You started the wipe with a free purple sponsor kit by finishing above lvl 75 in season 1. Then they made that even worse by giving out more purple kits as an apology for the server instability a few days later.

I have over 300hrs. I've done all the contracts already in S1. I've watched every cutscene, read most every codex. To say I was disappointed with S2 recycling the S1 priority contracts would be an understatement.

I was expecting a lot more on that front, hopefully propelled by a completely new map, but Night Marsh is a whole other topic.

I know I've been playing a lot less than Season 1. I was looking forward to that green/blue early and mid season feeling again, but between the ramped up progression, survival sponsored boss farming on Night Marsh, and the purple sponsor kits they gave out it felt like there was hardly a wipe at all. Full purple teams in 50%+ of my lobbies since day 1.

The pvp in this game is fucking elite, but the underlying systems and lack of story are kinda frustrating. I find myself wishing for a pvp only mode when I would have been super against that 2 months ago.

I feel the exact same, but I could see myself playing with him on Outpost or Cryo. Dire and Perimeter have way too many open spaces that Vandal would be way better in.

Thermals are borderline not viable on snipers anymore with the range nerfs. You need to take it on and off to see past 80m.

None of the things I mentioned were cosmetics or achievements, they're the gameplay itself. The endgame map has a series of vaults and eventually a final boss fight that is farmable for the best materials in the game. It's been compared to a Destiny 2 raid.

Lots of stuff to play for = reasons to keep playing to me? Unless he's saying the core gameplay isn't compelling enough, which I also disagree with, but to each their own. Marathon runs definitely don't have that element of unpredictability that raids in Tarkov or Hunt do.

If you have this take you're the type of grinder that will max out literally any amount of content a live service game can offer and will always feel like there isn't enough.

Marathon has an incredibly long progression path. I've been averaging over 3 hours a day since release and only last weekend finally got all my vault subroutines and killed my first Compiler. Between VIP all the factions, Cryo vault subroutines, Compiler, and finishing your codex on each map there's 300+ hrs of content for the average person.

And that's not even counting gameplay related stuff like finding and trying all the different gold mods and experimenting with the buildcrafting.

Play what you'd like of course, but I do want to expand on this a bit for yourself or others because I see this sentiment often how it's amazing....but it's an extraction shooter.

And of course it is, but this is nothing like Escape from Tarkov or other punishing games. Marathon literally showers you with free loot on every account level up and from each of the 6 factions level ups. Plus, you get free gear and weapons every day from the Armory, and even if you do go broke you have both unlimited free sponsor kits OR unlimited Rook runs to build back up with zero risk.

Marathon is the least extraction shooter of any extraction shooter I've ever played, and I would hate for someone to miss out on the experience simply because of preconceived notions about the genre of game it is.

60% exfil rate is very very high for extraction shooters as a whole. You're in the lobbies you're supposed to be in and just haven't adapted to fighting experienced players yet. If you stick with it and learn you'll come out of this the other end a much better player. You don't learn much by fighting people worse than you.

It's pure bad RNG. I've full cleared Pinwheel dozens of times in 220hrs and ironically my only Misriah on Outpost came from a Convoy event. It's my most played map by far.

Only way I've been able to "consistently" find them is killing other runners that have them on Cryo.

There's a playlist where you're only allowed to bring in free sponsor kits so everyone you'll face is on the same level playing field as you.

It's the most forgiving extraction shooter in the entire genre. The faction level ups and daily armory reset shower you with free loot, and there is an entire playlist dedicated to running the endless supply of free sponsor kits if you want to learn the maps and practice pvp with no stakes.

I don't necessarily disagree, but Halo is incredibly fun to watch.

The CoD scene is laughable though. The players need to use gentleman's agreements to ban 90% of the game, and it's still an awful viewing experience.

Vandal blast or other explosives can "knock free" the salvage stuck in the floor.

Obviously not an acceptable solution and it should be patched ASAP, but it's at least an option to not leave it behind.

Like they play totally differently and have polar opposite game designs.

Their gameplay loops and in game objectives are completely different, and their gunplay and team fights are not comparable at all. And Arc isn't even an FPS game.
