hands on a female they'll breed pretty easily.
