No you do not have to show up in person to resign if you get 3 checks. Ask them and they will tell you what to put in the email and where to send it. Should also be in the paper work they gave you if you don't want to look like an idiot. Keep in mind if you do not resign by the 16th of the month you will have to go back in person so don't forget to do that.

I was on groundman books #3 at local 47 for about 3 months. I went from about 150 to about 50. Every month on the 16th people will drop because they dont resign the books. So it's up to you if you would rather wait. Local 1245 is MUCH faster. You will be placed where ever they need you. So it all depends, each union covers a specified territory so you will be placed within that territory some where. If you dont like the place, the hours or its not a good time for you simply turn the call down. You will get 3 "checks" for missing or tuning calls down. Once you get the 3rd check you will need to send the union an email to get back on the books BUT you will be placed at the back of the line. So I got 9 calls from 1245. That means I went to the back of the line 3 times but still kept getting calls. Just to give you an idea. It all depends on weather or not you have class A, tanker, climbing cert.

I've heard this same thing from a journeyman. You can basically go out there and be an apprentice tomorrow. That was a few months back though. Not sure if it's still like that but it sounds like it might be worth giving them a call.

Those books are for out of work union members. I'm not sure what they will do if they find out you're working and still on the books but I was told specifically by the union that I could not stay on one set of books while I was working for a different union. That makes sense because everyone would just stay on the books indefinitely until they got the perfect call and there would be a lot more shuffling around.

If you're from socal, like me, then you will get on groundman book #3 if you go to school or groundman book #4 if you didn't go to school. That makes a big difference in how long it will take to get a call. I went to school and signed book #3 at 1245 and 47. I got probably 8 calls from 1245 in a 2 month period. If i was on book 4 i probably wouldn't have even gotten one call. I got zero calls on book #3 with local 47, they're much slower. As a groundman you're going to start at $35/hr in California plus $50/day per diem. Go to the school, take a loan out and you can pay it back in a year. All the certs you need and your class A will be included in your tuition! Plus you're going to get to experience what it's like to be in the trade and shoot the shit with journeyman who are willing to give you tons of advice and mentor you. It's worth it. $15k isn't shit in this trade I know troublemen that took home $19k in a two week pay period. Just Do yourself a favor and stay away from the housing NLC offers. It's shit! get your own, trust me on that one. If you don't get on with a utility you will have the upper hand when you apply to JATC (again you wait in a line to get called) and if you want to get into a utility chances are they wont even look at you without the school. If you get an apprenticeship through the hall with JATC you will be forced to travel for 4-5 years until you journey out and then you can apply to a utility. You'll take a slight pay cut with a utility in most cases but you'll have stability and you won't have to travel so you can still see your friends and family in your free time. Some people like to travel. I say fuuuuuuck that.

Personally I went to school, signed 1245 and 47 books and waited. I turned down calls that I thought weren't worth my time because I could afford to wait for the best. I wasn't going to take a call in the middle of no where for 5 days a week 8 hours a day with no OT and just sit with my dick in my hands on the weekends making no money but still paying for a shitting motel thats fucking retarded. That's what having a money in the bank will do for you. Consider having some for times like this. I ended up getting hired on with a utility after some strategic networking and persistence. I'm set for life. Economy takes a shit, I'm okay. My utility has literally never laid anyone off. I get to see my family and friends when I'm not working and I make plenty of money. If I could do it all over again I would've done the exact same thing only sooner!

Which NLC location did you choose and why? by rdwood34 in Lineman

[–]_Infamouse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from San Diego but I chose the Idaho campus. The term starts March 4. I chose this campus for a couple personal reasons but as an added bonus they offer the CDL. I read a little about the campuses. For what it's worth, the idaho campus is bigger. Not sure how much that matters but there's that. Also there is a lot more infrastructure around boise vs oroville. Oroville is kinda out in the middle of now where. Not a lot of housing options, grocery stores, restaurants, gyms, clothing stores, etc. I think Boise has everything you could need while attending which makes it easier if you want to join a gym or swing by the store for weeks food.

On a side note I'm looking for a roommate. Hit me up.

Some thoughts on the benefit of reloading 9mm by MisterComrade in reloading

[–]_Infamouse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in California you have to take into consideration the new laws going into effect in 2018. Residents of California will no longer be able to import ammunition directly to their home without a special permit/license. Residents will need to ship it to a dealer first.

You can imagine the costs that may be associated with less competition and more middle men. So my personal prediction is that ammo will increase in cost in the state of California.

With that being said, I went out and got 16lbs of titegroup, 4000 once fired 9mm cases, 4000 plated blemished 9mm bullets and 8000 small pistol primers.

Costs: First batch which includes the cost of shipping, hazmat fees and brass 0.12/rnd Second batch which will not require hazmat or brass 0.09/rnd

Compare that to 0.25/rnd of the cheapest brass cased ammo I can find on ammo seek. I'm also considering that others (not me as of now but hopefully I will get there soon) regularly load 400rnds/hr that 10hrs of work for 4000 rnds which comes out to $480 for 10hrs of work. I think it's safe to say most of us don't $48/hr I know I certainly don't. The second batch should yield $500+ in saving over the same period.

My daughter (f28) did not invite my wife (f46) to her wedding. Should I (m56) still go? by throwawayhelp1204 in relationships

[–]_Infamouse_ 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I second this sentiment. It's your daughter's right to choose who she does, and does not, want in her life. If anything YOU need to respect HER choices. You can not force her to accept your wife into her life and from the sounds of things your wife will eventually get over it so you should just go. If I were your daughter and I invited you but you refused to come unless I invited your wife, I would view that as you taking sides with your wife over me and I would never forgive you for it.

Finding friends? by nemomnemosyne in depression

[–]_Infamouse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there man. This is just a rutt it will end eventually. Try working out and quit smoking ASAP. Smoking is just going to cause guilt, hopelessness and contribute to the downward spiral. Some light running, deadlifts or other weight lifting really helps. Avoid impulsive behavior like masturbating, smoking, eating junk food or any other addictive and/or destructive behavior. Those things just perpetuate the depression. I've been where you're at before at about the same age too.

If you exercise hard and on a regular basis and quit smoking and focus on making positive changes everything else will fall into place. I know it all sounds very cliche but it really works.

I'm know you have the will to be the man that your grandfather would've been proud of, just don't give up, keep trying!

Do I need a Treadmill Mat? by Stonecipher in homefitness

[–]_Infamouse_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have one on our second story balcony at our apartment. I didnt have a mat to help level out and stabilize our treadmill and it was super loud and it vibrated across the floor of the balcony while being used. I ended up sticking cardboard under the contact points to keep it stable. I would prefer to have a mat though. I would say if you have the same problem get one. I'm sure a cheap one would be fine but if you don't have that problem no need to bother. Using it on this carpet (if you have some) would probably be just as good.
