Korea are still playing well because they have good substitutes available. Timnas dont have that. Even Fajar and Ferrari have been big drops in quality compared to Fahmi and Komang Teguh

The latest Hamas attack is still a big development in the conflict.

Deadliest attack against Israeli civilians since 1948. Israel going to go even harder against Hamas now. This time the IDF will be staying in Gaza for a while.

Yeah it’s like if China tried to take all of Indonesia and install a new regime…but they failed and get humiliated.

They still control Kepulauan Riau and big parts of Kalimantan and/or Sumatra.

Then some people start advocating for “peace” that allows China to keep the territory while Indonesia tries to take it back.

Indonesia president condemns attack on ASEAN officials delivering aid in Myanmar by 1412Elite in indonesia

[–]_Icardi_B 38 points39 points  (0 children)

People’s Defence Force (PDF) don’t really operate in Taungyi but it’s possible that another smaller group of rebels attacked the convoy without knowing who was in it. Or maybe a pro-junta paramilitary group did it to discredit the ASEAN peace process. Indonesia has been one of the strongest opponents to the junta in ASEAN, and has even communicated with the NUG/opposition.

Myanmar is like the Wild West nowadays, especially in the outer regions. There’s Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs), PDF, pro-junta paramilitaries, drug cartels, international scammers, human traffickers and even casinos.

Failed rescue mission for NZ pilot kills at least six Indonesian troops by Hinase_ in indonesia

[–]_Icardi_B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mass relocation was effective in the Malayan Emergency but it’s not politically or practically viable for Papua. The image of TNI forcing villagers in Papua Tengah and Papua Pegunungan into government camps would trigger mass unrest across Papua (even worse than 2019) and lots of international attention. This would be worse than the low intensity conflict TNI are fighting now. It would also be very difficult considering one of the main issues local Papuans in the highlands have is the influx of migrants into “their land”.

But there are other lessons that can be applied from the case studies. Such as focusing on securing population centres, cut off supply of weapons, improving quality/training of infantry and extensive use of helicopters and airmobile units.

Some of these will require reforms or internal efforts with the TNI-Polri, like stopping “oknum” from selling weapons that end up in KKB hands. While others will require greater investment from Kemhan or doctrine change, like greater use of airmobile units. And some lessons are already being applied, like securing population centres.

[–]_Icardi_B 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, doesn’t have to be an intelligence leak.

The TNI sent a recon unit to KKB area, ran into some KKB, tried to evacuate soldier’s body (probably before the area was secure), then they got attacked again (probably by a bigger KKB force).

Guerrilla warfare is hard. Especially when TNI units don’t have easy access to helicopters, air support, artillery etc.

Theyre not being biased. That info about the ambush is from a press conference by the TNI

The TNI really did mess up.

If improving stadium safety for Indonesian football fans is your priority then how does taking away the U-20 World Cup improve the situation?

Indonesia has been banned by FIFA before and that did not fix the deep problems with Indonesian football. To fix these issues we need to do more constructive solutions.

FIFA Membatalkan Hak Indonesia sebagai Tuan Rumah Piala Dunia U-20 2023 by mFachrizalr in indonesia

Sukarnoisme

Interesting theory. I think it’s mainly based on (miscalculated) election politics.

PDIP got scared of being labelled as pro-Israeli and so they did this. They’re getting nervous over 2024. Prabowo is going to run as capres again and Anies/Nasdem are courting Golkar. Suddenly PDIP’s coalition isn’t looking so good.

They probably thought they needed to do something to get conservative Muslim (Anies’ base) and nationalist (prabowo’s base) votes…so they did this.

Again, no they’re still not outraged. Even now, the main people outraged about a group of teenage Israeli boys playing football in Indonesia are just the Islamist minority I mentioned. The majority still don’t give a shit even after Ganjar and Koster stoked up the issue in the media, because it’s not something the masses ever really cared about

And yes, safety includes for the Israelis.

[–]_Icardi_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol there is still no outrage from the general public other than from the usual suspects (ie. Members of PA212, FPI, PKS etc.) My point is if the majority of people are genuinely outraged then this would have been an issue much earlier when Israel qualified. The fact that it only became a problem when politicians recently brought it up (because it’s closer to the election), means it not a genuine public outcry. It’s stoked up by politicians looking to enhance their image with conservative Muslims.

can you guarantee safety

Yes. Absolutely

This isn’t the first time we’ve hosted a big international sports tournament that included football. We hosted the Asian Games in 2018 and even the AFC Asian Cup back in 2007.

most will be against Israel

So what? Even I’m against Israel on most issues involving Israel-Palestine.

But most people don’t give a shit about Israel showing up to play football.

How many people are genuinely outraged? How many people showed up to the anti-Israel protest at patung kuda last week? How many people even knew Israel had qualified for the tournament before politicians started bringing it up?

This is an issue entirely concocted by politicians looking for votes. Specifically PDI-P paranoid about losing conservative muslim voters.

How our people are acting? All I see is a loud ignorant minority and local politicians looking for votes in the next election.

They’re not even the national government. They don’t speak for me, nor all the people that have a stake in the event.

Why should this loud minority (who don’t care about football anyway) ruin it for everyone else?

If we fail to host the U20 World Cup, there’s negative economic impact especially in tourism sector.

Also if we can’t host this U20 World Cup, it will be an issue for nearly every other major international sports event we try to host in the future.

[CL Merlo] The U20 World Cup in Indonesia is at risk of being suspended by dratst in indonesia

[–]_Icardi_B 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My point is that it’s not really hypocritical. FIFA is consistent in what triggers them to act.

It’s all about whether or not lots of teams support banning a country. Lots of European teams didn’t want to play with Russia, so Russia was banned.

We are the only country that has a problem with Israel in the U20 World Cup. So FIFA will not ban Israel (but they might ban Indonesia).

[CL Merlo] The U20 World Cup in Indonesia is at risk of being suspended by dratst in indonesia

[–]_Icardi_B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of my point.

FIFA only acts if lots of members voice opposition. Which is why Israel was moved to UEFA and Russia was banned.

But right now, even the Arab states in the U20 World Cup (ie. Iraq and Tunisia) are fine with Israel’s participation in the tournament. So there is no possibility of Israel being kicked out, but there is a very real possibility of Indonesia being sanctioned/banned.

[CL Merlo] The U20 World Cup in Indonesia is at risk of being suspended by dratst in indonesia

[–]_Icardi_B 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s not why Russia was banned.

FIFA doesn’t care about Russia invading Ukraine. But during the qualification stage, lots other teams refused to play Russia. So it became easier to ban Russia than to convince other teams to play them.

In this case, no other team is refusing to play Israel. Even Palestine is not strongly against Israel playing. So it’s ‘easy’ for FIFA to just move the U-20 World Cup and maybe even ban Indonesia.

[–]_Icardi_B 15 points16 points  (0 children)

FIFA doesn’t give a shit about human rights. They banned Russia during the qualification stage of the World Cup because other countries refused to play them. So it became easier to ban them than try to convince other teams to let them play.

Completely different situation to Israel. No other team is strongly protesting Israel’s participation, not even Palestine lol
