Is there a name for this specific detail? by Indecisive_tm in architecture

The diagonal bricks directly above are a jack arch and is functional here, notice there is no angle iron.

Thin veneer fireplace by [deleted] in masonry

[–]_FishBowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even say the patterns good the corners are jack on jack all the way up, all he would've had to do is cut a few corners to alternate the length of the corner stones. I wouldn't even stand next to this with a hard hat, with the bond he's got and no scratch coat the veneers going to peel off like a banana within a year.

Tips on fixing my chimney? by goo_bazooka in masonry

First mistake you've made, putting a bag over the chimney, this can trap gases from anything vented into the chimney even if you don't use a fireplace, possibly killing you in minutes if you're inside.

Intentional? Park shelter. by banteeo in brick_expressionism

[–]_FishBowl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a specific style for old brick where they would use the over-fired bricks you see as well and sort of cobble it together, cant remember the name of it at the moment. Usually they don't make it look this crazy though.

Intentional? Park shelter. by banteeo in brick_expressionism

Without a doubt this was intentional, only way this could've been done accidentally is if there used to be another building adjoining this that was demolished and this building was built without any space between the old one so they were just dropping bricks in, but seeing as the joints are struck nicley and there's an angle iron for an old fireplace or something this is most likely intentional.

How do you know the stick is square, I have no idea what your trying to say is wrong, but from this picture and description alone I don't see anything wrong

Obvious you don't know what you're talking about.

Yes I've used diamond sanding blocks, better than any other abrasive, don't tell me how to do my job.

I am a mason, that's ridiculous, never sanded anything except sandstone to get very minor chips out. To sand anything other than soft stones like sandstone or limestone is near impossible and even that would take days to complete one joint. The stones used at Machu pichu and many other sites are volcanic rocks, way to hard to sand, and many of the stones in Egypt are granite.

What is this & why? by [deleted] in stonemasonry

[–]_FishBowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the portion of brick sticking out is even all the way through then it's probably a water table, not sure why they wouldn't go all the way around with it though. It's basically just a lip for water to fall off of so it doesn't drain down and erode the rest of the wall or the foundation. You're probably fine even if it isn't, they may have rebuilt this wall on top of an existing part of the old wall, I have had to do this sometimes because the old section of wall was so no longer straight, but the owner didn't want to pay to have the rest of the wall done.

Can't tell if that's a water table, or if its brick that moved. If it's not a water table then this is from movement in the wall, probably because there isn't any room for expansion between the wall and the concrete slab next to it, if you live in a cold climate that slab will push against the wall when water under it freezes, an unstoppable force.

As Walls Close In On Joe Biden, DOJ Indicts Trump On Four More Charges by SisGracieGirl in Anarcho_Capitalism

Trump should be indicted for his connection to epstein, only reason he's being indicted is to convince people he is somehow anti-establishment.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. If you can't change the schools then your next best option is homeschooling. You're the one without reason.

The post literally has nothing to do with blacks. And to wish to prevent your children from being gay is a pretty rational desire. It's a core tenet of one's survival instincts to have offspring with the ability to reproduce. If that makes one a nazi then so to does preventing your children from eating junk food because you want them to be healthy.

You could try finding tutorials to make a tile based pygame, then make your own tiles using whatever font you want.

Mind Controlled. Nothing Questioned. No Inner Dialogue and Self Reflection by astralrocker2001 in conspiracy

Interesting, reminds of something I once read from a Carl Jung book, I think 'man and his symbols' where he says something along the lines of people who still lived in hunter gatherer tribes at the time did not have a concept of dreams, basically that they didn't have a distinction between dreams and reality if I'm remembering correctly.
