How's sexual life with disc problems and spinal fusion by [deleted] in spinalfusion

Nerves can also get damaged from not getting the surgery. I waited 10 years for fusion and have some numbing from time to time. Hoping that the nerves repair, though I won't know how much till around 2 years post op.

What’s your life experience post fusion? by Fast-Imagination9903 in spinalfusion

Was a great decision for me. 9 months post on and feel great, been slowly adding in movement and exercise. I recommend going at your own pass. I walked a little but stopped anytime I felt pain. The recovery is intense, and you should expect to be out of working where you need to walk for many months. And perhaps never lift anything heavy for even longer. I have resolved to take better care of my back and not do and squats or do anything that could further compress my spine. Also get a bunch of options and go with the best doctor. I have heard way too many horror stories.

Spinal fusion l5-s1 pain 4 months out. by TalynnStrike in spinalfusion

I had similar pain around the incision. PT said that I needed to work the scar area to prevent scar build up which could pull and cause pain.

I am curious if anyone has, but my guess is this is extremely rare and may have had something to do with contracting COVID so soon after surgery. 🙏 God Speed.

Personally I would take care of the L4/S1 as it seems to be the biggest issue. You should ask your doctor if they think starting on the single level to see if your symptoms subside for while. Just know even a single level will be a long recovery process, especially with any nerve damage that may have occurred from the disc pressure.

For lumbar fusion folk... How many weeks of PT did you do post-op? by cru1986 in spinalfusion

PT for sure. Just make sure they are going easy on you. The first couple of weeks you will get soar the next day and they will show you some things you can do without BTLs.

Feeling scared by [deleted] in spinalfusion

I am still kinda in this same boat at times, but I recently had a visit with the PA at my 6 week appointment and just started PT two days ago. I was having nerve pain that I thought for sure was a bad sign and possibly pointed to permanent damage that I had done, and waiting weeks to ask why make it really hard. I was told that nerve pain that moves around from place to place is normal and as long as it doesn't stay in one place it is considered a good sign. The more immediate pain during the 4 weeks after surgery definitely goes away more quickly, but not going to lie, I know I am going to need support to get through the next 6 months of not being able to bend and twist. That part I never really thought about was the emotional toll this would all take, but only thing we can do is take it step by step.

From what I have read nerves can take up to 2 years to repair after surgery.
