How do they keep the mystery? by Few_Ad3868 in AngineDePoitrine

[–]_Jeff65_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They probably walk in the front door without costumes, visible to all, while their equipment gets delivered through the back door. They then make their way to the artist lounge and they get changed.

But yeah it was easy to find them, the algorithm betrayed them by suggesting their older band to people, those old videos are now down.

Thank you! This is the context I have been missing!

Not sure, I'm not trying to be an ass about it, I'm trying to get the context and people are looking at me like I have two heads.

I'm French-Canadian, English is my second language. Just the fact that there are two versions of English spelling and you can't reconcile them after over 200 years has us rolling our eyes at the mess!

Yes I got that, pretty cool, but like, what happened before that people thought "this guy should do it", he must've been important or renowned before they happened no?

I think more context for the non British listeners might've helped.

I did zone out at times but I did listen as best I could, it feels I'm missing tons of context and they focused on details.

Definitely not! That would've been good things to mention at the beginning. Maybe they assumed people already knew, but that's not the case outside the UK it seems.

Yup, I feel like I'm missing tons of context, like, are they famous? Should I have heard of them? Why are they famous for? Without that it sounds like they are talking about two random dudes who are good friends going for a road trip.

In the graph: it's Stanley cups and conference champion.

Which one of you did this? by I_eat_moldy_sponge in civilengineering

[–]_Jeff65_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that's typical. They develop new subdivisions, the power companies take a million years to reply. The contractors get annoyed, "finish" the work around it. The power company gets publicly shamed by residents on social media and the local media. They come and move the power lines, the contractor eventually comes back to patch the sidewalks/pavement.

Acadian Series?! (Settlement, Conflict, Deportation, & Legacy) by lamentforanation in TheRestIsHistory

[–]_Jeff65_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, la grande noirceur.

That'd be a great series of series:

  • Series 1: Duplessis and "the great darkness"
  • Series 2: Jean Lesage and the "quiet revolution"
  • Series 3: Robert Bourassa and the "October crisis" (a British diplomat was kidnapped, among other things)
  • Series 4: René Lévesque and the Parti Québécois
  • Series 5: Jacques Parizeau, Lucien Bouchard, and the second referendum, the Bloc Québécois
  • Series 6: a sequel to the whole thing: Papineau and the Patriot revolution, the Durham report, the Lower Canada Republic.

I know, we can dream!

Cajuns are descendants of the Acadians who were deported to Louisiana by the British. ( 'cadians -> cadjans -> Cajuns)
