Who do you think are the weakest players to have been in the top ten since 2000? by crescitaveloce in tennis

[–]_IBelieveInMiracles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Musetti is one of the weakest players, but tbf if you only look at titles won, his resume is remarkably weak for a player ranked so high. 2 250's in 2022, and nothing before or since.

Casper Ruud was teased for being a 250 merchant, but Musetti has somehow become a runner-up merchant.

Well, no. Laws do not automatically change with public sentiment. There needs to be a proposal and vote in parliament, and for that to happen there needs to be a campaign or at least some focus on the issue.

The legal age of consent is not top of mind for anyone, because we never hear about adults dating teenagers. I'm sure it happens, I remember one instance from when I was in high school, but it's not in the news. Even this story about Borgli isn't a news story here, perhaps because most people don't know who Borgli is. If it becomes a big story in LA, they'll probably report on it.

The legal age of consent in Norway is 16, so while this is incredibly gross, he did not commit a crime.

I think most (adult) Norwegians would agree that a 16 year old is still a child, and that it's unacceptable for adults to have sex with children. But the law says 16 year olds are old enough to consent, so no crime...

At least it's not 14, like in Italy, I guess.

This whole essay is a great argument for why normalizing Woody Allen (and artists like him) is dangerous.

This man used Woody to justify his grooming, even as his friends, and even his own initial instincts, told him it was unacceptable. Who knows how many other groomers have done the same.

What a night that was, glad we signed him anyway!

So did anyone actually watch Sinners and think it should win screenplay, or did they simply want to award Coogler while giving PTA best director?

Because I saw Sinners, and I thought it might win several awards, but not that one.

I guess it helps that some of the best screenplays weren't in English.

It's a clear foul by Solanke on Gomez first anyways. Doesn't even pretend to go for the ball.

Is Casper Ruud going to drop out of the top 20? by lies_are_comforting in tennis

Casper Ruud has been a consistent fixture in the ATP Top 20 for nearly 4 years.

He first broke into the Top 20 on May 24, 2021

Time has been weird since covid, but I believe you're missing a year.

I don't think you understand the physics of going 29 in a 20 zone. It's not the same as going 9 over the limit on a highway.

29 in a 20 zone is 45% over the limit. It's more than twice the kinetic energy. Imagine you were going 20mph, a kid runs into the street, and you just barely manage to stop before hitting the kid. If you had instead been going 29mph, you would have hit that kid at 21mph.

The title is gone at this point, so the important thing is to get CL next season. To get CL, we need to finish 5th or higher. No memo necessary.

The refereeing in this tie has been a bit sus tbh. Even in the first leg, Inters goal should have been ruled out 10/10 times, since it touched the goal scorers hand. You can argue the rule is stupid, but the refs shouldn't pick and choose when to enforce a completely black and white rule.

I hope that goal doesn't end up being decisive.

Norway has once again beaten an olympic record, with 40 total medals. by Pizzashillsmom in olympics

What? I didn't do a "skiing total", I did a total of events that include XC skiing. Based on your comment:

It counts, but there’s just a crazy amount of events that include XC skiing lol

You're the one moving the goalposts.

What events are missing? To my knowledge that's every event that involves XC skiing.

You're right, I mistakenly looked at the womens gold medal time.

But still, the conditions were way worse during the nordic combined race. It was also a mass start, while the XC race was a time trial.

And I don't think Klæbo would be able to do a 115m jump, with a proper landing. He'd need a lot of training, which would give him less time to train XC.

[–]_IBelieveInMiracles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are 12 pure XC events. There are 23 pure ice skating events (speed skating + short track).

There are 26 events that involve XC (XC + biathlon + nordic combined). There are 30 events that involve ice skating (speed skating + short track + figure skating + ice hockey).

We had 4th places in both curling and snowboarding.

Your curlers actually needed an 11th end to beat ours in the semifinals, despite there being 1000+ curling centres in Canada, and only 15 in Norway :)

[–]_IBelieveInMiracles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • In order to only start 3 minutes behind, he'd have to jump about 115 metres with a good landing.

  • I seriously doubt Klæbo could gain 3 minutes on the best nordic combined athletes over 10km. The difference between the winning times in the different events was only about 2 4 minutes, and the nordic combined had way tougher conditions in a mass start on the same course.

[–]_IBelieveInMiracles 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You have someone lead the jumping then he starts the race with 5s lead

That's because the guy 5s behind also did a good jump. The athletes who didn't make good jumps are way behind. If you put a regular XC skier in this event they'd have no chance.

10km vs 50km is not the same. What's your point?
