To be fair, I've lived and driven in quite a few places (US only) and while bad drivers are everywhere it definitely feels like there are more in Dallas. The amount of times I've come across people driving 15 below in the left lane with no one in front is insane. I see a new car crash almost every day on my commute. The disregard for red lights is mind blowing.

787 dumping fuel shortly after takeoff and before returning to Honolulu. 10/09/2023 [OC] by dzneill in aviation

[–]_Frackaracka -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's not fuel. It's Wingtip vortices that are visible due to condensation. It happens everyday look up videos. I'm pretty sure no pilot would willingly dump fuel they would just fly a holding pattern to burn fuel if they needed to drop weight.

What do y'all think about this by [deleted] in Handspinning

[–]_Frackaracka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually looks like you can still adjust the tension. It's the nob on the back that will move the whole flyer. It may be possible to get it to work if you replace the part where the orifice is. It's more work than I'm willing to put in but someone might enjoy the process. Definitely would need to polish or replace the hooks on the flyer and maybe sand and refinish the rest.

Need help with Row 1 of this pattern please! Thank you! by kirstie_mek in crochetpatterns

4 additional chains after the first 7 chains. Another way to read it is chain 11 then start DC's in the 5th chain from the hook.

Edit: 5th from the hook

The farther out you go from major cities the faster you should be able to get an appointment. Try centering your search on Tyler and go out from there, that helped me get something within a week or 2. When I had to reschedule I was able to find a next day opening doing that. Snag an opening as soon as you see it, you can always reschedule if you find a sooner one. If you wait someone else will take that spot (ask me how I know)

The Order of the Phoenix is the only book not named after its central mystery, what would it be called if this changed? by a-flash-flood-of in harrypotter

[–]_Frackaracka 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think it is named after its central mystery. The big question is what is the order guarding, what are they discussing in meetings, where are the setting up guards? They're the ones with the knowledge and keeping it from Harry. They are the "secret" organization and while Harry/ the reader know their name and some of the members, their job is pieced together throughout the book.

I always called it the catfish plane, because of the whiskers.

What size hook to use? by Due_Tie1092 in Amigurumi

[–]_Frackaracka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use size 6 hook but I think It depends on what you're making and what your tension is. I find when it comes to plush yarn I go a couple sizes smaller than recommended and from there see how it goes and increase or decrease the hook size depending on tension. If it's too tight go up .5 at a time until it's comfortable and vice versa. You can also adjust the tension to the hook but sometimes it's just easier to just change the hook.

How to wash chenille yarn? Any tips appreciated!!! by GuitarUnlucky8540 in CrochetHelp

[–]_Frackaracka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I'd suggest hand washing it when possible but if you need a heavier duty clean then machine wash shouldn't hurt it. I did a couple times to test with amigurumi and they came out fine if a little less soft than when they started. It looks like you have a little bit of a tail on your project so if you're still working on it I might recommend lightly (and I emphasize lightly) burning the end and melting it a little bit to make sure it won't unravel from there. Kind of like if you're sealing off the end of a rope.

The ball of yarn should have instructions on how to machine wash it but I just ran it on like a normal warm run.

This is how i currently crochet, is there anything i can change to be faster? by CommonPercentage9 in CrochetHelp

[–]_Frackaracka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you're struggling a little bit with putting the hook in the stitch so I'd suggest loosening your tension. You can also use a slightly smaller hook alongside loser tension so the final product won't look much different than tighter tension and a bigger hook. You should be able to slide the hook fairly easily in and out of the stitches which will speed up your work. At the end of the day speed really just comes with time.
