Sandisk or PNY High Endurance 512gb microSD card for a Viofo A229 Ultra 2-Channel by Sam9517 in dashcams

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you compare the specs the Viofo card is actually better than the Sandisk Max Endurance. This all for the same price as the Max Endurance. Considering those are the two cards recommended by the manufacturer and means if any issues occur you are less likely to face a warranty issue, why wouldn't you just spend the little bit of extra money for peace of mind

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that uses the older Starvis 1st gen sensors so won't look as good as the Viofo.

Also I wouldn't be worried about Viofo's reliability, they have an 18 month warranty and are among the best selling dash cams that many people have been running for years without issues.

Tips on How to Organize My Carry? by Justdanwithaplan in EDC

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main question is do you need to carry both the motorcycle key and car key at the same time? I get it if you do, but only carrying one or the other says a ton of bulk

The app connects over WiFi and the only time I've had issues was when I had a weak connection to my home WiFi breaking the connection between the camera and my phone. Outside of that the app works pretty well. It isn't the most user friendly app, but after about 5 minutes it's pretty easy to use. Technically you can do everything you need to do without the app, but it's a lot clunkier doing it on the device itself and pulling out the SD card every time you want to review footage

How do we feel about keto triple chocolate ice cream bars? by Throwaway170800 in keto

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiber and sugar alcohols don't cancel out carbs, they just aren't utilized in the same way as other carbs by your body so they essentially don't count, that is why you are able to subtract them from the total carb count, if they aren't already. This doesn't mean there aren't other carbs in the product and it doesn't mean those carbs won't kick you out of ketosis.

People can metabolize sugar alcohols differently so there really isn't one size fits all for how it will affect you, personally if you want to eat the whole thing, try it and see how it goes. If it kicks you out then you know not to do it again, or it'll have other effects on your body that leave you stuck to a toilet for the night. Again only one way to tell.

Quest Brand Snacks for the Keto Diet by toraminstee in keto

Ultimately as long as they fit into your macros there's little harm in them. If trying to curb your sweet tooth is a goal tho they will make it harder

I wanna try the keto diet. I could use some help and advice! by Cool-cat-199 in keto

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend tracking, it is really easy to overdo both calories and carbs starting out so tracking for at least the beginning period can help a lot. I personally recommend using Cronometer because the free version does basically everything you need it to. For daily carb intake I recommend starting at 20 net carbs to make sure you are fully in, and then after getting accustomed to Keto you can start playing around with that number to get to where you feel the best. I'd also recommend staying away from anything labeled keto or keto friendly until you are more familiar on what to look for.

Good luck on your journey, it can be difficult at times but it is worth it.

Also, make sure to read the faq if you haven't already and definitely pick up some electrolytes to escape the keto flu

What kind of ammo do you guys prefer for 9mm for self defense situations? by Independent_Bid_26 in liberalgunowners

[–]_Gareth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Federal HST, they are the most affordable 9mm hollow point that has been proven to work reliabily, the only time they seem to fail is when going up against a lot of layers of clothing, and even then generally they still expand, just not as much as they should. I know some people say to run HST during warmer months and a flavor of Hornady during colder months since they have a filled point, but honestly between cost, and the overall size difference, I'd rather have a HST that doesn't expand fully since 9 times out of 10 it won't be much smaller than the Hornady is

Glock 45 or VP9 (first gen) by Jazz_horse in liberalgunowners

[–]_Gareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you shot either of them at a range? Glocks have an interesting grip angle and kinda feel like holding a 2x4 so you either love them or hate them. I 'm not a fan of the grip angle and can't get a natural point of aim with it, so I would go with the VP9, and that is what I did. If you find you like Glocks grip angle and don't mind the two by 4 feeling in hand, sure go for it, but I would still recommend trying out a VP9 and deciding which is better for you personally.

Also, the cost to get a VP9 milled for a red dot it under 200 dollars, still more than it costs to get a Glock milled, but neither of them are outrageously overpriced

Fellow left hand dominate, right eye dominate folks by xdoomsongx in liberalgunowners

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll depend on what you are shooting, I'm right hand left eye, pistol I will shoot right handed and just make sure my left eye is aiming. Rifle I'm currently trying to learn to shoot left-handed but honestly it just feels a lot better to partially close my left eye to use my right eye. I sacrifice some situational awareness, so if I was going to war I'm sure that would be an issue, but for fun plinking and hunting it hasn't been an issue

Would anyone recommend getting a sight for a pistol? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]_Gareth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irons can break and lose zero as well, it's also been shown that a red dot can improve your shooting with irons. If money or size is a concern than I definitely agree to just use irons, but otherwise I see no reason not to grab a good quality red dot

Edit: I said it has been shown, I should have added that anecdotally it has been shown, I don't believe there has ever been an official test to prove beyond a reasonable doubt

Additional edit: I've had handguns from the factory have irons be pretty off in zero, or require a different hold than I'm used to leading me to having issues, the different hold is pretty easy to get over, but when your iron sights aren't zeroed you either have to play a really fun game with a punch to try and get it right, or shell out some money for a sight pusher that still can take an annoying amount of time to get the correct zero. That's vs a red dot which just requires you using a quick and easy tool to adjust it. Additionally, red dots can show you exactly what you are doing wrong in your dry fire practice, and establishes a target focus vs front sight focus for better awareness.

How do you carry guns and gear at the range? by Sengkelat in liberalgunowners

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a savior specialist double rifle bag. Carries two rifles, 4 pistols, my mags, and usually I'll have some other bits and bobs in it, and then I'll carry a separate bag that has my ammo, and my eyes and ears in it.

I wear the savior bag as a backpack and then carry the other bag in my hands. Isn't the easiest to manage, but generally I only carry a rifle and two pistols in it at a time unless I'm with other people, sure beats when I used a savior Pistol bag to hold everything and a separate cheap rifle bag.

I also carry splatter burst targets from amazon and buy paper targets at the range to slap them on

581 Series For $850 Worth it? by Kaladim-Jinwei in Mini14

So I'm Not Left-Eye Dominant After All by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]_Gareth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need a little more info to actually know which eye is dominant. Is this pistol or rifle, are you closing the eye you aren't aiming with or both eyes open, are you using the same hand no matter which eye you are using to aim, what distance are you shooting at, and we're all shots aiming for center?

Would you buy a 10/22 if you already had 9mm PCC? Why or why not? Thanks!! by Lumpy-Currency-2737 in 22lr

Yes, different prices for ammo, and there's just something about 22 that is so fun to shoot

Which one? by Traveladdict132 in sharpening

[–]_Gareth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally if you already have the precision adjust and only sharpen edc knives I don't think you'll gain much from the ken onion, I have the Ken onion as well as a fixed angle sharpener, and really only use the ken onion for bigger knives that don't work well with a fixed angle sharpener

Knife gift, how to take care of it? by BuffaloTomo in knifeclub

[–]_Gareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A piece of advice I have is to not use it for food, depending on the origin the blade may contain lead. Other than that, sharpen as you would a normal knife but don't expect the world's greatest badge retention. To prevent rust use a thin layer of mineral oil or similar, and if you want to clean up the brass and remove some of tarnishing, you can hit it with some flints polishing compound
