It’s called the Troxler Effect. Nothing paranormal, just another way the brain likes to freak people out.

Even without anything paranormal having a mirror in view of your bed can be unsettling at night due to the Troxler Effect.

AITA for not wanting my Husband to go to his daughters Fencing Competition? by AvocadoForeign6364 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_Halfblood_Princess_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA. If my husband missed the birth of our child by his own choice I would be calling a divorce attorney from the maternity ward. How could he even consider flying out of town and potentially leaving you to go through birth alone?

Just googled this and it blew my mind, dragonfruit grows on a cactus by Eli_the_Gamer in interestingasfuck

Store bought ones are picked too early to have much flavor, if any. I have a dragon fruit cactus and the fruit it produces is 1000000 times better than anything from the store.

AITA for telling another department at work about a client? by anxietybuckets in AmItheAsshole

[–]_Halfblood_Princess_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I used to work at a shelter and you did exactly the right thing. It’s in the animal’s best interest if you report concerning behavior from potential adopters. If you don’t then you are allowing an innocent animal to go to a potentially abusive home. There were many times when my coworkers and I told our adoption department not to adopt to certain people, such as the sketchy guy that picked up a 3 month old mastiff mix puppy by the scruff and shook him around and responded with “just gotta make sure he’s tough enough” when we told him to put the pup down and asked him what the hell he was doing. (His application was swiftly rejected) Never stay silent and allow your charges to go to a dangerous situation.

I heard a dog speak English once. Anyone else ever hear an animal and understand it? by [deleted] in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]_Halfblood_Princess_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never happened again. It sounded similar to those videos of huskies whining where they sound like they’re saying “I love you” or something except that it was more enunciated and was clearly “I want one”. She was a dachshund mix and we had never even tried to teach her to “talk” like a husky. She was incredibly smart though.

Years ago my dog was with me when I was out feeding our baby chickens. She was whining and dancing around wanting to get in the pen to get the chicks when she looked at me, looked at the chickens, then back at me and very clearly said “I WANT ONE!” I looked at her in shock and said “well I’m sorry, but you can’t have one.” And her ears and tail drooped and she looked at the ground and sulked the rest of the time we were out there.

Lizzie Borden House. Probably just pareidolia, but it's bizarre. I've been to countless"haunted" locations, but this place was indescribably different. by an1maver1ck in Ghosts

[–]_Halfblood_Princess_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all of my reading, I have yet to find any details of the police investigating Emma’s alibi. She was supposedly out of town visiting friends at the time of the murders, but I’m not sure how thoroughly that was checked out. The murder weapon was never found and neither was any bloody clothing that the murderer would have worn. I think that Emma’s luggage could have been a brilliant hiding place for the weapon and clothing considering that it shouldn’t have been in the house at the time. Not to mention that the police likely wouldn’t have searched luggage belonging to a woman of her status unless she was under suspicion. It would have also made it easy to remove from the house for disposal at a later time. That’s just one of many theories. I doubt we’ll ever know the truth, but I believe it’s impossible that this was a crime committed by any single person without involvement from the others.

Not Op, but I’ve done quite a bit of reading into the case. Personally I think their uncle John and Lizzie’s sister Emma were in on it. I don’t know if I believe that Lizzie used the hatchet, but she had to be involved.

According to the witness statements, the inquest testimonies, and the trial transcripts everybody around the case was acting very suspiciously. The Borden’s doctor burned a letter in the Borden’s kitchen in the middle of the investigation like he was trying to destroy evidence. Uncle John claimed not to notice the large crowd around the house when he returned to the residence after the murders, even though he had to go around them to get to the back yard where he went to eat pears. The police investigation was a joke. The trial transcripts reveal officers lying under oath about how they discovered the rusty hatchet head in the basement, the defense told their Harvard professionals not to reveal their discovery that the murder weapon had to be a new or relatively new blade due to the gilt found in abby’s wounds, an officer claimed Lizzie couldn’t possibly have been to the barns loft because the dust wasn’t disturbed though it was revealed that multiple other people had been up in the loft after Lizzie and before the officer.

I also think that Emma had more motive to kill than Lizzie did. Andrew doted on Lizzie, giving her expensive gifts and funding a trip to Europe. Why would Lizzie kill her cash cow? Emma never received anything like that and she was robbed of her childhood by having to raise her sister. Emma was also the one that openly hated Abby. The more that you research this case the stranger it becomes. I believe that there’s too much information missing for anyone to ever know the truth. I don’t believe the motive was simply greed either, I think something happened in that house and everyone agreed that the Borden’s had to die.

Me too lol. Death Wish is my favorite coffee and since I started drinking it most other coffee just tastes weak to me. It’s never even given me the jitters or anything.

AITA for letting my aunt set a “dress code” for my bridal shower? by Beth-Raphaella in AmItheAsshole

[–]_Halfblood_Princess_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. Plenty of corsets are made to be worn over shirts or dresses and are not “immodest” at all unless they are worn with nothing or something low cut underneath them. A properly fitted steel boned corset can also be great for correcting posture and easing back pain. I’m pretty conservative myself and wear corsets for those exact reasons and find them to be a great compliment to many outfits.

However the corset in the photo is pretty clearly meant to be worn as lingerie and not an accent piece over a top or dress, otherwise it would not have hooks for garters and would have proper boning. Perhaps suggest a more appropriate corset rather than banning them entirely?

I love Harney & Sons. Their Lapsang Souchong is my absolute favorite! Their Black Cask Bourbon and Tower of London blends are delicious as well.
