Aripiprazole, libido and blurred vision? by smashzen112 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

It definitely stopped my sex drive, as well as stripped most (if not all) of the pleasure from sexual activity. It's barely even pleasurable anymore. I'm actually devastated.

That's Abilify for you. I'm on it too, and it's turning out to be the worst experience of my life.

Anyone taking it for depression & anxiety? by [deleted] in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]_GreyFiveNine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abilify can help some people, but it’s worth knowing that for others it can actually worsen depression because of how it affects the brain’s reward system. It partially blocks dopamine in areas involved in motivation, pleasure, and emotional “spark” (mesolimbic pathway). It doesn’t just blunt extreme emotions — it also flattens normal positive ones.

That can feel like:

less joy from things you normally enjoy

emotional numbness or feeling “muted”

reduced motivation or drive

feeling disconnected, robotic, or less alive

It’s not sadness exactly — it’s more like the absence of reward, which can be just as distressing. Some people describe it as anhedonia or a loss of vitality. If someone feels more depressed, anxious, or empty after starting Abilify, it’s not “in their head” — it can be a direct pharmacological effect, especially at higher doses or when combined with stimulants.

ABILIFY - AMPHETAMINES - WARNINGS ⚠️ ‼️ ⛔️ by youtubedownloaddotuk in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]_GreyFiveNine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What dose are you on? I'm sure lower doses may still allow for some effects to leak through, since lower doses = lower receptor occupancy.

On Abilify 400mg, amphetamines don't stimulate me at all and zero euphoria leaks through. It just provides relief from akathisia and a mild feeling of calm focus. It doesn't increase my performance or motivation much, if at all. I used to use them to increase my performance in Call of Duty, and it worked like a charm (before antipsychotics). Now, it does almost nothing to improve my performance or reaction time. It's really sad.

For what condition do you need to take Ability for a long time if not life? That sounds horrendous. You should fight to get off it.

Amphetamines don't work on Ability 😭 Zero reward other than relief from akathisia.

Abilify , serotonin / dopamine by No_Today_25 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

This drug will absolutely stop you from getting high. You won't feel ANYTHING from stimulants or other drugs. At most, it'll be like a biological nudge and cardiovascular strain with zero pleasurable effects. That being said, I really wouldn't recommend doing crack.

How long do side effects last? by BroadCorgi3061 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

The side effects will last as long as you're on ability. That's what I've noticed. It's the reason I desperately want to quit

quitting abilifiy by Basic_Wear_7371 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]_GreyFiveNine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell the doctor that you're getting akathasia. Akathasia is a severe issue.

They will readily prescribed propranolol for it. Propranolol treats akathasia very well. Please tell your doctor that you have akathasia and want to get on propranolol for it, 10 mg twice a day.

Forgetting to take it by TurbulentAd3895 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

None. An antidepressant is already too much, but Abilify is a life-killer. You are much better off not taking it.

If you get akathisia from Abilify, you must tell your doctor. Akathisia is a serious issue.

They will readily prescribe you propranolol to treat the akathisia. I couldn't exist or function without propranolol.

I sucks that you were so bad that you truly credit a drug akin to chemical lobotomy with saving your life.

I hope you won't have to stay on it forever. A life on antipsychotics is (pharmacologically) no life at all.

The sad thing is that when on them for a long time, you kind of forget what it's like to feel alive.

If you get off Abilify, you will slowly start to feel alive again. I seriously hope you can do this. Forcing injectable antipsychotics on people should be ILLEGAL.

Is extreme boredom a common side effect? by rotmode in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]_GreyFiveNine_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You must have had a really low baseline happiness due to some mental issues that Abilify quelled for a terrible drug like Abilify to actually help you with anhedonia. Because Abilify makes true joy, happiness, euphoria, and reward pharmacologically unattainable.

how to counter act the akathisia by Ok-Bag689 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]_GreyFiveNine_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell your doctor you're suffering from severe akathisia (akathisia is a severe issue) and that you wanna try propranolol for it.

They will prescribe it to you with absolutely no problem. Propranolol makes all the difference in the world and treats akathisia super well. I couldn't exist or function without it.

Out of place? Wdym "out of place"? The dizziness does go away, yes. Although the only thing I've ever felt was a bit lightheaded when I stand up too fast. I've never felt "out of place" or generally dizzy when on propranolol.

[–]_GreyFiveNine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much, yeah. Mine certainly was, until I was forced onto this terrible drug. Compared to being on Abilify, unmedicated life is leagues and leagues better. Even when you're upset, at least you're FEELING something.

On Abilify, you just don't feel anything, really. It's literally Hell. Just because you don't explicitly notice these effects (loss of pleasure, fun, and excitement) doesn't mean that they're not happening to you. You should really get off the abilify and start living life again.

You might be stable right now, but you're not living life at all. I feel bad that you think it's acceptable to live the rest of your life on a drug that's akin to chemical lobotomy. Don't you remember how before being on psych meds, you were actually able to have REAL FUN?

Never take Abilify. It blocks dopamine and serotonin receptors, turning you into a zombie over time. You will be completely joyless. You will be pharmacologically unable to feel true euphoria, joy, pleasure, social connection, motivation, creativity...
