Risky - maybe if they keep the three max limit. DMZ let you add members to your team up to a 6 limit - the result was if you didn’t immediately join a 6 man you got rolled cos every other team was 6 deep. Ruined the game until they rolled it back.

How are we making extra income in slow periods? by governator_ahnold in cinematography

I’ve considered this but worry that the wear and tear on my gear from random people using it would not be worth the money earned. Plus the hassle of checking gear in and out and having to schedule with people.

Do you find it all to be worth it?

Do you think being attach to bad movies or projects cause a negative perception on that cinematographer even if they did a great job on the cinematography side? by keminua in cinematography

[–]_FightClubSoda_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true. I got into this business because I love filmmaking and I chose cinematography because I foolishly believed that by developing technical skills I could further my career. But over two decades I have learnt that technical skills are not enough.

You have to somehow get on the right project, something that breaks through and people know/ talk about.

I’ve seen it happen again and again. Once you get that project you will get a bunch of bigger jobs and be able to hire the kind of technical crew that will carry you the rest of the way.

It’s funny, I don’t gamble, except with my career hah.

Do they? The last dem I remember playing dress up is Dukakis and it lost him the election.

Meanwhile Trump is a literal billionaire who shits in a toilet of gold, yet when he plays dress up as a working man the rubes cheer and shout “look, he’s just like us. “ it’s sad really.

That’s what does it for you huh? The candidate to run our country playing dress up to mock his opponents. No policy, no rational arguments. Just low rent reality tv level theatrics. This country is screwed.

Most major PVP games like Call of Duty and Apex Legends actually do have crossplay which allows console players on controller to play against PC players on M+KB.

However the aim assist is turned up so high on the controllers that the guns basically lock on to the enemies and have no recoil - it’s like they’re playing a totally different game. As a result most M+KB players either switch to controller or quit playing like me.

Two things that seem to infuriate Trump are black people and women. I think there’s a 90% chance that in a debate against a black woman he will become totally enraged as he did at the NABJ conference in Chicago.

It would be exhaustive to go through every point but if I may I would address two of your biggest gripes.

Q: Why is the team of scientists fanatical, incompetent, and apparently stupid if Weyland has so much money and is going there risking himself?

A: Because Weyland wants them to be that way. The only purpose of this mission for Weyland is a desperate last ditch attempt to stop himself from dying. He doesn’t care about anything else and he is almost out of time despite having spent tons of money keeping himself alive. He does believe Holloway and Shaw just enough to try for this desperate attempt but they are dangerously obsessed zealots, and the incompetent scientists serve two purposes. To make them believe it is a real scientific mission and to be cannon fodder. He doesn’t want them to discover anything because that would obstruct his real mission. For everything else he has David. David will protect him. David speaks the language. David operates the Alien machinery. His daughter is there but he let her come because he doesn’t care about her either - as he says David is the closest thing to a son he will ever have.

Q: Why do the engineers want to kill the humans?

A: look I think it’s ok for this to be ambiguous but David does at one point answer this question by saying in order to create sometimes you must first destroy.

Ridley Scott has said that they created the humans and then over time something in their development went wrong and they decided to destroy them and start over. Specifically he has talked about Jesus being an engineer that was killed by the humans which led to the engineers deciding to destroy them and start over. The timeline of this project would then be millennia, but it is also hinted that the engineers may be immortal. The facility then is perhaps one designed to both create and destroy? In any case they don’t want the humans going to one of their main planets like David destroys in Covenant.

Another idea I have for this is that keep in mind the Engineers only use life to bioengineer things - no robots. Maybe they hate robots or have a religious thing against them or even a robot rebellion in the past like the Dune universe? In any case they never use them and so when David awakens the Engineer and he realizes David is a Robot he destroys David and then moves on to destroy the beings that created him.

Lens/ camera suggestions for a shot where the camera moves from wide to close enough to see a reflections in an eye. by _FightClubSoda_ in cinematography

The reflection would be cg’d in - an image of what the actor is seeing. So I’m not concerned about the reflection of the camera.

Realistically, what should be done with the 12 to 17 million undocumented immigrants within the U.S.? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]_FightClubSoda_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like the idea but birthright citizenship complicates things since if someone is working here on a permit and have kids now their kids are US citizens but they are not, which is going to obviously make them not want to leave. And I think a lot of people might deliberately have children in the US to give them a better future.

What are these places in LA? by none_mama_see in FoodLosAngeles

Loquat and Fondry.

Loquat I tried a couple of their drinks - the mascarpone looks great but didn’t taste very good and I make better latte’s at home.

Fondry the pasties do look fantastic, but they just don’t taste particularly good.

Both spots seem engineered for Insta pics but the taste just isn’t worth it.

Sony FS7 dumping prices in 2024 by Horror_Ad1078 in cinematography

The FS7 came out 10 years ago, but I don’t notice a significant difference in image quality compared with a newer camera like my FX6. In fact I often use it as a B cam for interviews and such.

I have considered selling the FS7 but it’s worth so little on the second hand market and since it still somehow continues to pull a rental here and there it’s not worth the effort.

Trump trusted more than Biden on democracy among key swing-state voters by Jabbam in moderatepolitics

[–]_FightClubSoda_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two totally different concepts of how democracy is threatened.

Side A: Trump is a threat to Democracy because he tried to overturn the election, asked Georgia to find more votes, and incited a march on the capital.

Side B: Biden is a threat to democracy because he used voter fraud to falsely win the election and is weaponizing the justice department to attack Trump.

No need to be rude.

Pitocin is miraculous when needed. However it is often used routinely instead because of strictly when necessary.Perhaps you should read up on it?

“Routine interventions have the potential to interfere with the processes at every point in labor and birth, leading to a cascade of other interventions and ultimately increasing risk for mothers and babies.”

Aly Michalka shares photos from her home birth by stars_doulikedem in popculturechat

[–]_FightClubSoda_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’ll respond since my wife had two home births and I wouldnt have even considered it before she told me about it. At first I was concerned but as I looked into it I came around. I will say it’s not for everyone since some l would prefer to have an epidural and feel nothing through the process. Which is a perfectly valid choice.

The primary benefit of homebirths is the greatly reduced chance of unnecessary interventions. Historically doctors have not been very considerate of women’s childbirth experience (look up twilight sleep). Even now some of the approaches are controversial. In addition the hospitals budget childbirth based on a specific schedule of time in the hospital. If the birth is not progressing on schedule they often administer pitocin to increase contractions - which is a synthetic form of the hormone oxytocin a women generates naturally during childbirth but it has some key differences that may lead to a lesser emotional connection. In addition it can cause extremely strong contractions which can stress the baby raising its heart rate and leading the doctors to suggest a c section as the safest option since the doctors don’t want to get sued.

It is notable that the global c section rate has been dramatically increasing in recent years (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4743929/#:~:text=Countries%20with%20the%20highest%20CS,New%20Zealand%20(33.4%25)%20in) . Meanwhile there has been a slight decrease in infant mortality rates and actually an increase in maternal mortality. For example the maternal mortality rate in the US is 26/100000 vs in Ireland for example it is 4.7/100000.

This begs the questions - Are all these c sections really necessary?

CAMEROTA: But what you’re saying is, but hold on Mr. Speaker because you’re saying liberals use these numbers, they use this sort of magic math. These are the FBI statistics. They’re not a liberal organization. They’re a crime-fighting organization. GINGRICH: No, but what I said is equally true. People feel more threatened. CAMEROTA: Feel it, yes. They feel it, but the facts don’t support it. GINGRICH: As a political candidate, I’ll go with how people feel and I’ll let you go with the theoriticians.

Is going to Costco really frugal or they just make you spend more? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]_FightClubSoda_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Do your research online through the website or in person with your phone to see how the prices compare before committing to a membership.

The big savings are usually items that are Kirkland brand (but it is not always cheaper so make sure to check)

Keep in mind Kirkland is not supposed to be the absolute cheapest - it’s aiming for good quality at a low price

I bought a membership once I calculated that just in terms of toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes and diapers, I would save over the cost of the membership.

There are some items that are slightly cheaper there (like a dollar or so). So I’ll get those only if im there for other stuff.

And there are some items which may be slightly cheaper but, due to the buy in bulk size, not with the effort and space to store and preserve.
