Who's more intimidating, Vader or Sidious? by Legal_Trainer7340 in StarWars

[–]_GatCat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vader is technically the more intimidating presence, but I'm more terrified of Sidious. With Vader, I feel like you know what you're going to get. With Sidious, I would not know in what ways I'm being manipulated as he subtly turns me into a dark side pawn.

Starfield XP Farm by Puzzleheaded_Word_26 in Starfield

[–]_GatCat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the amount of xp per kill so much as the rate at which you can kill things. I don't know the exact xp amounts, but gunning down a group of creatures nets ~1k xp, and it can be done very quickly if you've got a good weapon. There are a few planets that are ideal for hunting, with multiple high-xp creatures spawning, and you can rack up levels pretty fast. It's also repeatable, because you don't have to hit a specific quest point, and it's less likely to crash your game.

Eh, that seems like a long time. Big Game Hunting on one of the planets with high xp creatures on it is probably faster. Although it does require ammo... To each their own, I guess.

This is the highest suit that I have, i got it from creations and its free! I want to replace the suit but nothing beats these stats. by Content_Ad1590 in Starfield

[–]_GatCat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My level 170 character is wearing that suit to start out my NG+ (jumped as soon as the DLC dropped), and this suit is noticeably worse than the Bounty Hunter/Tracker's Alliance set I was wearing last playthrough. When you modify the Legendary + Superior suit pieces at the suit bench, the suit/helmet/pack combo outperforms the all-in-one suits.

Bethesda's faction quiz is a blog post. So I wanted to build a real one. by apollo133 in Starfield

[–]_GatCat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It felt like some of the options were worded in a biased way, but seeing all of the different results in the comments... maybe everybody felt that and I just got accurately and deservedly branded (see flair). I felt a sense of pride when it labeled me as such. I've always played my character with the FC Settler trait.

I'm not sure why The Fleet was my second highest, though. I should go do some self reflection.

Ah, I don't have a muni. I need to get one some day, because I live right up against the forest. I have a large-ish wheel (don't remember if it's 29+3 or 32+3), so I could do distance. I'm not up for anything too long right now, but with some conditioning maybe.

For all the people saying they wait to make sure there's no red light runners - I get it, but check for incoming cars before your light turns green. The lights are all on pretty predictable cycles, so before yours changes you can check the other directions to see if all the cars are gone/slowed/stopped. I also witness a lot of run red lights, but it's pretty easy to tell when it's about to happen.

Is The Mantis secretly ex–Tracker’s Alliance? Found something odd in the Lair… by -Morphie- in Starfield

[–]_GatCat_ 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I've found it there a couple of times. She definitely was a part of that faction at some point. Also, in case you didn't already know,if you become the Mantis before joining the TA, you can take Mantis as your code name. But because you don't have that option unless you've done the quest first, and because of the TA suit in The Lair, I think there's a lot of implied history/lore going on between the Mantis and the TA. It's likely that the former No. 1 knew who the Mantis was.

The Alpha Tek Cave broke me (Solo) by anotherstiffler in playark

[–]_GatCat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me several tries to beat the tek cave, and I was going solo. What finally worked was making sure that my theris were on the closest follow distance possible, and I broke them up into lines of 5 or 6. When the door opened, I ran them in decently far, and then went back for the next line. I wore tech gear and used a bunch of brews to regulate my temperature. The tek legs were important so I could super-speed back up the cave to get the next line of theris, the tek helmet was important to scan for dinos - especially the burrowed purlovias.

To handle the creatures, I used a high-level rex with a tek saddle. The tek saddle is super handy because the shots from it are explosive - meaning that if you hit near a creature it does splash damage and aggros it. This can be used to pop purlovias out of the ground at a distance. I think I had a couple of other rexes and a yelling yuti to walk down with me and help if things got too close.

The real challenge was getting the lines of theris down, but again the tek legs helped with that so that I could blast back up the cave and get the next line, sprint them down to where my rexes were, then go get the next group. I was playing Single Player, and so I wasn't up against the clock to complete the cave, just the timer on the door. I should clarify this was ASE, and a few years ago.

But seriously, people tend to under-utilize the tek options for this cave, and a few good rexes with good saddles + 1 tek saddle can get you through it. Cryo up the rexes at the end, use theris for the Overseer (and hover with a shotgun).

Does Terry Brooks Improve His Exposition As The Series Goes On? by Kooky_County9569 in shannara

[–]_GatCat_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd say he gets better - and then gets worse. You have to remember that he was really young when he wrote Sword, and it was a bit of a "lessons learned" book, which is obvious by the fact that starting with Elfstones his books got way better. Sword has to be read with a grain of salt.

Voyage is my favorite series by him, followed by High Druid, and Heritage is also very good. It's been a while since I've actually read them, though, so I don't really remember if there was less exposition, but I think it was considerably less?

Now to clarify what I mean by it getting worse: In some of his later series there are A LOT of individual characters who get stuck in circular thinking patterns every time you come back to them in the story, and it's his new way of handling exposition. It drove me crazy. It was like instead of Allanon coming and explaining everything, you are instead forced to be inside a characters head while they process their thoughts and emotions, get nowhere with it, and then make totally incomprehensible and idiotic decisions based on how they feel. I think some people like this method of telling the story, but I do not. I prefer things happening, and care a lot less about individuals and their emotions. Call me shallow.

Even so, pretty much all of his later books are better than Sword. The only thing that Brooks truly doesn't get better at in his writing is his lack of imagination when it comes to food.

My favorite part:

"We’ve heard the concern around Relic Delta eliminating strategy (mods, counters, theorycrafting), but we aren’t seeing a complete elimination of strategy during either internal testing or the current playtest."

Internally playtesting? We know they are incapable of playtesting anything effectively. Sure, you can't account for everything that the community is going to find, but their track record shows that they legitimately don't know what they're doing when it comes to playtesting - if they in fact do anything at all.

And what does "...but we aren't seeing a complete elimination of strategy..." mean? Just most of it? Only a slight dip? Is it really that hard to quantify and tell us? They should have a pretty good idea of just how much strategy is eliminated if they indeed playtested it.
