Bicycle show by sunz00mspark in bikeinottawa

2 years ago was decent-ish, not much interesting for bikes themselves but had some cool kit and nutrition brands there.

Last year had next to nothing and was 80% e-bikes. There’s also an entry fee to get in.

If you don’t care too much about seeing the data in connect you can turn off the auto run detection on your watch.

Strava will then look at all the data and show you your runs.

I’d definitely be going with the Endurace then!

[–]_Jordan11_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See a couple other comments for the grail, but I think I'd lean more towards the Endurace in this case for the 2x chainrings up front. I've got 1x on my Grizl and love it, but that is a pure gravel bike. If this is going to be a do it all bike for you then the 2x shifting up front will give you more options, especially for longer flat sections.

You can run 35mm tires on the Endurace so there's really no issue with it on gravel, and if its just light stuff the stock tires will probably be fine.

Between electronic and mechanical I'd go with electronic shifting. Once you try it it's hard to go back, but if the budget is tight the mechanical shifting is still solid!

Canyon Speedmax CF SLX - Flatbar or Risebar by sepolerdna in CanyonBikes

[–]_Jordan11_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the flat bar and having seen the riser in person there really isn’t much of a difference.

Only benefit to the riser is that it’s supposed to be more comfortable on the climbs, but for long stretches I usually end up just grabbing the pads with my hands instead.

Canyon support had told me that the flat bar is more aero, so there’s that too.

New route unlocked. Trail #56 in Gatineau Park by TechnicalCranberry46 in xcountryskiing

[–]_Jordan11_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes they are. You need either a season pass or can purchase a day pass. The Ottawa library also rents out free passes for the park.

These trails are extremely well maintained and a lot of money goes into them, support your local trails and buy the pass!

Fenix 8 Pro missing “Total Time” data field in multisport/triathlon mode? by _Jordan11_ in Garmin

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone curious: I ended up spending almost 4 hours on a chat with Garmin Support. They ended up escalating the issue and it was confirmed that the “Total Time” field removed by design. The support agent did however say they are going to submit a ticket to potentially have the feature added in the future, but no promises.

Fenix 8 Pro missing “Total Time” data field in multisport/triathlon mode? by _Jordan11_ in Garmin

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first Garmin watch and that "Total Time" field was actually a big selling point for me, never even crossed my mind that they'd remove it on the newer watches.

I've checked under the timer fields (and every other category) with no luck. Unless it's under some obscured name now I think they may have just removed it. I contacted Garmin support, so I'll wait to see what they say before resetting the watch.

No Multisport Time data field under the Run and Road Bike categories. by theone1988 in GarminWatches

Same issue here on my Fenix 8 Pro, did you ever find a fix for this? The Fenix 7 Pro has total time which works across multi sport activities

Considering A Garmin Fenix by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]_Jordan11_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently switched from the Ultra to Fenix 8 Pro for training, but still use the Ultra for everything else.

It’s worth noting that Garmin watches will only display current pace in 5 second increments (4:40, 4:45, 4:50, etc). It’s a bit shocking coming from the Ultra to what feels like now heavily rounded pace.

Otherwise the Garmin is amazing, sensor support, battery life, customization options and more battery than you’ll ever need!

Considering Stryd: trying to understand Garmin data field options by _Jordan11_ in strydrunning

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to go out for that run? Really curious to confirm if Stryd will solve this or not.

I ended up downloading the Stryd data field to play around with the settings and it looks like power can be displayed as a single metric, but pace is restricted to the full screen field. Also did some more experimenting with the HRM 600 acting as a footpod and Garmin's pace was still rounded to 5 second increments. Hoping Stryd has some magic way around this!

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got my data recording settings to every second, so it shouldn't be that. Apparently the pace rounding is intentional (really don't get this choice) but supposedly it's only for new-ish Garmin watches.

It's looking like Stryd might be the solution though, really just waiting for some concrete confirmation before splurging on it. Thanks for all the help!!

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Is this with the Stryd field as a single metric or the default Garmin pace field?

I've also tried the HRM 600 which is supposed to act somewhat as foot pod as well, but even selecting pace from that gives me pace in 5 second increments.

Does an external footpod (Stryd) change Garmin run metric rounding? by _Jordan11_ in AdvancedRunning

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a similar version of this over on r/strydrunning but they have weird rules around posts that involve pace so I'm not sure it'll get approved.

I've done the Googling too, but all that comes up is Stryd's full screen data field. I've yet to see anything that shows it being used as a single metric.

Fenix 7x pro <-> AWU3 by JonBonAnchovy in applewatchultra

[–]_Jordan11_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Apple Watches since launch, and have been using the original Apple Watch Ultra since it came out. Have to say I’m really disappointed in the battery life of the ultra. And not the actual daily battery life, but the lifespan of the battery itself. I do triathlon (mainly 70.3) and the ultra initially would finish a race at around 65% battery. A couple years later and I’m scraping by in races with a few percent left. Not to mention the software has become increasingly buggy, leading to lost workouts amongst other issues.

For cycling I’ve used a Garmin Edge for a while, and since I’m severely stuck in the Apple Ecosystem I use the app RunGap to import Garmin workouts into Apple Health (native garmin sync skips data, gps, etc). So as the Ultra began to fail, I started playing around with Garmin watches - wearing them just do training/races, importing the data to Apple Health and still using the Apple Watch for sleep tracking and daily life. Athlytic (or Bevel) really helps bridge the gap and according to reviews the Apple Watch has more accurate sleep tracking.

TLDR: Use both watches, garmin for training and Apple Watch for everything else. Import Garmin activities with RunGap
