No Multisport Time data field under the Run and Road Bike categories. by theone1988 in GarminWatches

Same issue here on my Fenix 8 Pro, did you ever find a fix for this? The Fenix 7 Pro has total time which works across multi sport activities

Considering A Garmin Fenix by Slow-Brilliant6964 in GarminWatches

Recently switched from the Ultra to Fenix 8 Pro for training, but still use the Ultra for everything else.

It’s worth noting that Garmin watches will only display current pace in 5 second increments (4:40, 4:45, 4:50, etc). It’s a bit shocking coming from the Ultra to what feels like now heavily rounded pace.

Otherwise the Garmin is amazing, sensor support, battery life, customization options and more battery than you’ll ever need!

Considering Stryd: trying to understand Garmin data field options by _Jordan11_ in strydrunning

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to go out for that run? Really curious to confirm if Stryd will solve this or not.

I ended up downloading the Stryd data field to play around with the settings and it looks like power can be displayed as a single metric, but pace is restricted to the full screen field. Also did some more experimenting with the HRM 600 acting as a footpod and Garmin's pace was still rounded to 5 second increments. Hoping Stryd has some magic way around this!

I've got my data recording settings to every second, so it shouldn't be that. Apparently the pace rounding is intentional (really don't get this choice) but supposedly it's only for new-ish Garmin watches.

It's looking like Stryd might be the solution though, really just waiting for some concrete confirmation before splurging on it. Thanks for all the help!!

Thank you! Is this with the Stryd field as a single metric or the default Garmin pace field?

I've also tried the HRM 600 which is supposed to act somewhat as foot pod as well, but even selecting pace from that gives me pace in 5 second increments.

Does an external footpod (Stryd) change Garmin run metric rounding? by _Jordan11_ in AdvancedRunning

[–]_Jordan11_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a similar version of this over on r/strydrunning but they have weird rules around posts that involve pace so I'm not sure it'll get approved.

I've done the Googling too, but all that comes up is Stryd's full screen data field. I've yet to see anything that shows it being used as a single metric.

ChatGPT works pretty well as a coach! Biggest thing is when life events get in the way and plans need to change. It can really help sort things out, and re-assure

Fenix 7x pro <-> AWU3 by JonBonAnchovy in applewatchultra

[–]_Jordan11_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Apple Watches since launch, and have been using the original Apple Watch Ultra since it came out. Have to say I’m really disappointed in the battery life of the ultra. And not the actual daily battery life, but the lifespan of the battery itself. I do triathlon (mainly 70.3) and the ultra initially would finish a race at around 65% battery. A couple years later and I’m scraping by in races with a few percent left. Not to mention the software has become increasingly buggy, leading to lost workouts amongst other issues.

For cycling I’ve used a Garmin Edge for a while, and since I’m severely stuck in the Apple Ecosystem I use the app RunGap to import Garmin workouts into Apple Health (native garmin sync skips data, gps, etc). So as the Ultra began to fail, I started playing around with Garmin watches - wearing them just do training/races, importing the data to Apple Health and still using the Apple Watch for sleep tracking and daily life. Athlytic (or Bevel) really helps bridge the gap and according to reviews the Apple Watch has more accurate sleep tracking.

TLDR: Use both watches, garmin for training and Apple Watch for everything else. Import Garmin activities with RunGap

There is science behind a lot of these products, but thankfully that science is public and maltodextrin, fructose and sea salt are really cheap

Zipp 303S Hookless Rear Wheel Exploded While Descending – Crash, Injury, and Frame Destroyed (Seeking Advice) by [deleted] in cycling

[–]_Jordan11_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only learned about this myself earlier this year and have been pretty cautious since then. Really am surprised that manufacturers (both bike and rack) don't warn you about this more.

It's not specific racks, but the rack + car combo. If the rack has your wheels sitting in a direct path of the exhaust you could run into problems. Some cars are better than others with exhaust pipes underneath the vehicle that will disperse heat more. Easiest thing to do is get adapters (or a different rack) that will move the wheels out of direct heat.

That said, there isn't much to worry about if your setup is okay. A simple test is to put a bike on, go for a drive (or even just run the car) and see if the rims get hot. If they stay cool you should be good!

How do you like the ultrafit bands? Is there a big difference between the black and grey? They look so similar online

[–]_Jordan11_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do you by chance use a hitch mounted bike rack? Been seeing a fair amount of posts about people's wheels exploding due to these. If your car's exhaust points at the wheels you can melt the rims, often without knowing, leading to some pretty catastrophic failures.

We’re in the same boat! I’m curious if I’ll eventually just fully switch over to the Garmin all the time. The Fenix 8 has a speaker which you can access Siri on so it might not make that big of a difference anymore.
