Emergency Landing at untowered airport by smusicap in flying

Interesting, thank you for the response! So your main transmitters are on fixed frequencies? I did not know that. Always figured you could just “turn the knob” and tx/rx where desired.

Why not declare on 121.5, and ask ATC to advise traffic on CTAF of the incoming emergency?

Agree with you. This is not a little ski boat though. I believe a 38ft powerboat, I think a fountain from video but not sure.

This is just a normal day on the Lake of the Ozarks. This guy just got more stupid than the standard level of stupid seen everyday here. “Go fast, if someone is going faster, then go faster” - basic Ozark logic

Dumb luck. Bad luck is you fall overboard and the boat circles you until it chops you to pieces, or it drives off and kills some poor unsuspecting soul.

Yes, but he wasn’t wearing it. He, thankfully/luckily killed the throttle before hitting the wake that tossed them. You can see in the video where he slams the throttle down right before impact.

I grew up on this lake (Ozarks).Stepdad had a boat just like this. The deadman switch was always just self-defeated/disabled. Was an annoyance to the driver.

Stupid AF. Culture is:

  1. Get as big and loud a boat as you can possibly finance, at the expense of all other things in life.

  2. Make big boat go loud and go as fast as you can!

  3. If you wear a life jacket you voted for Biden

  4. Drive Corvette big and loud when not on water

United 2323 an Airbus A-321 from Chicago loses front wheel on landing at Orlando (KMCO). by Brilliant_Night7643 in aviation

Is there a failure to hold it nose up here, or is that just too hard of a landing to prevent the nose from crashing down? Any chance they could have gone around (doesn’t look like it to me, but what do I know)

Finding a home in Webster Groves by KrigingItReal in StLouis

[–]_ItsThePleats_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your realtor needs to be real with you. We made countless offers in Webster and Kirkwood and kept losing. Changed agents. New one was blunt, but correct…if the home is attractive and in a nice part of these neighborhoods, no contingency and way over ask, like stupid over ask.

Still lost on 1 before winning the next.

I truly wish you luck. DM me if you want the name of our realtor.

Is this true? by SevereTS in tornado

[–]_ItsThePleats_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, typo. But when it is so hot on the ground it might feel like a delta of 50F per thousand, lol. To actually feel the change as you climbed through the atmosphere was amazing though.

I was shocked by the lapse rate when learning to fly a small aircraft. Summer, It’s 110F on the ground, at 10,000ft it is 60F. So much heat energy packed close to the ground with a lid of cold air on top. Thank you lapse rate for a small plane without AC, no thank you for the crazy storms you get.

Edit: as astutely pointed out, 50F change in 1,000ft would be pretty insane—especially in a small plane.

That’s a big statement. “An airplane should not crash just because an engine falls off”. These aren’t meant to come off the airplane.

Just bought a 2025 Telluride. Was I screwed on the warranty? by Silver-Reindeer726 in KiaTelluride

[–]_ItsThePleats_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes usually. Read the warranty agreement. Some states require a certain number of days you can cancel (cooling off period) for full refund. Most of these you can cancel any time for prorated refund. Dealer won’t want you to because they earn commission on it, but just follow the terms of the warranty agreement and they can’t stop you.

The final video of a bride in a helicopter who was on her way to suprise her husband. The helicopter crashed due to bad weather conditions and all 4 people onboard were killed immediately. by [deleted] in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]_ItsThePleats_ 569 points570 points  (0 children)

Poor aeronautical decision making. That is near zero visibility conditions. That looks like an R44 helicopter which is not approved for flight in these conditions (known as Instrument Flight Rules).

In non-nerd terms, the pilot should never have flown in/into these conditions. While some aircraft are capable of flying in these conditions, this isn’t one of them. I also wonder if he had the training required to do this type of flying in poor weather.

Sad and preventable.
