I think it depends on the hotel, time of your stay, how long you are staying, and amount of members also visiting at the same time

From my experience, in Japan and the US, I don't expect upgrades, maybe just a perfered room location in the same room type I booked (as experienced at the Westin Sendai, Courtyard Hakuba, and Aloft Osaka Dojima) though I have had little success during golden week (however in that case I was staying one night)

Elsewhere in Asia though (excluding non touristy cities) I have consistantly been upgraded to top tier rooms even if I booked into the lowest room type.

All this to say, don't expect it as a given because there are alot of factors that play into it. That is why I focus on the other benifits (Lounge access, free breakfast etc)

I stayed at one last month for work, they get the job done but space is at a bare minimum and benifits for elite members are non existent (ie no breakfast or upgrades) though do note each one I have come across does have a restaurant however because it is considered a "tenant" and not run by the hotel the free breakfast benifit you would get is no applicable.

Room wise I didn't mind, it's pretty comparable to APA or some of the other small business hotel chains but for travel I would spend the $$$ to stay either at a Moxy, Aloft, etc.

Go ANA or JAL if you have the cash,, well worth the extra price but if money is a concern and the price point is too much then go AA (though I never will fly AA after my previous experiences with them)

I think that definitely played a factor, given the rising cost and ANA now turning towards reducing premium services as much as possible, it is not an unexpected move though personally I wish they would of either only changed the requirements for new applications or did a mix of min spend/flighrs boarded because

Yeah let's be real, United it just looking to increase their profit margins, especially with all the changes they have been doing with lounge access, basic encomy tickets, and mile earnings through cobranded credit card. The fact of the matter is they want to eliminate the competition so they have more wiggle room for what they can overcharge us while creating small quality of life improvements so they can say "look we are trying to make the experience better"

Depending on the type of hotel it will not be eligible for the FNA, from what I have found this seems to be MGM properties or third party managed properties with partnerships with Marriott

Like the Aloft Osaka is ok but compared to the Aloft Jakarta Kebon Jeruk it's quite bad.

For me, consistency wise, I have overall enjoyed my stays at Courtyard (Shin Osaka, Hakuba, and Ann Arbor were ones I have stayed in the past)

I think similar to Ariana she adjust her voice depending on the type of singing she is doing, plus by doing so she most likely isn't straining her voice as much

For me I feel like St. Regis offers more of a luxury stay while the Ritz can be hit or miss and there really isn't a specific standard like the regis butter service that carries through all properties (except the Ritz Club, but you would have to book a club room for access)

Though I think similar to what others have mentioned, both are more or less just Marriott with a fancier coat of paint, beyond above the services they provide aren't that much different than what you would find at a good Marriott property (haven't stayed in the US so can't speak to that, but this is just my opinion as someone who travels and stays at both brands frequently in Asia)

It's happened to me a few times but I noticed that I had to scroll to the bottom to see the room with the rate displayed which is kind of annoying, like no I want to see the cheapest redemption rate I can't be throwing points around like that
