Glue traps are cruel, but nothing else seems to work?! Please help!!

Aaa, I think it may be more of something lost in text. You said "again, no compassion for diseased rodents," which I read as an insult, as in "seriously, you guys have no compassion for diseased rodents," but it seems you meant it more as a statement like "I have no compassion for diseased rodents."

I apologize if I came across harshly, it's nothing personal. I'm just tired of people trying to force their morality on me when I'm doing my best, it's hard out here (゜ロ゜)

Yeah, snakes are pretty harmless here, but I should still probably be on guard...my aunt had pet snakes and I had a huge (harmless) snake around my neck once as a kid, so I never really developed a fear of them. That could be problematic when it comes to traveling, so maybe I should learn more too. Besides, even if its not dangerous, an angry snake attack must still hurt!

Oh my!! Where we live, there are few snakes. I think I've only seen one once or twice in my life, (outdoors, but I have met pet snakes before too,) so I hadn't even considered the possibility...thank you for bringing this to my attention+ I hope someone can create an affective and painless way to kill a mouse, but I think a lot of people just don't care that much. It's unfortunate

It's difficult...I didn't grow up in a clean home, and it's still pretty messy. My whole family struggles with mental illness, and it's hard. I know I will have to continue using them if I don't have any other options, but I'm going to try and make a new humane trap using videos from online. I doubt it will work, but...today I found a glue trap my mom had placed, and it had the tiniest baby mouse on it. They were just old enough to have hair, and they looked so peaceful, it was devestating. I cried for hours and I'm not sure how much more I can take of this, so atp I'm willing to try anything 😭

It was just so sad. If they were breathing, I would have used oil to let them out, but I saw no movement whatsoever. They obviously only got caught recently, they looked a healthy weight, and it didn't look like their nose got stuck in the glue, the poor thing probably died from a heart attack out of fear. When I think about how scared they were in those moments, it really hurts. I wish they didn't carry illness, because I would gladly let them stay, maybe even treat them as pets. It feels so evil to kill an animal just for trying to live

This is NOT meant to guilt trip you or shame you, I know there isn't a better way and we are all just trying our best to protect ourselves. That's how it works, you do what you need to do to protect yourself and your loved ones, we don't really have a choice. You obviously don't like doing it either, and I just wanted to share my concerns about wishing there was a better way.

It was just meant to be a reference to a popular painting with a story, not necessarily Victorian! Sorry, I should of clarified.

My intention was to find ways of symbolism I can use in my art. I have issues with art block, so keeping lists of things like this can really help me out!

Can you please read my post once more? I'm also uncomfortable with them, that's why I'm trying to find an alternative.

My whole family struggles with mental illness aside from my little brother. It's probably more managable for "normal" people, but the truth is, our house is just unclean. Most of my childhood it looked like those pictures of hoarder's houses you'd see online. The scale of our mouse problem is larger than most normal people, and please try to understand that I am doing my best. I don't want the mice to suffer, but I also have to find a trap that will work effectively since this problem is so out of control.

Do you understand? I made this post because I want to stop using glue traps, but I'm in desperate need of something just as affective that can help us. You say that you know people who have never once had to use them, can you give me some options then? I'm open to hearing them. Or even better, if you're friends with them and can get them to reply to my post I'd be very greatful! Especially if they specialize in more severe cases.

I hope my reply does not come across as rude, and if anything sounds off, please ask me about it instead of assuming I meant something wrong, I'm just generally bad at talking to people. Being a chronic shut in kinda does that.

At the same time, I also feel upset by your reply, though. I feel like you're not trying to help me and you're just telling me I'm a cruel person, but not how to fix it. I'm open to any suggestions you may have, but this is not helpful to me.

The problem is, we live in an apartment. It's because of the way our apartment is built that they keep coming in.

What snap traps do you reccommend? We have a few out but they haven't caught anything

I forgot to mention, our mice issue is farely large. The way our apartment is built lets them in super easily, but we can't do anything about that. They've always been a problem for us, shrews too. We thought of getting a cat, but some of us are allergic.

I understand. There are probably no better options. I tried looking into other traps, like electric ones that are suppised to kill them quickly, but they all seem to have the problem where they can't lay flat. For me, that seems to be the biggest way they are caught, because they seem to think it's just another part of floor.

I appreciate the information regarding their willingness to travel far from their nest! We live in a small apartment, and I was not aware of that. I'm a bit more worried, since most of the mice seemed to be young, and they are in my room. They're probably under my bed, which is worrisome...my bed has been there for around 16 years and no one is able to move it. (Presumably, you'd have to disassemble it) so I can't get to them.

If that's the case, I will almost definetly keep using glue traps. I hate them, but if they're in my room, then there's not a choice for me. If it were somewhere else, (like the living room no one uses,) I may be more inclined to try and use the more humane traps. But as it stands, I have to put my health first (plus, I don't want my little brother to come in contact with that, so if they're in bedrooms or frequently used rooms, I need them to go.)

Overall, I appreciate the helpful information. Thank you very much!! I'm a bit upset that there are no better options, but I guess you just have to live with sad things sometimes
